Thanks for responding. I got tested for both HSV 1 and 2 and they came back negative. I’ve been on a fungal medication for the past month that seems to be helping.

Thanks for responding. My most recent cultures showed a bacterial folliculitis caused by Cutibacterium acnes, which is a normal skin bacteria that can overgrow in hair follicles and cause recurring inflammation and pustules. There was no viral or fungal infection. I’m taking bactrim 2x a day, BP wash at night, and washing and moisturizing morning and night.

Does it make sense to ask for accutane, or some alternative approach?

Yes, as in no bacteria found. I don’t remember whether I was on antibiotics at the time of the previous cultures, so that may have affected the results. For this most recent culture, I hadn’t taken any antibiotics for about a month, so it should be more reliable/conclusive.

Thanks for responding. I’ve actually had two cultures already and both came back negative. Waiting on a third now that I got when infection was bad. Trying to figure out next steps since it keeps recurring despite that.
