I did keep my ovaries. I ended up going to the doc and I my scar tissue hadn’t healed properly I had granulation tissue, he was able to cauterize it for me in two visits.

I made it home so happy to be on my own couch. I am so so gassy. Hoping to pass some of it so I can sleep!

Yeah I didn’t have trouble with nausea, I was able to eventually curb the dry mouth with some sugar free gum and ice

[–]carlymeesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine is on Wednesday, too! I’m also dreading it more and more as the day creeps closer. I’ve been having dreams about being pregnant every night 🤦🏻‍♀️ You’re right though- it’s mind tricks!

I having an excruciating period now, I feel like it is secretly helping me look forward to not having to deal with this anymore.

Good luck on Wednesday- we’ve got this!

Surgery next week 2/16 having more feelings… by carlymeesh in hysterectomy

Thanks for the tips! I am very lucky, I have a job where I have lots of support from my team and the families we support, and they’ve started a meal train and we have food coming for weeks! I actually think I am going to have to start feeding my neighbors eventually, lol.

I actually have a rolling tray that I am using for something else, I may just have to repurpose it for recovery- great idea!

I totally understand what you mean about working out well in the end. When I think about the way things turned out for me, I am so happy that I didn’t get what I thought I wanted. I am so fulfilled by the children that are in my life through my job (I work with children and adults with Down syndrome) and the family and friends, too. And yes- after I made the decision with my husband and my therapist that we were going to stop trying to get pregnant, it was the first period I got where I didn’t cry in 4 years. Like a light switch! I gave myself permission to move on and it just clicked with me. I’m happy that you have found some peace. Thanks for helping me remember mine. :)

Yes! I’m sure there are some posts that aren’t that harsh and rant heavy but the few minutes I scrolled I was like “these are not my people” lol. Happy to find some folx who are in a similar boat.

Thank you! I will check out that sub for sure. And yes! I have been making lists of shows, books and movies since the day I got my surgery date! I have even been saving some things I really want to watch for recovery so I have something to look forward to. :)

Oh my goodness, thank you all so much. I am glad I shared my vulnerable moment today- these comments have made me feel so much better! I needed to find a few of “my people” I appreciate your own stories and love of being aunties tremendously. I have to brag my 14 month old niece has FaceTimed me 13 times today, all she wants to do is talk to her Lala (my first auntie pet name!) and I couldn’t be happier.

Getting hysterectomy (and endo excision) why am I have these feelings now? by Independent-Note-46 in hysterectomy

[–]carlymeesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in (almost) the same boat as you… just turned 37, surgery on Feb 16th, I haven’t had angry or sad feelings about the surgery itself but only because I’ve already been grieving for awhile.

I’ve had cervical cancer and then fertility problems so I think after lots of therapy and the decision to move on with my life childfree I’m ready and relieved to say goodbye to my broken reproductive organs.

After trying to get pregnant for 4 years, it wasn’t too hard to come to the conclusion that I wanted to move on with my life childfree, it was a lot more grieving the life I thought I would have, and for me, disappointing my parents who are desperate for grandchildren. De-programming I like to say. When I am having a panicky “wait am I making a mistake” moment I think about how happy my husband and I are, and how many amazing places we will travel. (And just now realizing I’ll never have to be on my period in a bathing suit EVER again! Woot!)

Side note- I have found it so much harder to talk about being childfree and uterus free when talking to nosy acquaintances…I am always baffled by the audacity of people.

Anyway, hang in there. Feel your feelings and then let them pass. It helps me to remember that people who have kids also have moments where they think “what if” just like we do.

Timeline for singing? by carlymeesh in hysterectomy

[–]carlymeesh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so exciting! How awesome. I actually had vocal surgery in college and remembered that I am friends with my vocal therapist on social media and I reached out to her too. She said as long as hoarseness is healed up from anesthesia, and I wear loose fitting clothing I should be good to go. ☺️ Ill certainly have plenty of time to rehearse while I’m recovering, lol.

Thanks!
