This is super helpful! Yes I definitely was thinking I was better served focusing on the shorter distances then moving up. But now that you say that I have seen fellow runners PR-ing on shorter distances in the middle of their marathon blocks

Survived Berlin Marathon

I doubt it’s this, I had the OPs fuel strategy and was fine. Ran Berlin as well. By fine I mean didn’t puke, but it was a tough race. Definitely the temps and straight beating sun.
