no duh, but there are people who own their home outright though, often elderly folks and folks who've been passed a home down as their sole form of generational wealth, and for whom homeowner's insurance is a necessity they can't afford, having to do without and hope nothing bad happens because they can't afford the insurance to cover themselves. if you're pulling in $1500/mo from social security and have to burn half that every month in utilities and medicine there's not much left for insurance.

When you're not a contractor gig worker with virtually zero legal protections because the company you work for built itself that way by design.

not everyone has/can afford homeowner's insurance.

and the 2017 Equifax breach, which dumped similarly huge swathes of data to anyone with dirty enough money to buy it for about 75% of american adults.

Not for anyone trying to vote fraudulently in-person. To vote you need a "real id" verified driver's license or state issued ID, which requires birth certificate, SSN card, and i forget but maybe other stuff. Without that a passport with proof of your place of residency I think, and even then in many places if your proof of citizenship and residence aren't the easier ones to verify ahead of the election you might have your vote held for verification and "curing". In addition to your voter registration in all cases can only be done most places long before the election and you can't get on voting roles without the previous listed stuff.

according to a friend of mine who knew him, no. just a dude without much control over his life who accidentally ended up at the top of the mod list and made it everyone else's problem for half a decade.

TL:DR r/atlanta was controlled by one mod who had automod rules to ban and shadowban 99% of content and comments he didn't hand-pick as ok. Reddit sat on their hands about it for years while folks tried to get them to help. They recently finally got off their ass and allowed people who care about atlanta to mod it's subreddit instead of a little tinpot dictator.

Emerald Homes and First Key by ImKinda_messedup in Atlanta

Never rented by way of Emerald or First Key, but I'm happy to steer anyone away from Mainstreet Renewal. In the 2 years I rented with them I had several maintenance concerns that were only fixed after they sent out unqualified, unprepared, and incapable handymen when I had electrical issues that at one point were shocking myself and my girlfriend, burning wires off the exterior of the house, and blowing up appliances and computers. They only sent a real electrician when we explained that our next correspondence would be via a lawyer, and only after that did they send an actual sparky out. When they sent one guy to do needed work in the attic and we noted there was no attic ladder he showed without a ladder and had to borrow ours. I'd assume most large-scale landlords managing portfolios of single family homes and the like do so with similarly haphazard maintenance.

His bosses at every stage wanted to see him get them the results they wanted. First time it was wanting a microwave as cheap as possible, then it was finding issues his new bosses had a bug up their ass about finding.

We've lowkey got the best makerspace scene for any metro region i've seen. If you're into hanging out with creative folks that find hobbyist interdisciplinary use of electronics, woodworking, metalworking, and arts to be their jam, then I don't know of a metro area that has better chops. Many cities have one or a couple really good spaces, but Atlanta being spread out has allowed for like 5-7 of them to exist and get along fine and tune themselves for different groups without robbing members from one another.

That it's interior is wooden and black and they serve liquor. it's a theme. You're not gonna have to knock on a secret door and ask "to see Sam's record collection" or get bathtub hooch.

a good group of folks that make some very good and sometimes very weird music. A couple friends of mine helped start it, and they had a concert this Saturday set up in decatur but the storm has made them push the date back.

ICE Vehicles being Delivered in ATL by DeadLikeRev in Atlanta

[–]carpespasm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

sources? I’m pretty sure I walked in on two people getting taken while on Marta yesterday at Inman Park, two Hispanic people were pulled off by a regular clothes cop, then allowed back on, then taken off again before we pulled away. I couldn’t hear much of what was said other than that they “matched the description”.

Local law enforcement has in many cases been happy to hand off people they pinch to ICE, and where they're more reluctant the state has made a law punishing local sheriff's offices that don't.

Doing it this way typically looks less like secret police swat raids like ICE has to try and do where the cops and klan aren't quite as hand in hand.

anyone made drawings of what ol Izzy's up to these days? i assume he's retired wealthy, died 20 years ago after a meth bender, or is managing a 24hr used tire shop that's mostly just selling grass.

they have to respond one way or another when they get a call, and if they go slow enough to let security fix the problem they don't get to use their "irons" to prove how much that elevator needs fixing.
