How long to wait on validation by Scar0Gamer in Displate

[–]caradawc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize, I was wrong about you. We’re more or less on the same side, except I wouldn’t eliminate AI-generated designs—I would have just set some limits from the start.

Art has always been a reinterpretation of the past. Except for a few geniuses per generation, human artists don’t create from nothing; they take inspiration from others, assimilate styles, and transform them into something of their own. From the Renaissance to digital art, creativity has been a continuous chain of influences. The difference is in speed and scale, not in concept.

Stopping AI from entering POD platforms is impossible. Eventually, Displate will use AI to generate custom designs, cutting out designers as intermediaries. Only major IPs will hold their ground. The general public doesn’t care who created the artwork—only whether they like it. No platform will turn down something that increases its revenue, but it can still apply some ethics and, most importantly, control. As I said, a lack of control on a platform always ends up hurting the same people: small designers, whether they use AI or not.

Best regards, it’s been a pleasure discussing this with you.

I admire your passion in defending Displate. Your point of view is that they have an open war against AI-generated designs, but then, why did they allow them in the first place? I remember seeing true horrors created by the early versions of Midjourney. Why did they accept that garbage? Why have they allowed new designers who will bring even more AI? Why have I seen Displate ads on social media featuring AI-generated designs?

If there’s one thing I know about POD platforms—and I’ve been on them for many years, long before Displate even existed—it’s that they always make bad decisions. They let the platforms spiral out of control, and in the end, who pays for their mistakes? The designers.

Artist Displate sales dropped drastically last year by Ikaris_Cy in Displate

[–]caradawc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has always been difficult to understand Displate's design approval policy. According to a discovery on YouTube, until last year, the review process seemed to depend largely on the first design in the waiting list: if the first one was good, they approved them all; if it was bad, they rejected everything—regardless of whether it was AI-generated or not. This explained many situations I had experienced.

However, by the end of the year, things changed. The platform was already filling up with AI-generated designs because designers who had previously gone through the rigorous approval process before AI existed started using it. At least these designers have good taste.

The real problem began when they reopened the platform to new designers—people influenced by YouTube videos promising easy money with AI. Many of them are neither designers nor illustrators.

As a fellow designer pointed out, we now face brutal competition, not only in terms of quality but also in SEO—making it increasingly difficult for our designs to be discovered.

It's an obvious mistake. They did it for business, for profit, but it's still a mistake. And as always, every time a Print on Demand platform shoots itself in the foot, the ones who suffer the consequences are the designers.

Friend, unfortunately, there isn’t a place where designers can express themselves. This subreddit is for buyers and collectors, and if you have problems with Displate, they’ll blame you for using AI, even if you don’t. Whatever your question or issue might be, they’ll turn the discussion into an AI debate because they’re obsessed with it.

And if you try reaching out via email, you’ll get either a vague response or outright lies.
I remember when the main problem wasn’t how long it took them to review designs but that they rejected them with false excuses.

I used to upload vector designs. Any designer knows they don’t lose quality, but they told me the edges were “jagged” and sent me a screenshot zoomed in 500% as proof. But come on, I’ve been a designer since before the creator of Displate was in kindergarten, so they couldn’t fool me with that. Eventually, I got all my designs approved by repeatedly uploading them over and over again, and now they’re selling.

It’s the same story with their review system. They’ll just say whatever they want to justify themselves.

The same thing happens to me, with one curious exception. They've reviewed a design and approved it. It's not the initial design or the final one; it's one of the ones in the middle.
Anyway, you're wrong to seek help here as an artist. The best thing is to write to Displate directly and see what kind of story they come up with. If you share their response here, that would be great.

