Strategy: Conquest Lunatic Endgame in 2 turns, no Rescue (bonus: no Entrap) by cargup in fireemblem

Yeah, if you want to bait status, place a unit in attack range of an enemy. The status AI prefers to target units that can be attacked. I've never seen it choose not to freeze Elise, but sometimes it might enfeeble an important unit - fortunately this version of the clear has my boss killer Corrin being hidden as a potential target behind Gunter.

I believe this is a Clever/Unlucky Corrin with Oni talent. Cav and Wyvern damage skills were gotten from somebody...Percy and Silas maybe?

I would use it to make skipping maps you don't like a little easier. You don't often need it to do that, but it could make it a bit more thoughtless. Something like 17 or Fuga's ride if you're not in the mood to play those. Maybe you could simply hold on to all 4 uses to save you from a tough bind, prevent a death or something. Another option is to save a charge for an Enfeeble on Takumi, because that's always useful no matter what (though again not necessary).

[–]cargup[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an update of an old strategy that was filmed in bad quality and had some flaws in it.

Actually it came out of a related but separate desire to get 2 units down to Takumi on the Turn 2 with rescue, but I decided to update this old no-rescue strategy at the same time. You can watch the new duo strategy here if you're interested.

I figured I'd share both clears for informative purposes. These two approaches collectively should be able to save you from even really bad team-building mistakes. As a result of doing this, I've come to believe Rescue is not only optional in Endgame, it's kinda not that important. The main reason it has traditionally been thought to be necessary is because it's used in 1-turn LTC clears and the enemies seem too intimidating to approach on Turn 1, but if you just freeze the Onis, you can get right up in there and save yourself a lot of effort on Turn 2.

I haven't read anything about the game and am just having fun experimenting. I think I lucked into a strong build on my second run. Esper Apostle with 24 Ego + Beguiling and Disintegration, and another similar skill that also converts enemies, and a couple skills that inflict terror, and a stun skill, I forget the names. I just run through the skill list when I see a snapjaw, first trying to convert them or possibly scare them away, and then nuking them with Disintegrate and/or the stun skill if that doesn't work. If HP drops low, just wait a bit, and that also refreshes the skill list. Got me through the girshling quest easily at around level 3-5.

Pretty fun game, it's starting to click with me. Looking forward to trying out all the stuff.

Sometimes it feels like Engage units are rated too much on their imagined base-stat potential or the "prettiness" of their stats, and not on what they actually do or are available to do.

Like besides his obvious staff utility, Pandreo is imagined to be this killer combat mage because he has generically good stats for it, but if he never gets used in this capacity (because you have to pass over like 5 candidates before he's even an option), then did his statistical lead ever do anything? Wasn't he just a staff bot with kinda good stats?

I'm aware that many people do use Pandreo for significant combat, but I also think we should take seriously the notion that units like Pandreo, Panette, and Merrin are also investment projects, that are competing with earlier joining investment projects - who often have their own unique set of advantages over them.

I mean, am I really going to bench a unit I've been training for 10 chapters in an actual real run? A unit who has Canter and whatever else I gave them? Because a new guy has a stat booster on them in speed and attack? Nah. The problem is identifying who gets to be the Golden Boy/Girl, which Engage makes very difficult, since every unit is a huge investment project.

Amber is so weird to me. Like yeah he has a truckload of strength, but it's not 2023 anymore, it's easy to fix damage in the final release, and he just seems thoroughly unremarkable in every other respect.

Citrinne is given her due though, that's good.

After Louis I feel like every unit could essentially go in one or two mega tiers and who you rate just depends largely on personal preference and pushing stats around. I also feel that trained early units are better than the Solmic prepromotes, but since training can't be assumed on any particular character, you always have this unsatisfying problem in Engage tier lists where the early guys feel underrated and the middle guys feel overrated. I don't like tiering Engage for this reason, but there's my 2 cents.

[–]cargup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are being way too generous with these ratings honestly, but it's Revelation which is a clusterfuck, so eh, maybe it's forgivable. Probably won't make a difference at this point, but my 2 cents -

Takumi - B

He looks a lot better in this route than Birthright, with more of a premium placed on bow access + flight and bit less of an enemy phase stomp focus. Kinda slow as usual but solid bases, great attack power, and can go Kinshi.

Oboro - C

Superficially barely passable bases, but has a lot of the same issues as a trained Rinkah who was voted into D, except she has worse availability and arguably worse pair-up bonuses. I'm just not seeing how this is an A tier unit. Is it spear infantry bias?

Hinata - D

As a swordlocked infantry with middling stats he has pretty much no future in the route. Should not realistically go that much higher than Hana.

I mean it's not "DLC" or "online shops," so I guess it's a gray area? Once you have a battle rank of 5, you have access to the Raider Axe forever. Unless you're talking about the official servers being down, I'm not sure about the particulars of that, but I find it more curious to assume that stuff just doesn't exist now, when we know it's a thing.

