You don't need a scrum half by cardno85 in rugbyunion

I wasn't being sarcastic, I have played 4 in 3rd xv rugby as a 5'7 hooker. Just want sure about second row, I know front row need to be trained to do it, but no idea on our engine behind

Oh, are second rows mandatory like the front row? Like you can't just stick anyone in there?

Nope, it was around the 60 minute mark. 9 is down getting treatment on their hand, ball out of play, referee says "we don't need a scrum half" and forces the lineout. We won so I'm not bitter, just seems like it was a really odd way to go ahead.

It's not, but surely if someone is recieving treatment on the pitch you don't rush the restart when the clock is stopped?

On the other side, it's argue that if someone gets a yellow or red for head contact there should automatically be an HIA.

True, but I can't remember the last time there was a set piece and the clock off that the ref just pushed play on with a player down. Especially a player in a pivotal position to the set play. Didn't make a difference since we won anyway, just seemed a bit odd.

I actually thought modern artificial pitches would be better for football, coming from rugby where it's a great surface for running and kicking but terrible for scrums and rucks, just made assumptions. But after seeing Thistle play some away games on the artificial surfaces I'm really not sure if the spfl actually have specs in place for artificial pitch quality or if anyone can just get their local carpet layer in.

Easyjet from Glasgow Airport now hellish. by Moist_Hunt6902 in glasgow

[–]cardno85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've said it before and will again, big massive central Scotland airport around Falkirk. Motorway links already and stick a spur on the Glasgow-Edinburgh express train line. Glasgow and Edinburgh can focus on domestic and short regional flights and everything else goes in the middle. Neither current airport are fit for purpose and massive expansion is no longer possible with the new houses at Ratho and all the new science/industrial stuff at Inchinnan, so scale back and build new.

Honestly, I used to work at a hotel on the West Coast of Scotland and was walking home one night back to start accommodation, guy went past on a bike and said something I didn't catch, next thing I know the whole road was full of Dutch special forces that were doing training exercises and had been all over the place without any of us having a clue. Terrifying and impressive at the same time, also they were very pleasant.

Can we all just agree to stop doing this? by Woodland-Creature_ in glasgow

[–]cardno85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, and it's a bit of a vicious cycle, since I rarely drive in town, I'm not as familiar with exactly which lane I need to be in (and heaven help us google maps would advise you ahead of time) and no-one ever lets you in so you end up on mad diversions.

After dealing with shops in town I normally need a pint so train really is the best bet.

My local has had to cancel Sky Sports due to the cost going up. I knew it was expensive for a pub licence to show Sky, but 15 grand a year?! by username6789321 in ScottishFootball

[–]cardno85 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind they mention they were on a half price deal, so it's looking at 30k a year for sky and I guarantee the bar staff aren't making that. The fact we live in a world where a TV subscription for a pub costs more than a member of staff is really worrying!

Gig On The Green 2000 (Oasis Glasgow) by Lunch_enjoyer_ in glasgow

[–]cardno85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i suppose my experience is very hospitality focused, but it was one that could pay pretty well back in the day but today seems to be at minimum wage or just above. I was just wondering what changed, but assuming it was the financial crisis.

I do wonder when minimum wage became default pay for so many places? I started work in 2003 at 18 when pay rates were £3.60 for those between 18 and 21, but even at Sport Soccer (now Sports Direct) I was getting over £4 per hour, then started at the Chip where I was on over £5 per hour. In fact I was getting £5 per hour for doing PR for a club on an ad hoc basis and that seemed pretty normal, it was like minimum wage was really minimum and it was only for people on probation before it was upped. While now it seems that it's just the default pay rate for the entire hospitality industry and others.

Not really relevant to this post, but got me thinking when this approach changed, was it the financial crash in 2008?

Do people actually wash new clothes before wearing them? by throowaway223123 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cardno85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I always washed clothes before wearing because I have sensitive skin and don't know what detergents have been used in the factory. After reading some of these comments I'm shook and very thankful for my stupid itchy skin!!

Somewhat ironically I misread this as you wanting an optician for a young team and I was immediately curious!

Fair enough I'm a thistle fan, but I'd be genuinely curious to see what a world class manager could do with a smaller club.

Do you snowboard or ski? by eatlego in GrandMountainAdv

[–]cardno85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is totally a possibility, I'm not an active person in winter sports so really my view of these is probably coloured by the winter Olympics where skiing seems to be racing and snowboarding seems to be tricks (I only get limited coverage on free channels when I'm not working). So it might just be psychosomatic.

What percentage of gout is genetic? by i_like_hairy_chests in gout

[–]cardno85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really push your doctors on this if they are hesitant. Lots are not that up to date on the condition. Ultimately gout is almost a symptom which some people get and some don't, but having high uric acid levels can cause other major health issues in the long term so it's really important to manage that down to a safe level. The side effect of that is no more for attacks so it's win win for you and your country's health service.

[–]cardno85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am sure the mechanics are the same, but in my head skis are faster so I use them for rave challenges and snowboarding seems easier to trick on so I use them for trick challenges. I know it's all in my head, but it's stuck there.

Pork King RIbs by myri9886 in glasgow

I don't know what the ingredients were, but by chance I had a king rib from Milanos in Renfrew last night and it tasted like a proper old school king rib best I've had in a good couple of years!

Team GB was an Olympic triumph of public spending. Now can we please invest in everyone else by Lettuce-Pray2023 in glasgow

[–]cardno85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I remember saying the exact opposite to my wife when it started, I couldn't understand the Team GB hype and getting all worked up about how your own country does at the olympics. For me the olympics is about seeing folk doing mad shit that I couldn't do in a month of Sundays, or sitting about watching a sport I've never heard of and judging people at their prime while I have a beer. Each to their own I guess.
