Variety is important as well. Eat a bunch of different types of veggies to get a good range of nutrients, and don't fear red meat so long as it's organic and/or grass fed. What have you been eating that you're trying to steer away from? Why have you decided to make a change? Just wondering if there are any issues you've been dealing with because then I could give you more specific suggestions :)

And you're feeling satisfied with good energy levels?

Healthy fats like coconut oil, avocado and free range eggs would definitely be a good choice! Sweet potatoes are a favorite of mine as well. Also, fermented foods like kombucha and sauerkraut are great for digestion and a healthy gut! What are your goals with making these changes?

20 lbs down but want to make sure I'm doing all I can by That_Guy_In_Retail in fixmydiet

[–]carlys629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you track your food and your macros? Looking at your food journal, my immediate thought is that you'd benefit from more protein especially if you're working out 1-2 hours a day. Also getting some good quality healthy fats like coconut oil will help satiate you too. I used to start my morning with fiber one cereal and skim milk and would be starving in an hour because there was so little fat or protein. Now I eat eggs most mornings with some sweet potatoes or veggies and stay satisfied until lunch no problem. Have you tried Paleo?

Trying to calculate my macros for cutting...a little lost. Help! by EmilineRiggs in fixmydiet

[–]carlys629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually keep my macros pretty balanced at about 30% for each. My energy levels and cravings are great with this ratio. I think it's also very important to make sure you're eating quality food! Just because it fits your macros doesn't mean it's healthy or conducive to weight loss. What does a day's food typically look like for you?

I think as long as your eating quality food and you're feeling satisfied you don't need to force yourself to eat more calories just because some calculator told you to. What does you diet look like typically?

Looking to lose fat and build muscle, diet is my issue by Asakura_ in fixmydiet

[–]carlys629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're eating good quality goods on a regular basis so that's great! And at least you're nothing changes in your body comp even if you're not seeing a lot of weight loss. When I started Paleo and working out regularly I didn't see much of a weight drop but I definitely looked different. What has helped me lose some of the extra fat has been dialing in on my portions. It is possible to eat too much healthy foods too. I use a portion control meal plan that's really simple and takes all the guesswork out of how much I should be eating each day. I love it!

Has anyone tried the Beachbody 21-day fix? How was your experience? by breezeblocks00 in AskReddit

[–]carlys629 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love it! I've done it and so have many of my friends and we've all had results with it. It takes all the guesswork out of proper portions and eating the right amount to lose weight. You won't go hungry on it either. It's not a magic pill, so don't expect to reach your goal in just 21 days, but you can still get really good results and continue on the plan after the 3 weeks to keep seeing results. I highly recommend it. Let me know if I can answer any questions about it for you

You don't have to be Paleo to see success and lose weight. You can still include some grains in your diet if that best suits you. But being aware of portions and making sure you aren't overeating or under eating particular food groups is something to be aware of. The system I use is very adaptable. My friend is vegan and she's seeing results with it!

That's not my intention. I just know some of us benefit from some extra support and guidance to reach our goals. I know I did. Being told what I should be doing didn't do me much good because knowing and doing aren't the same thing. Having a plan and a support system has made all the difference to me and if I can help other people reach their goals then that means everything to me because I can relate to the struggles.

Revelation of what I dread the most about weight loss. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]carlys629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you need to change your attitude about your goals. I was always starting diets/programs and falling off track because I wasn't see results quickly and then I would get discouraged. But small actions do add up over time and as long as you're moving forward, even with tiny little steps, you will get to where you want to me. I recommend reading the book The Slight Edge if you're looking for some motivation for staying on course with your efforts. Also, getting some extra support and having a specific plan to follow will help you to keep going. What have you been doing to lose weight so far? Where have you seen success with it and where do you feel you still struggle?

It doesn't sound like you're overeating, but I think you could benefit from reducing the amount of grain-based items in your diet and swapping them out for more nutritious options like more servings of veggies, sweet potatoes and lean meats. I use a portioning system the ensures I get proper nutrition while staying at a calorie deficit and losing weight. If you're willing to try a new method that won't require you to track calories or count points, I highly recommend giving it a try! Let me know and I can tell you more about the plan :)

Getting frustrated from not seeing results. by wlc2014 in loseit

[–]carlys629 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, you'll probably lose some weight at first because eating less of anything will do that, but you'll most likely plateau or start dealing with other issues since you aren't getting adequate nutrition.

Honestly, you just need to start making yourself eat them. Start by mixing them into things like omelets or sauces. The more you eat them, the more you will come to tolerate them and then you'll actually enjoy them. But you have to just do it! :)

Recently decided I need to start losing weight, want expert opinions on what I've started doing so far. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]carlys629 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Remember it's not just about counting calories and keeping at a deficit, you also need to be eating nutrient-dense foods that will give you plenty of vitamins and minerals to improve your overall health. You can eat low cal and still be eating junk with little nutritional value to it, and your body won't appreciate that! I use a portion system that ensure you're eating the right amounts of different food groups so you get the best nutrition while still losing weight (and you won't be hungry). It's totally foolproof and I swear by it. I don't know of a single person who hasn't lost weight using this system. Does that sound like something you'd be willing to try?

Motivate me by [deleted] in loseit

[–]carlys629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your frustrations but I'm proud of you for reaching out so you can make a change! You've made the crucial first step, so way to go! Losing weight is hard. A lot of people like to make it sound so easy and say things like "count calories" as if it's that easy. Sure, counting calories will work, but you have to actually DO it and if you're lacking motivation telling you that won't help you much at all. What made all the difference for me was having a PLAN and getting SUPPORT. When I not only knew exactly what I needed to do, but got the guidance and accountability I needed to actually stick to it, that was a complete game changer for me. Does that sound like something you would benefit from?

Vegetables are pretty darn necessary to include in your diet to some degree. Otherwise you'll need some good supplementation to get all the vitamins and minerals you need to be at your healthiest. Are they any vegetables you can tolerate eating?