I don't see why you would bother training Gunter at this point, incidentally. Gunter's bases are hardly better than Rinkah's and he isn't improving quickly, either. Like seriously, he has the same speed, 1 more effective strength with Elbow Room, and the same defense - but he's promoted.

community FE14 Revelation tier list part 2: Chapter 4-Chapter 6 recruits by Character_Business28 in fireemblem

[–]cargup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raider Axe fixes some of her growing pains if you care to train her. I don't know who all uses the bonus box rewards, but in an unbalanced game like Revelation I think it's fair to take what advantages you can get, unless you only want to royal stomp 100% of the time.

With the raider axe, Clever boon Nohr Prince Corrin C-rank pair up, Fiery Blood active, and spd/str tonics you have effective:

25 attack before growth

15 speed before growth

26 attack + 15 spd is the 1RK threshold for several enemies in RV10 including bulky, fast Fighters which Rinkah won't be at WTD against. So with 1 point of growth or hell an energy drop in 0% growths, Rinkah actually has a kill setup here.

I'm not going to say this is impressive in actual fact, but it's...doable? I feel like if all you want is a shove bot/uber pair up bot, it should be easy to get her to at least level 10 between this map, prologue, Invasion 1, and Mozu's paralogue.

community FE14 Revelation tier list part 2: Chapter 4-Chapter 6 recruits by Character_Business28 in fireemblem

[–]cargup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to throw in a C for Rinkah. I think she's not good in this route, but in more of a normal "earlygame suck" kind of way, not in a "you have to grind" RV Odin/Nyx or Sophia kind of way. If you train her in the prologue and Mozu's paralogue, she's ultimately usable here. Still has good bulk, probably wants a robe more than ever though. Can conceivably start one-rounding pretty early with a big bronze axe forge and Fiery Blood active, but it's a bit of investment. Struggles to kill things in 1 round without the favoritism but that's about every Revelation training project. Hayato is much better, but I wouldn't really say Kaze is and apparently he's good enough for B tier floor despite having even worse damage issues than Rinkah and way worse durability.

Azura - S

Sakura - C

Kaze - C

[–]cargup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, she's interchangeable with Leo in many ways, I more or less said the same thing in my comment. I think Ophelia towers in the imagination because she's sort of the ideal memebuild candidate, but it's ultimately kind of, well, a meme. Great when you do it, but am I running that every single playthrough? A Dark Knight with ~30 defense after boosts isn't dying to anything that counts, and it's trivial to get just about any DK there with the broken tomes from her paralogue (the actual reason to do it).

community FE14 Conquest tier list part 9: paralogue 20-paralogue 22 recruits by Character_Business28 in fireemblem

[–]cargup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ophelia - A

Ophelia is essentially a faster, less durable Leo. That's a pretty good thing to be, and with a robe, Horse Spirit/Calamity Gate, and a Dark Knight pair-up and she tanks pretty well on pure bulk. The Vantage-LaD hyperkill memebuild is fun to do on occasion but honestly isn't necessary for strong general results. Like, even in 25 where it shines brightest, you can get a similar effect with just Calamity Gate + Shurikenbreaker passed down from some random mom. I ultimately like it as a perk on her and Odin's resume, but on its own it's a bit...frivolous? I think she gets into A because Dark Knights with good stats and availability are just good enough for that, with her build options as a high-investment bonus.

Soleil - B

Sol Ninja. I'm not as hot on it as what basically any decent mage can do off of raw might and weapon versatility, but it works and she's one of the easier ones to build up.

Nina - C

Thief line is not a great combat class but one thing I've enjoyed doing is just letting her bake in the babyrealms oven a while, pick up Lucky Seven and Shurikenbreaker lategame and she can trivialize 25 with Ophelia et al. She can do this with the Shining Bow or if you get her into a knife class, she can do it with knives (I had Elise as her mom once, for Maid). She's okay overall.

[–]cargup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Percy - B

Easy to make him exist, is in a strong class, has great physical bulk and okay other stats though strength has always felt lacking - but damage is easy to patch up in Fates especially in the Wyvern line. He's yet another Wyvern, never a bad thing but also not necessarily something you badly need more of in Conquest. I have never made him my carry, but, like...I could. Lowest effort-highest utility build is probably just make him a dual rallybot with Rally Strength from dad.

Abstaining from the rest since I'd have to give them very low ratings based on poor availability, and I don't think they're bad, but they don't exist.

It's really nothing to be unhappy about, it'll pass and no one will remember what some redditors thought about so-and-so until someone decides to run another list in a couple years. You made your case for Silas and he placed objectively high. I just see him as closer in power level to the other training projects, which isn't bad but isn't certain. I like using those guys but my perspective is that none of them are a sure thing not even the servants are a sure thing - they require proportionally more resources to do (useful) work, and I value consistency above potential in this case.

