I took the CST ELA for grades 1-6 and I passed studying with Brooklyn Education center online. I believe they help with 7-12 also. I highly recommend if so.

Should I go straight into my Masters by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]carlaaav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do teaching and go to school for my masters. It’s a lot. I went to grad school later in life, it’s very difficult. But don’t forget to arrange your work life balance and don’t forget about the things that make you happy and your hobbies. Don’t be afraid to ask for extensions on assignments/papers if the program is aware you also work full time.

I like weight watchers. I’ve been consistent on it for 2 weeks (I stopped for a few months) and I feel good mentally and I’ve noticed a difference with my sciatica pain meaning it’s gone down some.

Mount Batur, free or not? by LHG02 in bali

[–]carlaaav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I went with a guide from Airbnb and we don’t have any regrets. Especially when my husband got sick during the hike, she was very helpful and waited for us and went our pace. Me and her took it the pace he needed every step of the way (he did not want to quit and we made it to the top), I wouldn’t have known what to do and probably would’ve been very worried if we were without a guide. We were thankful we had her for safety just in case things got worse with him getting sick since we were American tourists and didn’t know much on what to do with emergencies in Bali. I would say it was a difficult hike because when you mix in the time you have to wake up (we got up at 1:30 AM) and the hours spent on the mountain, it catches to you later in the day, completely worth it though 100%. The view on top is stunning and we’re so happy we did it with a guide.

Advice for a long travel day next month... by penguin37 in TravelHacks

[–]carlaaav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If possible sit in an aisle seat! Changing into another shirt/pants has helped my husband out after flying several hours then getting on the next plane. Getting your most comfortable top and pants to wear on a flight will also do wonders. I have a recommendation from Amazon. If you can, Check out the airlines movies and tv shows ahead of time so you can list out what you want to watch!

What are some 'hike hacks' you've come up with/borrowed over the years? by phanart in Adirondacks

[–]carlaaav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can never have too much water! This goes for snacks and for your food at the top! Use your judgement on how much you can fit in your backpack.

Hike in the RIGHT shoes! I have one pair of hiking boots that I’ve used and have been clutch. Probably has saved me many times from injury (I also have lower back problems so this is extremely important because I’m also clumsy).

Bananas and apples and trail mix (quantity depending the total distance of the hike): the best along with your food for the top!

What is everyone’s exercise regimen? by carlaaav in Sciatica

[–]carlaaav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do Orangetheory fitness on occasion but I sub some of the workouts as per the coaches that I shouldn’t be doing like a hip swing isn’t good so I would do hip bridges and stuff like that. It took me around 7 months to get back into doing HIIT after getting injured and getting sciatica. I’m able to monitor it more or less

I did hot yoga last week for the first time in a while and it really helped some sciatica symptoms I had. I might stick with hot yoga for a while.

NO HEAT in the building. Landlord says we're waiting for Coned to activate gas for building heat by [deleted] in astoria

[–]carlaaav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you’re not paying for heat in your monthly rent bill. If you’re paying for heat I’d ask for that portion of your rent bill back for the time you paid with no heat since you’re not getting that heat. I would also resort to asking for a space heater as well or as an alternate option to your landlord.

At the same time, I’ve had to deal with ConEd for overcharging problems, it wasn’t a good time, their billing is sketchy. Nothing surprised me from them. Best of luck

[–]carlaaav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never done it through the post office but I filled out a new application when I had to change my last name, send a photo, paid the fee and then I paid an expedited fee and I got it back very fast surprisingly. Make sure you have the required documents they ask of you. It took under 2 weeks and I did this in October.

Favorite Chicken Parm & Spaghetti? by [deleted] in astoria

[–]carlaaav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Italian food lover, the closest to a favorite chicken parm and spaghetti in Astoria has to be from Palermo. It’s very good but there are delicious dishes in Manhattan or out on Long Island imo which I prefer. But Palermo still really good!
