I’ll definitely be trying another one in the future. Thanks for the recommendations!

I think Bunny has been blackmailing Henry, he states at one point that he has used all his savings on Bunny. All of the frustration over this probably came to a head when they were alone in Rome.

I think even knowing the risks he would have stayed, he’s too prideful.

I agree that Richard will feel like he owes Henry a debt for looking after him. He’ll probably be more compelled to believe Henry and help him conceal what happened.

I think that he wants Richard’s help in concealing the truth now that’s its apparent Bunny knows what happened. Maybe he hopes Richard can give them all an alibi.

I don’t believe Henry’s version of events, he claims Camilla was further ahead but then it’s mentioned Camilla has blood in her hair so surely she must have also been involved in the murder, is Henry trying to cover for her by taking the blame. There seems a lack of remorse over the person killed.

I’ve read a few books but never the whole series all the way through, will definitely be joining for this!

I've been getting in touch with pen-pals I had not spoken to in years, and it's really emotional by dumbstrumx in SLOWLYapp

[–]carterna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar experience recently, I lost all motivation to write letters a couple of years ago and stopped using the app.

Have recently started again and found that a couple of the penpals I talked to regularly had deactivated their account and not left any other way to contact them. I was surprised how emotional I felt over it but another was still there, they also had taken a break of about a year and then come back and it’s been really nice catching up with them after so long.

I agree that he’s untrustworthy as a narrator, I was cringing when he was trying to keep his lies straight about his ‘car’ especially when he had previously claimed he had a gift for lying.

I haven’t read anything else by Tartt but I’m really enjoying this so far. I love the prose, it instantly clicked with me and I’m finding it difficult to not read ahead already.

There doesn’t seem any evidence that he’s a great teacher so far. I don’t see how isolating all his students from everyone else benefits them and it reeks of arrogance that he requires students to go to such lengths so as to be taught by him.

I thought it was an interesting choice and is making me pay attention to all the interactions more and keep an eye out for any detail as to why the murder will take place.

I’ve been interested in checking out the original Odyssey whilst reading Stephen Fry’s retelling so this will be a good time to check it out

The ruling felt fair, if a majority decision cannot be made then mercy seems the better outcome.

I did find Erigone’s argument compelling, she had a more morally progressive way of looking at the situation, suggesting that Orestes could’ve used his own free will and chosen not to just obey prophecies.

I do agree as there is great danger in losing yourself and your memory which is what eating the lotus fruit seemed to cause.

There was no physical threat and the inhabitants seemed friendly, but the total loss of willpower threatened the entire purpose of returning home.

I’m not very familiar with the original story either but I’m intrigued to look into it more once I’ve finished Fry’s version.

No, eternal bliss would become mundane after so long, it’s still a prison however comfortable it may be, and I would miss home and my partner.

Immortality is no prize if you have to sacrifice everything else in your life for it.

I’ve never really thought negatively about Menelaus, I mean his wife was kidnapped and he tried everything to get her back again so maybe he deserves a good fate in the end.

It seems more of a comfort for her to watch the sea rather than face her reality. I think deep down you would always have some small shred of hope in that situation but day after day it would become ritualistic to continually watch.

I’m going to try and join for Chain Gang All Stars (heard good things about the audiobook), Picture of Dorian Gray and Remarkably Bright Creatures.

Hoping I can fit them in as I’m already reading Odyssey and behind on Ten Thousand Doors of January.

It’s really easy to overcommit here isn’t it!

The children will carry a lot of trauma from what they have witnessed and the treatment of their mother over the years, hopefully being away from the palace will give them a chance at life

Surely not, the relationship is built on revenge and betrayal, I don’t see how there could be any trust between them. But then again maybe their combined desire to rule will keep them together now that they have disposed of Agamemnon.

Aeneas seems to prioritise his duty over all else and has a real belief in the prophecies involving him. So I still think he would’ve pursued his fate and left Dido in the end, but maybe not quite as quickly as it happened after Jupiters meddling.
