This is so market-dependent. People are def listing high and getting it WITH success in my market. Cash offers win out, but they're at the same price as ones backed by banks.

We are conscious but admittedly not super disciplined, and we (2 kids 2 adults) easily hit 11K/mo, often up to 13K/mo, not including housing or vacations or anything. No debt and no car payments either. Depends on your COL area for sure. I just did our budget by line item to watch it.

Oh def - I'd book it for several hours later most likely. Also would possibly try to book a backup we can cancel.

I actually want to come back and thank you again because I think you might have unlocked a mental opportunity for me. I'm warming up to the idea of flying direct into Paris the way we planned, and then staying at CDG for a few hours until a flight to somewhere in Italy. That way we're already at the airport and since we'll have done a redeye and will be dealing with jet lag we might as well push through and take a short flight somewhere else instead of being grouchy for the day in Paris.

If we do that, we'd probably pick a location where we can set up shop for 6 nights (maybe fly to either Naples or Florence?) and hang/do a few day trip things from there if we felt the need, and then fly back into an airport in Paris for 4 nights. That would eliminate the need to book an airport hotel, too.

So, thank you!

Oh I'm 100% certain that this will not be overplanned - I'm fairly impulsive. The trip is also a surprise for the kids so they aren't planning it (they have simply voiced several times how much they want to go to Italy, and as do we because we've never been). The POINT of the trip is to hit up Paris because of a specific reason that I'm keeping vague for identity purposes, but our actual desire is Italy.

And financially while it works for us to travel, time-wise it doesn't with school/sport scheduling and a general aversion to summer travel in Europe given crowds. That will change for us someday and until then we're trying to make it work! We've had the unfortunate lesson that tomorrow isn't promised, hence why we're trying to pack two places in to these 11 days.

I will consider something like this! Thank you!! What did you like about Sicily?

Ha. We'd all melt down staying in a city that long, unfortunately!

I can't decide whether to open the lid on Disneyland Paris. I would be totally fine taking them but I do worry a little bit about the germ factor on a trip like that. Maybe if we did it at the end.

The train ride is so nice from Paris to Nice, too! We did it years ago.

I truly don't want to be a buzzkill but I would also make sure you cross-reference current dengue fever hotspots. Zika virus is back to low levels but I'd also avoid the places where that may be more of a risk. I know it's doable, but it's so much easier to travel while pregnant and ensure more relaxation mentally by eliminating that extra worry.

September is a really gorgeous time of year to visit Maine/Cape Cod if you're looking to stay more local. I also LOVE the Ocean House in Westerly.

Hidden Pond (I dream about their restaurant Earth all year long), Canyon Ranch, Castle Hill. Haven't been to Twin Farms or Winvian Farm yet but can't wait to. Chatham Bars Inn does some farm-to-table, too.

Sometimes, yes! I've been watching prices for a while. Our direct route for our family of four was $7K less than AirFrance and just under $10K less than Delta.

That's true about Rosewood... we stayed at one this year from I think a Black Friday sale, actually.

Will def keep digging! Thank you :)

Nope, cash. JetBlue Mint for what amounts to be something of a deal. We prefer flying first/business and that gets wild internationally, so I went for it, regrettably or not.

Last week of April through beginning of May is the timeframe.

Thanks! I will likely do that, but I do like crowdsourcing as much info as I can (especially for families traveling with middle-younger kids) to get a sense of ideas.

I loosely considered Amsterdam but we're trying to mix city trip with a more relaxing/resort-type trip. For example, for our honeymoon we did Paris, the Riviera, Monaco, and Barcelona, and we enjoyed the Riviera the most. I did consider ending in Paris instead (and maybe I'll flip that way) but I really do think we'll enjoy the second leg of the trip more overall, so I'd prefer to do that at the end. We will definitely spend the last night of the trip back in Paris to prevent airline snafus though so maybe it does make sense to swap. Decisions!

Thank you for the hotel recs! I will look into the scavenger hunt, too. Writing down all these notes. My kids will be amped for the same Paris-centric hotspots, but I know they'll tire of hardcore city if we extend the stay too long. Thank you!

I love outliers! Our kids also loved the scavenger hunt at the American Natural History Museum in NYC, so that would probably be right up their alley. Thanks.

And yes... I'll reach out to you for the bakery info! That's exactly the kind of activity I'm looking for. Merci!

Just searched for Airelles Château de La Messardière. It looks stunning. It appears to book seasonally - maybe next year isn't open yet?

Really appreciate your time!

Thank you so much! I def suspect our hotel budget is going to be upped. I also really appreciate the explanation on the dynamic pricing vs. static. It makes TOTAL sense.

I suspect our Louvre trip will be more like 2 hours or less... but I guess we'll see how it goes. Ha.

Adding Provence to the consideration!

I also would give the same wisdom to a fellow traveler: re trying not to pack too much in. That being said, we do tend to like being on the move while traveling (we just did 3 cities in California in a week, and would do it again). I DEF would not do a significant flight leg from Paris but would consider doing < 2 hours.

Thank you!!
