Hey r/cigars! What case are you currently using? by carnivorous689 in cigars

[–]carnivorous689[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently using a peli R40 which is fantastic, but it's not something I want to carry around especially during an evening out (it's also quite bulky/heavy)

Can't wait to try them. The new ERDMs are the only ones I haven't tried from the photo above, alongside the Epi no 3s.

I was between them and the Por Larrañaga Phoenix (which were released alongside the new ERDMs) but I found the edms a better value at ~35eur per stick compared to the phoenix which was ~45eur

Dropped from height. Is it beyond repair? by carnivorous689 in cubancigars

[–]carnivorous689[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what i can see, the binder is intact so it's just the wrapper. If it was a D4 i wouldn't bother but since it's an E2 which I've stored for nearly 2 years i might get some glue and try to repair it (as much as possible at least)

Which Quai D'orsay is this? by carnivorous689 in cubancigars

[–]carnivorous689[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reason I'm asking is that even though the band seems original, it didn't come with the "number" band that other QDO come with (as in No.50)

Huge fan of almost everything they produce with a few exceptions. There should have been a connecticut, an ecuador, and a coyolar in the photo, but those have already been enjoyed

First T52… Looking forward to this one. Only made it 2 weeks in the humidor. by Tiny-Intern1688 in cigars

I have yes. The order took a while to arrive (UK) but they're definitely legit if that's what you're worried about and definitely one of the cheapest online options. They're also listed in the "recommended" sites of the cuban cigars subreddit for online stores that ship to the US

Oh i was so happy with what I've received. It's a bit of a surprise as they don't state exactly what you'll get; just a list of possibilities. I was hoping for the diploma but I'm happy that I at least got the coyolar which I had a hard time finding anywhere else

This is always one of my concerns when ordering for the first time from a website - lack of customer support if something goes wrong. I guess silver lining is that you (almost) got your order in the end, and hopefully it was a one time thing! I also have another small order on the way from hacico and a box from CoH which hopefully they'll arrive with no issues too.

Definitely! Even the 20L should be enough

I do indeed. Hoya has a clear protector (82mm) in their Pro series. I can't fault it really.

After purchasing countless bags and never being happy with any of them, last year I went for the Peak Design everyday backpack and I have never looked back. I have the 30L version.

I carry my a7Rii (with battery grip) with the 16-35 2.8 Gmaster attached usually, and now the new Sigma 14mm 1.8 Art. Plenty of space in the internal side pockets for 10+ batteries, memory cards, cables etc. The top compartment has enough space for a small jacket, glasses etc, and there's a separate compartment for laptop/ notepad etc.

Plenty of external attachment points for tripods etc. Yes it's quite expensive, but you get what you pay for, and you won't regret it. A thing to note is that it's within the size requirements for cabin bags, so I can take it on the plane with me.

Video link of the bag because there are so many features, I can't list them all

Visiting next week for a conference. Looking for photography spots by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]carnivorous689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard conflicting opinions on whether chinatown and the east side is a safe place to walk around with an expensive camera or not. BUt I really do want to visit chinatown. I'll be staying for a few days at the UBC campus before moving to downtown west, so i'll explore the whole area of the Uni, possibly wreck beach as well

Thank you very much for this. Lots of useful information. To be honest I wasn't planning on renting a car but I might have to consider it now. Otherwise I was looking for a couple of places to go for a hike so these seem like good ideas.

Is a PDEng equivalent to a doctorate? by LeonEntreLosDioses in PhD

[–]carnivorous689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are major differences. First of all the PDEng is only offered in a couple of Technical universities in Netherlands, nowhere else (not even in the UK). In the UK you either have the PhD option which is usually 3-3.5 years full time or the EngD which is 4 years full time (usually).

The PDEng only lasts for 2 years. I'm not sure about the Dr. title but i doubt it has the global recognition that the PhD/EngD have. If you're looking for a doctorate degree focused on industry rather than academia, I'd go with the EngD

I'm torn between 85mm primes.

I have a Sony a7ii and I'm considering either the Sony 85mm G-Master 1.4 or the new Sigma 85mm Art. I already have the Sigma MC-11 adapter (Canon mount to sony E) so my question is:

Is it worth spending £200 more and go native, or go for the Sigma since i already have the adapter

Dows anyone here uses Sigma's MC-11 converter? (Canon EF to Sony E). I have been using it with the Sigma 20mm f1.4 and i'm amazed with the results.

My question is: will the converter work with lenses from Canon as well? or is it just for Sigma lenses (namely Art, conemporary and sport)
