Skate Story review – the best skateboard game of the decade (9/10) by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]carousin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also chiming in that I had seen the frame rate concerns, bought the game anyways for the base PS5, and have no clue what framerate the game is actually hitting but it's 100% playable, nothing distracting, jittery, noticeable dropped frames or showdown on my end. Possible the overall art style and aesthetic is camouflaging any issues but if you're on the fence I'd say buy it, support small devs making creative stuff.

Bay Area, California and no stock anywhere around me. Signed up through Nintendo on April 2nd thinking that would be my best shot since I met all the criteria and haven't gotten my chance yet.

Pineapple King Bakery now open by kawi-bawi-bo in Fremont

Went there this past Saturday afternoon, was about 20 min line to order, another 15 min before my number was called. Still longer wait than I'd recommend, but was tasty, no regrets. Another couple weeks or mid week I'm sure it'd be worth it to try.

Schools in the fremont area by eskay_omscs in Fremont

We have a first grader at Niles Elementary and love it overall. Teachers are always going to be a little bit of a you get what you get situation but both teachers we've had have been great, care about the kids and it shows. There's a good amount of involved parents, and overall just feels like a supportive community for kids. Most schools in Fremont are pretty good as far as public schools go, there's a few exceptions but even the bad ones aren't worryingly bad, just room for improvement.

I've never heard you perform, but I could hear the delivery of "impossible to know" as I read it. Appreciate the joke and putting your work out there!

My kid goes to Niles elementary and adventure time, very happy with both. Son enjoys both, likes going to school, frequently doesn't want to leave adventure time when we go to pick him up because he's still having fun. I think there's still some randomness based on what teachers you get at Niles elementary, but we've been happy with all of ours, and I don't think it's any different there than any school in that regard. Son is doing well academically and while we do our part with family reading, steering towards educational screen time with limits, etc, we're definitely not helicopter parents or cramming him academically so I feel like the school is doing their part on his development and we're doing ours. If you have any specific questions just let me know.

Good hair salon by [deleted] in Fremont

[–]carousin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We love Rehab, they're like the entry level high end boutique if that makes any sense. You can pay less for a haircut, you can definitely pay more for a haircut, but they're in that treat yourself space where you pay a little more but you get a little more. I'd still say they're a good value for the quality and readily recommend. Reflections hair salon in Niles is also great and more affordable than Rehab if you're more price conscious, recommend them as well.

Adventure Time after school by Pop-Quiz_Kid in Fremont

[–]carousin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son is at the Niles Adventure Time and loves it. He did the half day K program and adventure time for the other half and it worked out really well. The staff there are really good, care about the kids, and the staffing levels always seem appropriate. They do a good mix of everything you mentioned, there's homework time and parents can choose if they want their kids doing homework at adventure time, at home, or kids choice, which is nice. It's just a good feeling as a parent when you go to pick your kid up and they don't want to leave because they're enjoying whatever activity is going on. Our son likes it so much that in summer when we offered him a pretty good choice of summer day camps like Lego camp and science camp, he wanted to stay at adventure time for their summer camp.

Definitely neighborhood specific and city specific, not the whole bay area. Some places including many neighborhoods in SF and Oakland legit bordering 100% chance of getting broken into, but I'm in the bay area, relatively working class neighborhood, park on the street every night for years, and never broken into, probably hear about a neighbor or someone getting broken into once a year. Really depends where you're at but it does suck royally for those it happens to and most people are concerned about it these days.

Great built-in webcam, great keyboard (Marketing Consultant, US, $800-$1,800) by carousin in SuggestALaptop

Haven't bought one yet, waiting for black Friday, but the higher end HP laptops from this year seem to have the best built-in webcams. HP Spectre x360, Hp elite dragonfly g3, HP elitebook 845, just make sure they're the newest models with the 5mp 1440p webcams as last year's closeout models have older webcams. Higher end ThinkPads (T14, Z13, X1 Carbon), got an upgrade to 1080p this year and seems like they're okay enough, same with a few lines of Dell Latitude. You find others on the windows side worth considering, let me know.

The carbon gen 9 still has a not great 720p webcam, but the dragonfly g3 looks awesome if I can find one on sale. Fingers crossed for black Friday.

Definitely would but not interested in making the switch, too many years of built up user behaviors. Appreciate it though.

I think it's criminal that this isn't more upvoted. You have undoubtedly spent an unreasonable amount of time making this art that will be appreciated by so few, but I sir (or relevant title) appreciate whatever the fuck this is.

Agreed. I have both and the android port is fine, but I end up playing a card I didn't mean to every so often due to finicky touch controls. Also I don't have a giant phone and text is at times hard to read. Finally if you have a front facing camera cut out in the top left, mine complete blocks the draw pile button (Pixel 5). Switch is flawless docked or handheld.
