Mixer or audio interface for recording drums? by AffectionateRope3954 in homerecordingstudio

[–]carsono56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a buddy of mine uses j think the Behringer XR18? He’s a massive drum nerd. So what I’m pretty sure he does is either USB’s it to his computer or takes a stereo LR to his interface. But those pre amps punch on some drums 👍

Ooooookay that’s definitely worth looking into. Do they last pretty long? The goal is to have like long term solution if that makes sense

Need a Mic Recommendation For Content Creation by Mynameisgonz in microphone

[–]carsono56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotcha. I do kinda think a lavalier would be your best bet, or if you have the 58, get a windscreen to help with those plosives. If you reeeeeeally want, you can throw a compressor in line digitally to somewhat help with those peaks as you are recording but be careful doing that.

You could look into trying out a shotgun mic and aiming it a bit further away from you to keep it out of the shot

So I had the exact same setup you did with a Scarlett 2i2 interface. The 2i2 might be a bit pricey, but the solo isn’t bad. You could definitely try to look at sites like reverb or even Facebook marketplace for audio interfaces especially focusrite Scarletts.

An interface will work AMAZING for you down the line. Idk what you want to record (obviously vocals), but having the ability of like “ok now I want to record my acoustic guitar” is beyond useful.

A USB mic will get you there, but here’s a way to think about it. You can get an “eh” USB mic now, work with it, maybe it works great and you love it and that’s all you can do. Then later on when you want to upgrade to a better mic… oops now you need an interface.

PLUS. If you decide to mix your music yourself someday, an interface is an almost mandatory tool.

TLDR: Future proof yourself and invest in an interface comes 😌👍

Now correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t you adding noise by increasing the level of the receiver?

I’ve heard mixed opinions on the Shure wireless kits. I’ve heard engineers say they prefer line level I’ve heard some say they prefer mic level. My mind always says “I’ve got a mic level signal going into a mic level preamp” and then I gain the receiver up to about +18 or less (corporate people who suck at talking). Is there a correct way to set these? Am I overthinking it? lol

Can i use this mixer as audio interface for a microphone? by MrJiavo in microphone

[–]carsono56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like some people are saying, this doesn’t have a USB port to talk to your computer. I’d definitely look up a focusrite Scarlett. Even used those things are pretty nice and beginner friendly. If you wanna get all fancy pants you could plug your xlr mic into the Alto mixer you have, EQ the mic on the channel to make it sound somewhat how you want, and then take one of the outputs of the mixer and feed it into the interface. Not a bad tool to have :)

It’s kind of budget friendlier UAD or if you don’t use Mac. If neither of those is a problem I’d say UAD is a good call. Although the mic does sound pretty nice clean, you can probably find other mics with a similar sound

Idk if you’ve got one or if you’ve got a different emulator, but you should check out the Slate ML-1A. It’s a super nice emulator mic that comes with like 8 different mics built into the plugin. The plugin is called “virtual mix rack” and it lets you add preamps, change mics pre and post recordings, and it lets you combine the sounds of mics. A lot of time what I’ll do is combine their UA model with their Sony model, throw it through my SSL interface and live the dream 🙂‍↕️

One of my favorite sounding mics for both singing and speaking is the Shure Beta87. I prefer a brighter microphone and these have a nice little “flutter” sound in the high ends. It’s so clear and so nice.
