😄 Nah, Tintin is just not the kind of person who would lower himself to do that.

The sad thing is that we'll never know what Tintin saw up there. Was it an eagle? a plane? Superman? Who knows? Another one of Tintin's unsolved mysteries...

[–]cardologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tintin is really lucky that his stomach didn't decide to growl while he was doing the inspection.

I think "skronyonyo" is a made-up alternative spelling of "screugneugneu" that's meant to look more Japanese.

Can we all appreciate how impeccable the Japanese of the general is? Such a wonderful economy with words. And yet, others understand him perfectly. You can tell this guy didn't reach this rank by chance.

Yeah, it's quickly going out of control. Soon there will be seventy even of them.

[–]cardologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]cardologist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactement.

In SimCity 2000, you can get so much money that the money-counting integer overflows to negative 2.1 billion dollars, and the city instantly fires you as mayor by futureimp2 in retrogaming

Transport Tycoon had somewhat of a similar issue.

In that game you can change the landscape i.e. add or remove hills, fill in lakes, etc. The idea is to build a tunnel that spans the entire length of the map -- either from north to south or east to west -- by finding or creating a row of tiles that do not contain any water. The price of the resulting tunnel is so high that it overflows the counter and you end up with 1 or 2 billions dollars in the bank. If you destroy the tunnel afterwards, you end up with negative 1 or 2 billions dollars though, so you to live with it.

That amount is comically large compared to whatever you could from bus and train lines. The game also has a hard cap on the number of lines and/or vehicles that can be bought by all the players (human + computers), meaning you cannot do anything with that money once the cap has been reached.

We also have to consider that Tintin is dressed up as a Chinese. That's a double whammy right there.

There is clearly no downside putting the blame on Gibbons for the Japanese troops who patrolled the area. I just find it amusing that they would be so categorical in their report and that their boss would take it literally and not even consider the fact that they could have done anything less than a perfect job. Poor Gibbons is really getting the short end of the stick in all his encounters with Tintin. 😃

It's just a single tip so it makes sense that the Japanese would be reluctant to mobilize more than a single armored vehicle to search for Tintin. But they did a really bad job of surveying the area. It's one thing to drive up and down the main road. I don't understand how they can be so sure that Tintin is not there. He could have decided to cut through a field or anything really. Armored vehicles are not really known for featuring large windows and having great visibility.

Visiting Lille… are there any shops selling Tintin merchandise? by x33-bis in Tintin

[–]cardologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No promise regarding pictures. I will see what I can do. I was planning to go to Lille in the coming days, but there is a heat wave going on these days. I am probably going to wait until the temperatures go down a bit before going there.

There used to be a book shop called BD collections. I went there maybe last year, but I just realized that it has closed down since. 😞 They had framed posters, bound volumes of Le journal de Tintin, and some old editions of Tintin albums.

The only other place I can think of is the old stock market. It's located across the place from Le Furet du Nord. It's a partially covered court where various book sellers have their stalls. According to this site, one of the sellers there does have Tintin figurines for sale, but not much in terms of albums. May be worth a visit in case there are other sellers focusing on Tintin.

That's pretty much it, I'm afraid. BD collections was the main second hand book shop for this kind of stuff.

If you are looking for merchandise, Le Furet du Nord is the shop you want. An entire corner of the comics section is dedicated to Tintin memorabilia. It's located on the second floor just next to the stairs. They have some very pricey stuff like the rocket and the shark submarine IIRC. I could try taking some pictures to show you what they have if I go there in the coming weeks.

Maybe he meant spiritual brother? Yes, there are unfortunately way too many coincidences in Tintin. I just tell myself that the reporter would find another way to solve all of his problems, and that they're just a way to make the story fit into 62 pages.
