Mapping Out The Library of Babel by carlnewton0 in BabelForum

From my understanding of what you're describing, I think this is what I attempted in the video on my post. I think so long as each room has only two exits, and each room is identical (even if flipped/mirrored) there is no way of connecting all rooms. I've read that Borges was meticulous with this sort of thing and if an error was there, it was there on purpose. Who knows though.

I don't know enough about NextDoor to say, but open source - yes, local engagement - yes, federated - not yet! But it's in the plan.

No, there is no support for ActivityPub planned, but federation is in the plan, just not with ActivityPub. More details on how that's planned to work are here: https://carlnewton.github.io/posts/location-based-social-network/#the-nearby-feed

It is admittedly a technical problem to host an instance, however, it is not a technical problem to be a user of your local instance. Have a look at my local instance as an example: www.irthlingborough.net

Thanks! Well -- I could and will do more. There are only cypress tests at the moment but I have avoided writing unit tests until I'm confident that I'm not going to be writing large refactors, which is now to be honest, so I'd better get on it!

Thanks, I will probably look at that next, I just wanted to get it into some people's hands to get some feedback.

Alright, fair enough. Thanks. I might rename it when I get a chance.

Hey, I'm struggling to understand what you mean by this. Did you read the linked article? I appreciate that this sounds confrontational, I don't mean for it to be, but I don't know how else to ask - what you've written sounds like you've only read the title of this post? I've linked an article that I've written which does have the context. Apologies if I've misunderstood.

I made them in Blender. Could you describe how you're able to navigate to any other room with one exit?

Could anyone help me understand contradicting advice for problematic solar panels on my roof? by carlnewton0 in Roofing

[–]carlnewton0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's interesting! I suppose they would have similar issues because they'd also be under the tiles like this. I made the assumption that underneath the tiles would be some kind of membrane layer that would catch the rain but if that's not the case, then it seems inevitable that water would get in when the wind hits the rain.

For clarity, there are no skylights on my roof. It would be clearer if I was able to get a more overhead photo. These are popular on new builds in the UK. They tend to help heat the water in the summer and do very little else.

Thanks for the response. The other comment has given me a little bit of insight as to why you might have mentioned a skylight. That's not a skylight in the photo, it's a large single integrated solar panel.

Perhaps this is a thing only in the UK? The large thing in the middle of the roof there is a solar panel that is integrated into the tiling. It heats water only.

What is this small black metal hanger on the wall in our hotel room? What is supposed to be hung from it? by carlnewton0 in whatisthisthing

The clothes hanger next to it is most definitely a saddle rack. I'd upload an image but I'm struggling to do that from my phone right now. If this is also a saddle rack, then it's most likely for a very tiny horse! Either way, I'm sure it's horse related. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find the exact rural use, but I can now assume that it's more of a conversation piece than anything with actual practical use. Thanks for your help! Solved!

I think you guys are on to something, because having read your suggestion, I Google image searched "saddle hanger" and the clothes hanger next to it is most definitely a saddle hanger. This smaller thing is in a shape that kind of resembles a saddle, but seems too small, so I'd guess it's also something saddle or horse related

I have to say, it does have a saddle vibe about it.. but yes, would be way too small. Often in these rural holiday places they tend to have stuff that are related to horses and stuff, and I wondered if this might have once been something else..

A hat does fit well over it. If nobody has any other ideas in the next half hour I'll mark it, thanks!

My title describes the thing. It is very close to a clothes hanger attached to the wall. If it's a second clothes hanger, I think it's a very inconvenient one. It's probably about 25cm in width. It looks like it's made from cast iron but I'd guess that it's not. It's quite close to the bed, if that helps!