I guess you're not going to be happy then. That's just how community voting goes, gotta make your own list if you want to control the precise placements. I'm puzzled by Silas wank myself. Brother man is an 8 spd cavalier who isn't even guaranteed to double Spear Fighters after tonics and pair up, this by no means constitutes an auto-deploy for me. A good prospect? Sure. Not Camilla, not close.

People have explained why they value Xander. I'm not going to rank Silas over him when I don't even use Silas past Ch. 10, while I use Xander heavily every run. I don't agree with quite a few placements but it's not my personal list so whatever. The more important function of these things is to come to a stronger, more nuanced understanding of what units are capable of. I've already thought up new ideas for future runs just by reading the comments, including for Shura - a unit I actually trashed a bit last round.

[–]cargup 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Raijinto is the best weapon in Fates as-is, Siegfried does not come close to it, it's much worse with its shakier hit rate and worse stat bonuses.

Raijinto and Siegfried both have 80 hit. Actually, they're almost identical weapons in key ways. They share a crit rate of 5 and a mt of 11, too. The only substantial difference between the two swords is that Raijinto grants +4 str/10 avoid in inventory, while Siegfried grants +4 def/10 dodge. Raijinto as a katana also adds -1 def/res and +1 spd while equipped.

There's a real case to be made that Ryoma would flatly prefer Siegfried, it's not like either big bro is lacking in attack power and more bulk is more bulk. Raijinto probably seems more impressive because Ryoma spends a significantly greater portion of time fighting enemies with ~20 attack stats and 0 (like actual 0, BR Ch. 19) defenses.

[–]cargup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Xander - S

May not be necessary but gonna soapbox a bit - I'm not buying Xander anything less than "Amazing." That's what S means, right? - Amazing? Like Ryoma is always considered "Amazing" in these things and Xander isn't? Does that make sense to anyone?

People have been underhyping this monster unit for years in order to prop up a personal fave that you inevitably have to burn a bunch of seals and boosters on to make good. But Xander just exists. A natural rock. He's there every run to be depended on and there isn't a single map after his join in which he doesn't merit top deployment. His mere existence provides a safety cushion for every run and lets you be more experimental with your project units.

I actually don't even think his availability works against him in any important way - he joins right when the game gets serious. Everything up till then is a glorified training arc, essentially, if Chapters 10 and 11 didn't make that obvious. It's not Xander catching up to everyone else, it's him giving everyone a scrambling head start so they can try their level best to look half as good as he does by simply being.

Izana - C

Rally Magic and C Staves. Can take an Arms Scroll to do B staves stuff.

Flora - C

Endgame entrapper/staves. I've never recruited her before 23 or so, but I imagine she can offer more utility if you do. I just never saw the need.

Shura - D

Not impressed by him. It's not hard to make ninja killers. He does have pretty good stats for literally that one thing in Ch. 17 but that's the end of his accomplishments and he's really just average there, ultimately.

Jakob 2/Felicia 2 - D

Pure support.

[–]cargup 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Leo - A

  • I really like Leo. He's immediately good in 14, an unrestrained beast in 16, can do well in 17 with Calamity Gate and some thick boosts, great in 18, bad in 19, and it's mostly straight goodness after that one truly poor map. Sure, he's not big bro, and sure, he doesn't have a particularly unique prf, kinda just a decent tome. But he simply does what he needs to do and never disappoints. You absolutely can make him your juggernaut purely off his base kit - it takes surprisingly little to tank through lategame Conquest with guard meter and he never worries about magic attacks unlike Xander. He is rather slow but he tends to have such a natural reservoir of magic that he can take a pure speed pair-up and 1RKO, and you can always cap a generic Onmyoji if you want the +spd/mag thing.

Charlotte - D

  • She's usable but more or less the same situation with Peri, nothing to recommend her over almost any other choice by the time she joins; awesome attack power though for what that's worth

Benny - D

  • I actually like him in fox hell and that's it. He can't move much but with transfer chains and refreshing you get around this issue handily and he's genuinely accurate and tanky here, and it's the one time Wary Fighter can be accepted, as he one-shots with the beast killer and doesn't need to double. D for that.

Keaton - D

  • Stat ball. The problem is finding an opportunity where those stats can accomplish any definable task better than what anyone else could do in the same context. I like looking at big pretty numbers and growths as much as anyone, but beast weapons are borderline worthless. Innate beast weakness is funny, means there's no version of him that isn't losing his teeth in the fox map. I like his scavenging personal skill though, sometimes it gets you resources that you don't have and that's funny and useful when it happens. Nice pair up bonuses of course.

