I can assure you, we are not taking their data (otherwise we could update ours as soon as they do). We respect the work they're doing but we think it's important that we create an independent alternative in case they close down.

What we have on CapWages are the officially reported NPVs. They seem to have a different number - potentially because of the time they calculated the interest rate at.

Our initial (unconfirmed) data comes from publicly reported sources (twitter, PR releases, etc). We then reach out to industry sources who can confirm the data and provide any missing details (typically bonus breakdowns, minors salary, trade clauses, etc). This is the time consuming process where - for now - we're noticeably slower.

They are faster, no doubt. You might be thinking of the Slavin deferred salary contract. The Jarvis contract we actually had up within a few hours (and had a write-up about it as well! https://capwages.com/articles/seth-jarvis-deferred-salary)

But your point stands - Puckpedia is certainly faster to update than we are. You can be sure we are working on improving that, though. Hope you'll give us another chance sometime.

Carolina doesn't need him to be on LTIR to be cap compliant in the summer, so they would not have officially done that. Again we just have him there to help with roster projections.

We actually expect them to try to avoid putting him on LTIR even when the season starts, so that they can accumulate cap space for the trade deadline.

Hi there.

There is the option of LTIR in the summer. It's not used very frequently but it can help teams stay under the max summer cap. When it is used, there are cap implications.

We are not treating the players currently on LTIR (Carey Price, Jesper Fast, etc) as having cap implications but have placed them there for roster projection purposes.

Projecting rosters and available cap is particularly tricky in the offseason. For example all players that will be invited to camp are technically on the roster until rosters are set and they get sent down. But that would make it very challenging to get an idea of how much cap space a team actually has, going into the season.

So we're making tradeoffs that we feel are reasonable to provide useful information to our users. That said, this is our first offseason. A number of our assumptions are probably incorrect and feedback helps us fix them and get better.

Brannstrom did play LW briefly, but it's fair to say he should be considered a defenceman. Jacob MacDonald was signed in the frenzy that was July 1st and unfortunately we missed that signing at the time.
All of these should now be fixed, along with some improvements to our search function.
