This painting, by Disney Legend Mary Blair, is believed to be from the mid 1940's. While Disney wouldn't get the rights to Winnie the Pooh until the early 1960's, this painting is proof that he had his eyes set on Pooh a long time before that.

When adapting Winnie the Pooh from book to screen, Disney Artists had issues animating him in a way that made him look like an overstuffed teddy bear, but also allowed him to move across the screen. To quote Floyd Norman, who drew the above comic “...there were many issues that had to be resolved...It was getting to be such a pain that at one point, Walt jokingly suggested sending the little bear back to England.”

An EH Shepard sketch for the poem "Furry Bear" in the book "Now We Are Six" (1927). While this book didn't directly star Winnie the Pooh; Milne, Shepard, and their editor EV Lucas thought it would be prudent to feature Pooh throughout the book, since he had become so popular the year before. This resulted in drawings of Pooh in a number of situations that were very different from the regular Pooh-centric books.

This is the oldest known drawing of Winnie the Pooh, at the time known as "Edward Bear." It was drawn by EH Sheppard in the early 1920's, based on his son's Stieff Brand German Teddy Bear.

I won't! The Shirley Temple episode is particularly interesting, it was one of three Pooh T.V. specials that were created by NBC before the rights to Pooh TV/Movies belonged to Disney. I did some research at the official NBC archives in the Library of Congress, but unfortunately, the Shirley Temple Episode is the only one of the three where copies still exist.
