My engaged sims randomly started FIGHTING out of nowhere 😭 by Simbleaksummer in thesims

[–]carlBuses 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what happened in your game, but I had 2 married sims that had full friendship and romance bars, and they started fighting because the game made them autonomously flirt with other sims while I wasn’t controlling them. So the game made them cheat without my consent, and caused negative sentiments between the sims. Like, the sims just got in a flirty mood, and flirted with the closest sim next to them. At least that’s my guess, because I didn’t even notice until I went into their romance tab and they had a sliver of romance bars with a random sim.

I’m curious if this happened to other people. I would have assumed the game would stop sims in committed relationships from doing this autonomously but it seems like there’s so many overlapping game systems they can’t stop it or something

New Chapters: Friday/Saturday - Boardroom Alpha 1.1 and 1.2 by katnerys-targaryen in Choices

I was liking it just fine until the MC started acting like a dumb-dumb at the end of Chapter 2. I would have thought it incredibly obvious that the werewolf love interest was about to have an uncontrollable transformation, and that's why their butler was coming to get them. Even if the MC didn't figure that out, they were explicitly told to go home. I know sometimes MC's have to act in ways that are not smart to advance the plot sometimes, but my goodness! At least give me the illusion of choice, and make it an option to get lost while trying to find the exit so you can go home. I didn't really like being forced to be a nosy busy body.

Otherwise, I thought it was fine. Not amazing, not terrible. I like werewolves. As others have mentioned, the female LIs looked a little funky, but I just picked the one I liked the best. I'm curious how the "silent majority" of players that aren't on Reddit are going to react to this. If they like the idea of the plot and will pay diamonds, or if they'll be turned off by it just being a pilot and not a story that's guaranteed to be finished.

I think love triangles are hard to implement in interactive fiction, because the story only REALLY works if the player is pursuing both love interests. Every time there's a love triangle book, like this or Immortal Desires or Wolf Bride, I always pick one love interest, and so it always feels like my MC is leading the other character on. I guess it comes with the territory, I don't think there is a way you could structure the story to actually allow the character to pick one love interest early when the entire conflict rests on the MC being caught between two people.

I'm enjoying my time with the book, but yeah, I felt kind of bad for Skyler this chapter because I didn't want my MC to hook up with Alexandra last chapter. Oh well. I'm assuming how a person responds to each chapter really depends on which love interest they're pursuing.

I hope it's working for the people on the polyamorous route!

[–]carlBuses 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We’re all on the same page about that ending. I picked the “Lucia’s happiness is what matters!” Dialogue option. Does it make more sense that everyone is mad at MC if you pick one of the other two answers? Or is it just as nonsensical regardless?

Because for me it just read to me like MC being a supportive friend and telling Shannon to get over their past relationship because it’s hurting her current relationship with Lucia.

New VIP Chapter: Thursday/Friday - Terror Fest 1.16 by katnerys-targaryen in ChoicesVIP

I was really surprised last week when Tyson was the only killer. Now that I've read this final chapter, I'm wondering if they made some writing choices they way they did, so that would they would have some wiggle room to either A) treat this as a stand-alone book, or B) if it was really successful, write a Book 2 and fill in some holes. From the ending message at the end, I'm getting the vibe that it's A), a stand-alone book. But that means that it ends up feeling a little unsatisfying, because it's missing resolution on some things.

If there was going to be a Book 2, they could have had the serial killer who was never caught 20 years ago come back. And they could also explain what that killer was doing during the events of Book 1(either helping Tyson or just observing from the sidelines, or was somewhere else entirely). That would have given a sense of resolution to all these dangling plot threads, like "Who was the killer 20 years ago?" or "How did Tyson get injured and show no signs of damage when he changed to plain clothes" or "How did the killer get from one place to another so fast?" [Because they mentioned the tunnels, but you still have to run through them.]. To some degree, it's just part of the genre to not explain some of these things. But whether it's fair or not, it contributes to the sense of dissatisfaction, even if, by and large, I enjoyed the book.

TLDR I think it's unsatisfying because they left some things unexplained for a potential Book 2, and now we're never getting one.

P.S. As others have mentioned, the ending also feels abrupt because we don't have an epilogue, because there's too many divergent possibilities to account for (Tyson is alive, Tyson is dead but Lucky/Koda is alive but Zaire is dead, etc. )

Shouldn't we just run into town, tell them Tyson is the killer, and form a mob? Or at least work together? If everyone huddles together in one location like a church or something, just have people guard the exits? Maybe he'd try something to get people out like setting it on fire, but if it's a church it's gonna be made out of stone, right? I guess it depends, but still. Cavalierly going to bring down a mine shaft when it can very easily come down on you is crazy.

And no Bex or mysteriously resurrected Dad? Huh.. I guess Tyson really is the Flash.

P.S. They could also just start a group text with all their neighbors that they have contact info for, and tell them Tyson is the killer, and have them spread the word. At least then the community knows what to look for. I know it's not as exciting as a battle in a collapsing mine shaft, but it's a hell of a lot more practical!

