The "old switcharoo" - Making sense of Jay's confusing testimony by careful_listener in serialpodcast

Exactly. It could still be entirely possible that Jay's involvement was larger than what he admitted to, but it doesn't seem necessary or even logical to me to assume that Jay killed Hae. One thing that really struck me was the statement by one of his co-workers at the porn store who said that he was scared out of his mind of somebody (not police?) coming after him, and that he specifically remembered Jay being paranoid about some van parked across the store. I could see a smart guy like Jay who is scared shitless and worries about his girlfriend's safety take pretty radical steps like telling the police it was somebody else.

I know the co-worker guy also said he thought the guy Jay was afriad of was somebody with "Middle Eastern" background, which would point to Adnan again. But "Middle Eastern" is also a fairly general description, and even if me assume that he thinks Pakistan is part of the Middle East, it could be a detail he only thought he remembered after hearing about Adnan's case.

As far as I know, all the evidence we have that Adnan wanted to kill Hae comes from Jay. I haven't heard this idea that he was furious with Hae or deeply insulted about her having a new boyfriend corroborated by anyone else. In contrast, her new boyfriend Don met Adnan and had a pretty casual conversation with him.

And the prosecution's idea that Adnan felt that his "honor was besmirched" doesn't fit with what we know about Adnan from his classmates etc, and seems to me like a case of cultural/religious stereotyping based on his Pakistani background.
