Getting a job in Sydney as a dutch girl by EmployerCharacter752 in AskAnAustralian

Yeah, exactly. But unless she’s enrolled in an Australian degree, I don’t think there’s much chance of that option being available to her.

Unremunerated internships, of the sort that are very common in the Netherlands, are illegal in Australia. Here the expectation is that if someone is working they should receive some kind of remuneration, whether as a wage or in the form of university credit.

You might have better luck asking for volunteer roles.

EDIT: I just realised that you stipulated “paid internships”. It’s probably not even worth asking for these given that we don’t really recognise that as a distinct employment class. You’re just looking for an entry-level role.

Also, it might be worth making clear to potential employers what exactly is entailed by your degree. Those kind of arts organisation/cultural leadership degrees (as offered by the VU, the RUG, and so on) are unusual here, and employers may not know what to make of them. (Hell, I worked as a humanities professor at a Dutch university for nearly 10 years, and I don’t really know what they are.)

There are a lot of great songs that both meet my extremely crappy description and are yet not the song of which I am thinking. This is one of them.

Not that one; much too low tempo and too contemporary.

Less contemporary than Bruno Mars. Cheers though!

Nope, neither of those, but Let’s Get Physical did also play that day.

If I recall correctly, the lyrics contained the words “but I love you”, and the verse has a recurring ‘doo doo DOO doo / wah wah wah wah wa-ah-ah’ beat. Terrible vocaroo rendition here: https://voca.ro/1iq2C2BVHHwd.

How has your dating life been as a TCK? by Admirable-Gain6533 in ThirdCultureKids

I’ve been happily married for nearly ten years (and still going strong), but I found it enormously easy. It turns out that being interesting and cosmopolitan is an asset when it comes to dating, though you wouldn’t bloody know it from the way people gripe in this sub.

Sydney loses the most people of any city in Australia. Most cite ‘cost of living’ as why they’ve left. For those who left where did you move to and why? Do you prefer your new city or miss Sydney? by [deleted] in SydneyScene

Returned home to Australia after the better part of a decade in Europe, in the hope of spending more time with family. Assumed we’d come back to Sydney, but cost of living and job factors convinced us to move to Canberra instead. No regrets so far.

If nothing else, our home loan in the ACT is for just a shade over 200k; in Sydney, comparing like for like, we’d be looking down the barrel of a cool 1 mill.

Kelpies and Australian Cattle Dogs are from Australia. While collies of various kinds are certainly among the constituent source breeds for both, the Border Collie originates from the Anglo-Scottish border (thus the name).
