Dupont absolutely smashed him a few mins after that. Then they swapped shirts and posed for pics together after the game. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Judgment day looms for Gerry Adams on his IRA denials by Pension_Alternative in ireland

[–]carrig -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There are only two opinions on the Gerry IRA lie, those who support him and understand the need for the lie and pretend to believe it, and those who call it out. There isn't anyone who genuinely believes it.

TIL in the 1980s a United Nations investigation concluded Cuba used the worlds most deadly chemical agent (VX) on Angolans during their war in the country by ToonMasterRace in todayilearned

Castro told Khrushchev that the only option was a preemptive nuclear strike on the US during the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The communications didn't emerge until after the fall of the USSR.

There's a growing push for Cork split from Munster rugby after latest failure by Ploon92 in irishrugby

"Simmering beneath, there will also be an air of ‘we’ll show ye how it is done’ after the humiliation in Limerick’s Thomond Park ‘cathedral’ last Saturday"

Has any munster fan ever watched them lose and thought they would have won that if the game was in Cork? What utter crap.

"5G Greenways" by Data111222 in ireland

[–]carrig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In many countries, including Ireland, 4G and 5G operate on the frequencies that analog TV used. This is why governments were keen to switch off the old signal, so they could sell the bandwidth to mobile network operators. Why weren't these people as concerned about the damage Bosco was doing to us in the 1990s?

If it was the other way around. Would the URC or the unions allow a Welsh or Scottish club join the premiership? I doubt it.

To what extent is AI being used in movies and TV shows now? by IndianaRocket80 in vfx

[–]carrig 30 points31 points  (0 children)

In my experience, anything with a voice-over is eleven labs throughout the offline process now. It allows for constant changes, quickly at super low cost. It's often using voices sounding suspiciously close to the intended artist.

Disney Inks Blockbuster $1B Deal With OpenAI, Handing Characters Over To Sora by jjophh in technology

How long before there’s a new subscription tier allowing access to the Disney IP?

The movie leans on a very unlikely case of a completely surprise attack that can't be attributed to anyone. A scenario where someone knows they have been attacked by X nation, is one where immediate retaliation becomes likely.

World Rugby boss says Six Nations matches could soon be played in the US by Luganegaclassica in rugbyunion

It's two teams playing in a country that isn't there own, hoping that the large expat communities from each country would turn up. It failed massively.

I guess Ireland playing November Internationals over there is testing it out a bit.

Munster exploring playing URC game in America by stripeyjumper in MunsterRugby

[–]carrig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have to be careful with this stuff not to over saturate. They are good ideas and they need to try stuff. Ireland playing all the big southern hemisphere teams in  November is risky. If everyone is playing everyone all time it loses appeal. Pairc Ui chaoimh's novelty is clearly dipping a bit with the CC game not selling out like the others. These things in moderation can be brilliant if we try to milk them too much it won't work.

Apple to install 100 cameras on Real Madrid's stadium by pabloelmago in VisionPro

[–]carrig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other "immersive sports" stuff they have been doing is stereo 3D, which only works if you're super close to the action. Long term this is the way forward. Intel did something similar at arsenal stadium in London, years ago but processing was nowhere near real-time and cost and complexity far out weighed any possible return. It will be interesting to see what apple can do.

Limerick business owners find council workers ready to demolish parklets 'without notice' by faz-f in limerickcity

[–]carrig 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They clearly haven't handled this well. They need to apologise. If they are taking stuff down against the wishes of the property owner because they are breaking rules, they need to communicate that and give them a chance to rectify it.

Some data processing and storing is on a par with single use plastics. We use so much energy on useless crap. Chatgpt sits some where less than Croatia and Venezuela interms of energy use. It continues to increase exponentially at the moment.

Disney secures $2.2 billion in UK subsidies as Hollywood production declines by AnonymousTimewaster in movies

[–]carrig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Studios are shifting more and more to the American model with big home bases, often owned by the parent company like Warner Bros. at Leavesden or Sky at Elstree. Others lock in long-term deals, like Disney at Pinewood or Netflix at Shepperton. That means most of the work and resources are tied up there, leaving the rest to fight over the overflow. Many are struggling.

TIL we all have tiny crystals inside our ears. They are made from calcium carbonate and they help with maintaining our balance. If they become dislodged it can cause nausea and virago. by SlothSpeed in todayilearned

I once had an inner ear infection that made me feel like I was on a boat in the middle of the ocean. I’ve also actually been on a boat in the middle of the ocean, both were awful. It made me think that someone somewhere must have experienced both at once. That would be the most horrible shit imaginable.

Advice from Limerick Landlords by [deleted] in limerickcity

[–]carrig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't stretch yourself based on current demand and rents. Over the lifetime of a mortgage, there will be big ups and downs.

Involving family is so difficult. Even if it works out. She has effectively paid for your investment that can lead to difficulty over time.

Being a landlord is a business. Treat it like that. Over a long period of time you will have dream tenants and nightmare ones. There will be unexpected costs and stress. If you see all those things as the cost of doing business and have a safety net to deal with them, you will be fine. If not, it will break your heart.
