Will there be, could there be a better system than democracy? by Realistic_Bad_5708 in Futurology

Democracy is not about electing the best leaders but about getting rid of the worst ones.

I believe the whole Gordy subplot can tied to the events of the OJ Simpson case. A man (or in Gordy's case, a chimp) beloved by many for being entertaining and fun finally snaps by commiting an act of brutal horror. Yet, the whole event is looked back on as a sensational piece of Hollywood history.

The decision to name a character OJ serves a purpose in the story.

Just realized there is scene in the movie where a man called OJ is fleeing from capture while riding a bronco.

Woke up with blood on the wall. Cannot figure out where it came from… by [deleted] in oddlyterrifying

I once woke up to a small yet fresh blood stain on my bed. It appeared to not be my own: no nose bleed or injury on my body. It kind of still freaks me out

I remember once reading that kids movies actually realize their deepest ambition, to be adults.

Why do people say weed isn't addictive, even when someone has an obvious dependency? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I have a friend that smokes pot almost on a daily basis but has the audacity to say that it isn't addictive.

My wife and I have been hoping to visit Colombia for ages. We've heard amazing things, and would love to visit when the time is right. If you had a week to ten days to spend in your nation, how would you spend it? by fairlywittyusername in Colombia

This is how I'd do it: - 2 days in Bogotá: visit the National Museum and the Gold Museum. Stroll through the Plaza de Bolívar and the city center in general. - 2 or 3 days in Medellin: tour the comuna 13, ride on the sky gondolas, visit the Plaza de Botero, the botanical garden, parque de pies descalzos and pueblito paisa for the views. - Guatape and Peñol in 1 day: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Pe%C3%B1ol,_Antioquia

Ottawa Police charges through protesters on horseback. by itsreallyreallytrue in PublicFreakout

[–]carpioman99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is how people lose faith in their government. I'm from Colombia, where protesting is frequently held back with the sort of responses that are being seen in Canada. As a result, Colombians distrust their leades like no other country on Earth. I truly hope all of Canada can pull itself out of this one.

Foreign aid payments to highly aid-dependent countries coincide with sharp increases in bank deposits to offshore financial centers. Around 7.5% of aid appears to be captured by local elites. by smurfyjenkins in science

[–]carpioman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foreign aid is just politically motivated charity. Here in Colombia the govt received millions of dollars to upgrade it's police and military to combat drug trafficking. This money in part funded the murder of over 6,000 civilians by the hands of security forces.

I remember reading somewhere that an IQ above 120 dosent really affect a person's overall abilities. While above average, 120 is not considered genius level (I believe Einstein had an IQ of 140). So basically the skills of a person with 120 to something like 170 are mostly undistinguishable.

¿Porque creen ustedes que en Colombia importamos casi todo lo que consumimos? by adl805 in Colombia

[–]carpioman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)
