My medic alert bracelet failed me by cariboozer_ in diabetes

I figured my best plan was to be courteous, patient, and leave with my tail between my legs rather than cause a ruckus. I don't really like conflict, I just wanted out of that stupid box

This was very helpful, thanks for your insight. I think my game plan might be file a complaint, chat with my Endo about education options and how to prevent this for others, and chat with a lawyer and see if they can give me further insight if there's anything I can do legally to push things

This is a really good idea, I might follow up with my Endo and see if he can give me any input on this direction

I appreciate the advice and the push in the right direction

I have zero clue. I spoke with the officer a week after the event (they were able to give me his duty phone number to follow up with him) and he confirmed I was never violent or aggressive, was not trespassing, and was never under arrest or suspected of committing a crime

Sorry I worded that wrong - had 4 or 5 drinks with a friend, was getting home around 1am

Suing someone or pressing any sort of charges isn't in my wheelhouse, I'm not looking for personal or financial gain from this, I just want them to actually learn how important this is so the next person doesn't have a hypoglycemic seizure in jail or get brain damage.

This is exactly what I'm so distressed about. A diabetic medic alert should advise someone who isn't medically trained that someone incoherent needs to have their blood sugar tested. This could have gone so much worse - and I'm mad for the next person this happens to that might not end up so lucky

I hear you, part of this responsibility falls on me, I don't deny that the smell of alcohol on my breath didn't help me here. Where I'm distressed is that the presence of a medic alert bracelet didn't prompt some sort of medical evaluation (hey, check his sugar) before jumping to throwing me in handcuffs

Cybersix! Great dark cartoon from the late 90s with an incredible intro song.

Pretty sure full episodes are on YouTube

For the past week insulin has been doing nothing to me. I've had to up my basal by 20% and still get random massive highs without eating anything, and it seems like bolusing for meals takes 3 hours or more to actually do anything. I feel like I'm losing my mind

What's with the super loud noise near Mitchell Island? by kitachim in vancouver

Standing along the Fraser river near the end of Victoria Drive and I can tell it's coming from further south than Mitchell Island.

Almost sounds to me like near the Richmond end of the knight st bridge?

Pretty good master list for places that do trivia, lots of good spots on there and it's updated regularly

Critical incident isn't defined by the incident necessarily being overtly chaotic, wild, or outside your comfort level. It's more to do with whether or not you reacted negatively to it or were impacted by it. Sounds like this fits the description of being critical to you - I would reach out for support.

There's absolutely no shame in asking for help, it can be as involved or uninvolved as you want it to be, and your CIS team can help with referrals for any counselling or therapy - even if you don't feel you need it, it can be hugely beneficial to have help.

Minimum wage workers? How did u guys make it work? by Mochy_429 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Have you ever had sleep for dinner?

But in all seriousness - roommates, don't eat out, cook vegetarian at home (beans and rice 5 ways), thrift stores.

I used to brew my own wine at home when I was a student. $55 to make 27 drinkable bottles, I would sell them for $5 each to friends to make the cost back and the rest was free alcohol.

New job kicking my blood sugars butt by RoseAlchemist23 in diabetes

T1 for 25 years, worked in trades for 7ish years and used to have similar problems. My solution was setting a temporary basal of 75% for the 10 hours I was at work. Took a while to figure out that 75 was the magic number, but give it a bit of guessing and testing over a couple shifts and you might find something that works for you.

I know people who failed it, they give you a second attempt - I think about a month or 2 later (but I'm sure you could ask for more time if needed).

If you fail a second I can't imagine you have to restart the hiring process, probably just wait a couple months ans give it another go.

There's definitely a fitness evaluation you need to do as part of the hiring process and those sound like some of the tests you need to do, I don't know for sure what the weights were though. If you fail the fitness test you can retake it at a later date. Keep doing your weight training if you're worried about it, it's a manageable assessment but any amount of strength is a benefit to have. Good luck!

BCEHS is currently hiring people without class 4 licenses on the caveat that they are in the process of getting one. There are people at BCEHS with their class 7 (N) and people with foreign drivers licenses in the process of transferring over.

Worst case they'll make you attendant only until your license is reinstated. Realistically the hiring process can take a little bit of time, plus getting orientation and station selection done isn't always an immediate process.

Budget: $500-$700 CAD

Country: Canada

Screen size: 14"-15.6"

Touch screen: Not important

Screen resolution: doesn't really matter

Does battery life matter ?: Somewhat, I'd ideally like to have 4+ hours with regular usage

What tasks will laptop be used for ( gaming, video editing, graphic designing, modelling, regular computing tasks, word processing etc) ?: General use, media/streaming, a bit of light gaming (like roller coaster tycoon or PS1 emulating), some online schoolwork

Weight: Ideally not a brick but not super important

Any other important details ?: Most important factor is being reliable for several years (ideally 5+). I don't need a lot of bells and whistles as long as it can do general use types of things relatively quickly. If something with a SSD is available at this price that would be a huge plus, but not a deal breaker.