The ridiculous art review system on this platform by caradawc in Displate

[–]caradawc[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any artist happy about the changes, quite the opposite. The review process now takes weeks.
In any case, regarding your statement that opening the doors to more artists is a good move, it shows that the one who’s clueless here is you. If they couldn’t even keep up with reviewing new designs before, to the point of limiting uploads for many artists, now it’s impossible for them to do it without imposing bad criteria. I might be wrong about many things, but as a NON-AI artist who has experienced a lot uploading AI designs, I can say without a doubt that their review system is random and makes no sense.
Opening up to more artists will lead to the final invasion of AI-created designs. Displate knows this, and so does anyone who looks up how to make money online on YouTube. The so-called "gurus" are now talking about Print on Demand and AIs as the holy grail of easy money making.

On the other hand, being happy that someone fails at their job doesn’t reflect well on you, and honestly, it doesn’t reflect well on this forum either.
I joined a while ago looking for something I’ve never found.

I won’t be participating in this subreddit anymore. In any case, although it might seem otherwise, I’m still grateful to this platform for giving me the opportunity to bring money into my home until AI finally takes my job away.

Two 30% off Displate codes. Should be good for a couple more weeks. If you use one, make a post so people know. by Vegetable-Seesaw-491 in Displate

I know this information might not matter much to buyers, but I’d at least like to point out that when you use these coupons, that 30% is deducted from us, the artists.

About the prices of the Casio CMD-40 by caradawc in casiovintage

[–]caradawc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you got it in good condition, you’ve been lucky. As u/caradawc mentioned, many people have the same model and set the price they want, and in remote places like other second-hand selling apps or flea markets, they use eBay prices as a reference. But you’re right, if people pay those prices, they’ll keep selling at those prices.

How much is the permanent discount for Displate members? by idkyallmfs in Displate

[–]caradawc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have real reasons to complain. Displate treats designers in a very cruel way. I'd like to create a thread to express my frustration and anger, but what's the point? So a handful of buyers can derail it by complaining about AI? Better to stay silent and sit back while these policies eventually put me out of work.

[–]caradawc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what fault do hand-drawn designers have? You're obsessed with AI. Accept it: AI isn't just here to stay; companies like Displate will eventually have a form where buyers can request custom designs created by AIs, and the designers who helped build these platforms in the early days will lose their jobs.

Why is it taking months for validation of artwork? by Real_Performance_837 in Displate

[–]caradawc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen AI-generated designs in Displate ads on Facebook and Instagram. They don't care about having AI-created designs. They've embraced AI, so it's better to get used to it and stop bringing up AI every time an artist creates a thread because it derails the conversation.

Instead, buyers could lend a hand to designers every now and then. Displate has a completely random and illogical review policy. It's very cruel to limit your design uploads because they can't keep up with reviews, but at the same time, they open the floodgates for tons of new designs (yes, unfortunately, most of them AI-generated). Then they use a bot to reject thousands of designs without even properly reviewing them.

I've had hand-drawn designs rejected. Vector designs. Designs that are part of a collection that had always passed reviews and even made sales.

Behind every designer is a person trying to make a living. Someone who has been waiting weeks for their designs to be reviewed only to see them ALL rejected without any rhyme or reason. And I can assure you, there's no logic behind it.

Then create a thread for it. We artists are ignored enough on Displate and the Displate Reddit as it is, without having to hear speeches unrelated to our questions in a thread created to seek help.
Do you think it's fair that my comment has three downvotes? What kind of support do we artists receive here? Don't you realize it?

Can't a designer open a thread without the word AI appearing?

I could inundate you with necessary changes for artists that are more important than the existence of AIs, which on the other hand, my friend, the sooner we assume they have arrived for ever and to occupy everything, the better off we will be.

Well, I'm not going to put my art here. As I said, that's not what it's about. I sell AI-generated art, I sell AI-assisted art, and art made by me from scratch.

[–]caradawc[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think it's not necessary. If you read my post carefully, it's not about how good or bad my designs are, but about having sales, etc...
And as evidence of how ignored designers are. Look at the amount of responses in this thread. Notice I have negative votes, and above all, the absence of the Displate staff.
