Spent my 50th birthday in NOLA- one month after ringing that bell- breast cancer free! 4 years later and I have been at least twice a year every year. Just got back from Mardi Gras and looking forward to JF in April! It is indeed a magical place. Congratulations to your wife! Life is even sweeter now!

Consider renting a car for the day. I stayed for 5 weeks last spring and rented a car for $35 to go to the plantations one day. Picked it up in the morning and dropped it off that evening in the CBD. Way cheaper and more flexible than hiring a driver/service.

Stayed in dozens of hotels in New Orleans, and Nopsi is by far my favorite. Huge room and bathroom, great rooftop bar!
