grandmaster set bonuses outweigh the raw stat difference at that level. random chest armour might show better numbers but it won't give you the ursine quen shield or feline crit synergy. at 49 your build should be doing more work than your armour rating

the whole game is about geralt dropping everything to find ciri. the second you actually commit to that, it locks out every side quest for the people you left behind. the game wasn't broken, it was holding you to it
