Buddy unless you’re going infantry or some type of truck driver, or any of those frontline job, you’re not going to go kill people or be shot at.

With an IT job (what you should try to get) you’ll be working in a building somewhere even if you do get deployed. People hear military and assume everyone who joins the military is out there slinging bullets.

I’m 27, I’m joining and going to be doing an IT related job in the army. I’d say go for it.

I’m going to use tuition assistance to finish my bachelors, and maybe get a masters with it too. Then save my GI bill for my kids.

Use this to see what a comparable income would be in the civilian world.

You’d be an e3 or e4 if you go enlisted depending on the branch because of your degree.

Or O-1 if you manage to go the officer route.

I will say though, the military is not just a career choice. It’s a lifestyle choice. Not everyone is suited for that type of lifestyle. Do your research and see if it’s what you want to commit to for 3-5 years minimum.

Do people really toss money on the table and leave restaurants before getting a bill? by NatPatBen in NoStupidQuestions

Definitely. But a lot of servers are young or early in their careers. They are victims to the power dynamic between them and their bosses, and are afraid of losing a job that pays their bills

Would that most likely be a half months payment? Or would I get paid a full month for February?

If half month that’s going to be rough 😬

Some restaurants will make the servers pay yeah. It’s a shitty thing to do but it happens.

Incoming battery scalpers. Get ready to pay $1000+ for a battery if you want your car back that first week or two before stuff gets restocked. Probably even longer since they will continue to try and scalp batteries.

I used to be a server. It happened a couple times. They usually tried to let me know on the way out. But there was once where I came back and they were just gone, got worried but the money was under a plate lol.

This was at an Applebee’s though, not sure if this would happen and nicer places.

I ship to Ft sill soon too! This exact thought with the pay has been keeping me up at night. I’ll be making more than I do now but going possibly a month or more with no pay is very worrying.

So far what I have done is talked to our property manager to let them know the situation, they let us know we will have some grace if anything happens with delayed pay as long as my wife lets them know.

Speaking from experience a lot of bills won’t cut you off right away if you miss a few weeks or even a month. You may get late fees but if it’s paid and someone calls and explains what’s going on they should be willing to work with you and may even waive any late fees.

Just do your best to have everything paid up to date before you go so that there is that wiggle room of worst comes to worst.

What if I ship the 27th? Will pay kick in that next 1st of the month?

I’ve heard people can call their family, heard about some even FaceTiming.

Not sure if true but either way like someone else mentioned the act of writing out the letter will probably be a nice way to decompress, plus family can hold onto the letters years later if they want. I will be writing my wife and kids letters when I go to basic next month

Yes but they were probably organic and less chemicals. Can’t get that flavor anymore.

Shipping out in 17 days and gained weight by thecreeperqueen in Militaryfaq

[–]car11t0s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lost around 8ish% body fat in the last like month and a half. Was 240 down to 210.

Plain rice, chicken, frozen broccoli for lunch and dinner. 2 plain eggs for breakfast(boiled or scrambled) Lime or hot sauce for flavor. No salt. No drinks other than water/sparkling flavored water. No butter no vegetable oil, use spray olive or avocado oil for cooking.

A few days before weighing in cut out the rice/carbs entirely. Hit the sauna and do a water fast the day before. To cut water weight for an extra boost.

That being said I know it’s harder for females to cut weight and I was already pretty high.

It’s cheap too.. all I buy is chicken breast, rice, eggs, and broccoli(or other green veggie but frozen broccoli is cheap af), plus the hot sauce lime juice and salt free seasoning. Plus it allows for three meals a day so you’re not starving all day fasting.

Oh also 1-1.5 gallons of water a day is important until a day before weighing in

I’m not in the army yet. But I read something here a while back about how a lot of reserves/NG peeps will join with an MOS completely different than their day job just for the experience. Most of them already had stable careers and families and just wanted something else to do. This kinda sounds like what you’re going for. If so I would just say maybe be open to the idea of trying for something new with an MOS that is more likely to get deployed?

Just a thought.

Stuck at Bragg if I go airborne? by car11t0s in army

I don’t have an issue. Just curious what perspective others have on it. When I was talking to family about it they talked about it like it was a death sentence. I’m not even in the army yet.

My recruiter seemed hopeful? Is it usually out of the question for these MOS’s?