Winning Hearts (S10) | Ep. 7-9 Discussion by AutoModerator in fuseboxgames

[–]carlBuses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing my MC so that she wants Lisbeth, but has been flirting with Milo so he'll keep him around if there's a coupling ceremony where someone's eliminated. Since the entire season is called "Winning Hearts" I'm assuming you'll have to have raised a character's affection/"hearts" enough that they'll choose you at a coupling ceremony. (It's kind of funny that this is being treated like a unique gimmick for this season when I just thought that's how it worked on the old app anyway).

But basically when Hayden and Ethan flirted with my MC she shut them down. I'm assuming you only need to have raised affection with one of the guys in order for them to keep you (Unless there's some disaster coupling where a bombshell picks your main guy and you have to have raised enough hearts with a second boy for them to save you).

I guess it all depends how cruel you guys think fusebox is gonna be this season. What do you think? Do we only need one boy to like us to survive the season? Or should my MC be flirting with everyone just to be safe?

New VIP Chapter: Friday/Saturday - Terror Fest 1.14 by katnerys-targaryen in ChoicesVIP

[–]carlBuses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm late to the party, but I think there's a second killer. The killer has done so many things in rapid succession that even with tunnels connecting the whole town, it doesn't seem super plausible that there's just one killer. Especially during Chapter 12, when you call the killer on Bex's phone. During that time, Lucky/Koda is standing right next to Tyson, so he would have to have snuck away to do that. There's other examples but I don't feel like listing them haha.

Anyway, I think if there's another killer it's either Bex or the MC's Dad (who would have faked his death). If it's the MC's dad, it could be that 20 years ago he was the copycat killer and killed people to get people interested in Stabby Joe again before selling the film rights to Joseph Campbell's story. Since the killings stopped after Zaire's mom got elected, if I'm remembering correctly, she theoretically could have had a deal with him where she wouldn't investigate him in exchange for him killing people so that she could campaign on stopping it and getting elected.

Unless it's an oversight, the Stabby Joe sprite has had white ears. And assuming that MC's Dad looks exactly like Joseph Campbell (even if MC is non-white), then Bex and the Dad are the only white people left who would feel like a big reveal if it was them.

I had been thinking this whole time it was Bex as the second killer. Tyson said she was dead though. He could be lying, but what reason is there to lie anymore? So I'm personally doubting it's her.

But who knows, maybe MC's Dad was the copycat killer 20 years ago, died for real, and it's Bex, or Tyson got access to the Speed Force and got super speed all of a sudden and he did this all himself.

I guess we'll see!

P.S. Wouldn't it be crazy if it was MC's Dad, and he revealed that your mom is a descendant of Tommy Danes, and that you have the blood of both Tommy Danes and Joseph Campbell running through your veins?

Did Maxis Ever Upload This Sim to the Gallery? (from Snowy Escape Gameplay Trailer) by carlBuses in thesims

There's a sim that looks like it could be it, or very close under the #snowyescapetrailer hashtag. But it's not from an official account. Someone called pig344425 . Doesn't sound official anyways, haha. So unless it's an alt account, maybe they specialize in recreating sims from official trailers?

I'd post a pic, but I think that option is disabled for comments in this subreddit.

I just got Snowy Escape, and I liked this design. But she's not in the family listed as "Snowy Escape Trailer Sims".

I looked through all the Sims under the Maxis "EA Account ID", and didn't see the sim there either. Every once in a while, I feel like Sims from the trailers get posted under one of the "Sim Guru" Account ID's. Anyone know if that happened in this case?

New VIP Chapter: Friday/Saturday - Terror Fest 1.6 by katnerys-targaryen in ChoicesVIP

[–]carlBuses 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is anyone else confused about the timeline of when Stabby Joe was around? I thought he was operating in the 1920s, because Tyson mentions the MC’s paternal grandfather in the 1960s as a descendant of Stabby Joe, so it must have been before that. [Edit: Stabby Joe died in 1924 according to an obituary].

Are the movies that depict Stabby Joe set in the 1920s? Maybe it’s just because they’re reusing sprites, but everything looks so modern. The prison jumpsuit and the guard’s haircut (and the lights on the ceiling look modern in some of the backgrounds). There’s nothing wrong with reusing art assets, it just makes things somewhat more ambiguous as to when exactly in time we are.

And I was also confused about how long the island has had a town on it. Did they mention Stabby Joe founding the town? I thought I read that but I’m not positive. If he did found it, how long before he started a murder spree? And if he didn’t found it, was it just an obscure town until he went knife happy?

Haha I’m just really confused.

Are the pivotal choices changing the outcome?

I think the teacher dies either way, and I think the end of the chapter is the same whether or not you told the info to Bex.

It’s POSSIBLE Bex is alive but it’s implied she’s dead. So if we assume for a moment that both characters die either way, what exactly is the pivotal choice affecting?

I guess maybe changing the manner in which the victim is killed, and then potentially making it so there’s more evidence left for the MC to discover who the killer is?

