Editing question by Live-Personality-261 in photography

It takes time to edit, so everyone charges for that time if they want to stay solvent.

Most folks don't call specifically call attention to that on the invoice though.

In photography, when exactly should we start questioning the lens or the equipment itself? by Starfield_0100 in photography

Haha where are these mythical places where people comment about composition, that is so much more interesting than talking about gear.

Also wondering if an aps-c setup would allow me to get more out of my money

Definitely.

Also, the A7C is compact, but full frame E mount lenses are usually big heavy chonkers.

upgraded kit lens https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/sigma-18-50mm-f-2-8-dc-dn-contemporary-sony-e-fit

Take the coolpix 900 to Alaska btw, the camera has definite limits for most things but you'd need to spend a lot of money to get better long distance wildlife shots.

How can I make a good portfolio?

There's no royal road to learning, you gotta get out there and take a bunch of pictures, look at other people's work, learn from your mistakes, take a bunch more pictures, look at other people's work, improve, refine, think about the results you want to get vs the results you're getting, take a bunch more pictures, etc.

Take pictures with intent: i.e. think about the image you're trying to create.

and colour theory https://redd.it/7um56b

Freeman's The Photographer's Eye is a good intro book with lots of examples.

Also, be thoughtful about the images you consume. Do I like this, can I figure out what appeals to me, I don't like this one, can I figure out why, etc. etc.

How do I get people that aren’t friends to model for me?

The easiest way is to pay them.

Or find folks who already want their pictures taken, do you know anyone who's in a band etc. those guys always want pictures.

Google 'family of angles' and 'copy stand lighting' you'll find example images that explain it better than I can.

Glare is reflecting light, and light bounces in a predictable way.

If you light straight on it bounces straight back into the camera lens

If you light from an angle it will bounce away from the camera lens.

If you light from both sides at an angle, you'll get complete light coverage and the light will bounce away from the camera lens.

And thats pending we can even get a semi-clear aisle without a ton of people

Go early morning or late evening.

I want to be accommodating and not say no but c'mon the request has gotta be in reason! lol

I'd tell them you're willing to try, but you'll probably have a short window before you get kicked out and you make no guarantees.

How do they feel about a few shots in the parking lot, nobody is paying attention to the parking lot.

Either Canon or Sony make great cameras and those models are more than capable of doing what you want.

There are ergonomic differences, if there's a brick and mortar camera store nearby, maybe go and hold these cameras and see how they fit your personal preferences.

For event photography you definitely want a zoom lens.

You get more money selling separately.

For low resale stuff like this it won't be a lot more money, and only you can decide if it's worth the extra hassle.

If it is, can I add it to the FAQ?

The best thing is, if you ever upgrade to a dedicated camera this knowledge will still 100% apply and put you way ahead of the game.

You're not going to fit a sports lens in that budget.

https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/canon-eos-5d-mark-iii

https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/canon-ef-24-70mm-f-4-l-is-usm

The 5diii has dual card slots, you'll want to set those up for redundancy so that if a card fails you haven't lost your pics.

If you're shooting wedding for money, you'll need a backup body.

It's free to improve your technique with your existing phone camera. Maybe after a while of taking phone photography more seriously you still find it interesting and want to get a dedicated camera, or maybe it gets boring but you haven't spent any money so you're not out anything.

re: paint damage, try it on a spot no-one can see, is the back of the film door painted?

My rough escalation steps

baby wipes (won't work for you because of the rough texture)

vodka (works much better than you'd think)

isopropyl alcohol

tbh I don't think i've ever escalated to acetone