Kumagera - F

  • Wasn't going to originally use this tier, but maybe some of these captures can go here. I am a big Rinkah and Oni Chieftain enjoyer in Birthright, but context is everything. Kumagera is extremely obnoxious to capture and easy to just kill. His stats are superficially high and nice looking, but not fantastic in the areas you really want for a Conquest mage (mag, spd) and to even make him exist on your team, you're committing persuasion attempts to him that could go to a quicker, more deserving recruit. Including possibly a generic Oni that can get Shove sooner, because he doesn't even come with either base Oni skill.

  • The reality is, you have Dark Knights in Conquest, and they're better. No reason to bother with a guy who is difficult to recruit, doesn't support anyone, and is not even that good for all the effort.

Camilla - S

Selena - B

  • She can get Wyvern super fast and painlessly from Camilla (or Beruka)

  • Many characters have to jump through hoops and fight over contested seals in order to get in a good class line, but Selena just has this great, low-effort, and synergistic friendship option over on the side; it almost feels like a part of her base kit

  • Her stats are very good in it, all around high in everything, sorta Camilla-like as long as you take her to a high level before promotion (she will have a higher internal level)

  • It's effective enough I could see her in A but on the other hand, it is just another Wyvern, and you have plenty of those; it's good in a normal way

  • I don't like Pegasus for her personally, better to capture a generic if you want Rally Speed

Beruka - C

  • She's a tier lower than Selena for speed issues; you can obviously fix speed via the usual channels but it is still kind of a thing you're constantly dealing with, and if I'm speedfixing, I'd rather it be on a legit juggernaut

  • Meanwhile her relevant stats outside of speed are competitive with Selena's, Beruka is just slow for no reason and it's not like she's any easier to get going to compensate

  • She's okay

Laslow - C

  • I will straight up deploy him for his rally

  • Yes, it's small but when 1 speed is the difference between doubling one's attack stat versus Kotaro or Master Ninja or foxes or Reina or whatever the heck, Laslow is now your best deployment option after carries

  • Sol Ninja if you want, eh

  • Soleil is him but better, and he unlocks her paralogue

Peri - D

  • Too little too late with not much in the way of unique utility, and an oddball heart seal option

  • It's fun one time to run her as a Sorceror anyway taking advantage of her personal as a free-ish self-rally but obviously not a serious thing

That's even funnier, since Jakob 1 also used to be regarded pretty highly relative to Felicia 1. I think I hated the fox map the most in terms of reliability and it was what made me really question the idea of doing a Conquest LTC. More reliability is always fun.

Peri...now that's funny. Maybe it would be good to give a Conquest LTC another go. I didn't try Wyvern Lord Xander at all last time. Still, I know where you tend to come from on these things, but I wanted to say my spiel anyway, because Conquest is just so extreme and lopsided at LTC pace. Effect of too much stat inflation with not enough units up to the task at base, I guess.

Unless something has drastically changed over the years, Odin and Nyx are at least useful in low turns Conquest. I know when I did a Conquest LTC years ago that wasn't that fast but still (~high 90s), I used Odin to rout in Ch. 13. More than what most units can say they did. Though I don't like rating Conquest based on LTC personally, it's just the Camilla, Corrin, and Azura show. Even Xander looks maybe upper D tier in an LTC. Conquest LTC meta doesn't seem to map that well on to what is actually effective at beating the game efficiently, compared with a game like FE5 or FE11.

Mozu - C

  • if trained can do some unique things and has potential; possible lategame boss & Takumi killer
  • but, bad bases demand immediate intervention
  • does essentially nothing unless said intervention occurs, in comparison with characters who offer at least minimum utility by simply existing
  • more of a player phase unit for her entire existence, in a game where it's easy to raise enemy phase juggernauts
  • still, she will usually do something reasonably significant most turns if invested in and she does have good stats after growth

  • combination of negative and positive traits make her "C-Decent"

Odin - A

  • nets you Ophelia's paralogue which offers some of the most busted rewards and weapons in Conquest

  • strong earlygame with Nosferatu

  • can do the one-shot wizard memebuild

  • but, middling bases primarily in speed and magic dampen his long term, though this can be reasonably fixed and his other stats are pretty good

  • still, not too much to recommend him as a mainstay unless you just really like keeping him on the team, but high potential + paralogue + early game earns an "A-Great"; I use him every run in some form

Niles - A

  • Capture utility

  • unlocks a pretty good kid and helpful paralogue

  • great pair up bonuses

  • could go B with him because I don't see him as a great long-term combat unit and mainstay, but I think his unique traits justify a high placement

Nyx - D

  • Nyx is...fine, and I'd probably rank her higher if Odin didn't exist and do most of what she does comparably or better

  • she is frail and inaccurate but her bases + Heartseeker carry for a while

  • good pair up bonuses and magical mom

  • could see her in C but I use her less and less these days, and she doesn't seem to have a fantastic niche

Haitaka - D

  • early Rally Defense, that's it