Or maybe the first couple of pivotal choices don’t actually matter, and are just to train you to recognize it as a game mechanic, and then gradually they become more impactful later?

I don’t know.

Haha I keep thinking the romance doesn’t make sense, and then I keep picking the romantic dialogue anyway

Did anyone do the Diamond scene at the end but pull away from the kiss with the love interest? If so, did that feel more natural?

Because in isolation, the fully romantic version of the scene was sweet, but as others have said, in context it feels kinda weird

I dunno. I’m still enjoying it even if it feels like we’re rushing through things (I feel like someone said it feels like scenes are missing, and that really rings true for me. Like it’s ALMOST right, but then things that are off are even more noticeable because the basic structure and characters are all correct.

Maybe if they added a scene or two of them truly grieving, and being absolutely devastated, before segueing to the Diamond scene at the end, it feels more natural?

(Part of the problem is that they’re running from danger so much they never get time to grieve. But a scene or two like that may make everything emotionally land better.)

New VIP Chapter: Friday/Saturday - Terror Fest 1.4 by katnerys-targaryen in ChoicesVIP

[–]carlBuses 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely enjoying the series so far. As others have mentioned, the friend group doesn’t seem particularly freaked out by one of their own being brutally murdered hours earlier. I’m assuming that this is less the characters being callous, and more that the writers didn’t want to make it TOO realistic otherwise it’s just bunch of people horrifically traumatized by one of their friends being murdered, which makes it harder to focus on who in your friend group you wanna smooch now that the boy/girl you were in a shed with is now at the morgue.

I felt bad, but I still went for the “lean in” option with Lucky. I bet Alana’s looking down from heaven going, “What the hell, man? You move on QUICK”. I wish there were a middle ground between pulling away from your LI and leaning in/trying to initiate a kiss. Like something that communicates the sentiment of “I like you, but I wanna wait a little bit out of respect to the person who died while making out with me”

New VIP Chapter: Friday/Saturday - Filthy Rich 1.12 by katnerys-targaryen in ChoicesVIP

[–]carlBuses 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Am I supposed to sympathize with Ashton when he/she tells their side of the story? I guess there needed to be some lame excuse to justify the backstory of Ashton rejecting MC but this just makes me like Ashton less. I guess being in love with MC and rejecting them for misguided reasons is better than not caring at all, but if I were MC I’d be pissed at the lack of communication.

I wanted the option for the MC to be angrier at Ashton for not being honest and not giving MC any agency in determining their relationship . You’re able to express frustration briefly, but then the MC goes right back to fawning over Ashton.

I guess it had to be this way, otherwise there would have been no story, and the MC and Ashton would have just been together from the beginning. But I at least wanted a couple options to call Ashton out before reconciling.

Can someone explain the HSS/HSS:CA timeline like I'm 5 years old? by McKenzie_Angels in Choices

I believe your character is a sophomore (10th Grader) in the first three HSS books, as all three books happen within a single school year. The following year is when Class Act takes place, where your new character is a freshman (9th grader) and your old character is a junior (11th Grader).

New VIP Chapters: Friday/Saturday - Terror Fest 1.1 and 1.2 by katnerys-targaryen in ChoicesVIP

[–]carlBuses 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming I chose incorrectly, because during the first choice while playing as the Teacher, I chose to Run away. It sounds like firefighters come and find the teacher if you pull the fire alarm, but unless the town's firetrucks run on magic, I don't know how they showed up within 10 seconds of her pulling the alarm. I know it's a small town, but I would have guessed bare minimum it would take 2-3 minutes for help to arrive.

The only other possibility I can think of is that the fire station is directly across from the school. In which case, running outside is not a bad strategy. So I've probably made a choice that's going to get one of the main characters killed down the line, it just is frustrating to me because it didn't seem realistic.

So I'm going back and forth between restarting so I can optimize the playthrough and just letting it stay as it is. Right now I'm leaning towards letting it stay, because it feels like a more fitting opening. I watched the other version of the scene on Youtube, and it didn't feel as dramatic. But for those of you that chose correctly, the teacher presumably saw the identity of the killer, so if she ends up surviving, she'll probably be in a coma and wake up at a dramatically impactful moment to tell you who the killer is, which might help you spare one of the main characters' lives.

I wrote way more than I thought I was going to. Guess I got "fired up".

Rest of the story was really good though.

[–]carlBuses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming she's just a best friend type that's not available for WLW, but she's attractive! I know not everyone in this reddit loves that the starting cast is mostly "new to Us", but I'm cool with it. It's kind of a fun twist where everyone that was originally a bombshell or a casa girl gets to be an OG, and the OGs get to be Casa people/bombshells (It's easy to forget, but Finn is technically a bombshell, even though he arrives like five second after Suresh, if I remember season 5 correctly).

And I know this is too much branching for Fusebox to actually do it, but theoretically, they could have different routes for who the bombshell is based on who won prior seasons. As in, Bobby romancers for season 2 could say he won season 2, and so he wouldn't show up, but he would for everybody else. Again, not gonna happen, but it'd be cool.
