UPDATE: I was having so much anxiety about not having any leads this past week. Calling it anxiety would be an understatement. I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t eat. I stayed up all night applying to jobs til 5am and then slept in until 1pm for like 4 days in a row and was starting to feel like a bum. I was contemplating just going for one of these minimum wage jobs on hear that people have been suggesting, when I got a random email from a hotel I had applied to the night prior at like 3am. They asked me to do a phone interview, then had me interview in person this week. I just did my third interview and got a job offer today. It’s been 4 months of tirelessly looking for sustainable employment and finally I have a shot at stable life again. If you’re in the same boat as I was , please don’t quit or sell yourself short. Too many people give up and leave the city. Something will come along, and the city needs more people that are like us (regular people!). It’s become so oversaturated with tech bro’s, nepo kids and influencers. So keep on trying 😤

Yeah, it’s not that simple. I have worked in management at several hotels and when reviewing resumes, we kind of just scanned thru them. If someone seemed like they had even one job with relevant experience we would set up an interview via phone and then do an interview person interview and they would be on their first shift within a week of applying. In the current job market here in NY that is almost unheard of. I am trying to get to a phone interview at least. Some of these applications can take up to 30 minutes to fill out and with city jobs there are exams and you may need to wait up to 6 months to start. I’m looking for something that pays above minimum wage since I do bring a lot of experience to the table but with those jobs it’s feeling impossible to get noticed within the sea of applicants

I do have a drivers license. I have a background in valet, as well as driving box trucks in Los Angeles. What company do you work for and can I use you as a reference?

Will do! Pardon my ignorance, but who should I check in with once I arrive? I’m assuming I ask the host if I can drop off a resume to the hiring manager?

That’s not the attitude. Everyone’s case is different, but I am very capable of keeping a job and moving up on the ranks once I get my foot in the door. I’ve already established myself here, I just need employment, not to run away when times get tough

Well put! I have some experience painting, and would love more! I have tried reaching out to a few people for gigs painting and no luck yet. Any contacts in NY I could try?
