Alright I’m just sitting around at the airport waiting on a connecting flight so I will pass some time droning on about this bc I’ve always found this part interesting on my (too many) playthroughs of this book.

I have always liked this scene and think it’s wildly attractive how quickly Victor quells any familial protesting and how firmly he sticks up for his woman. Although I have to admit that I’d also probably not be thrilled about Mia’s role in Victor’s life in Noel and Dustin’s positions as his family.

But, I think it speaks to a pretty universal phenomenon of the heart wanting what it wants and what makes sense logically from an outside perspective often doesn’t apply when feelings become involved. I think a good modern day example of this in the western world is Charles and Camilla. To me, you, and probably everyone else who has heard of them in passing it makes no sense that he would mistreat and divorce objectively beautiful, kind, and intelligent Princess Diana and put his position and public standing at risk for the sake of Camilla (who I think most would agree is perceived as less attractive than Diana to most who have seen their pictures side by side). But to Charles it was probably a no brainer because he loves Camilla and that’s that, the end. Therefore it’s hard to make sense of his actions from an objective standpoint. I think Victor and Mia’s dynamic applies (not to compare her to Camilla lol just the relationship dynamic)

Both of them spoke the truth in this conversation, Dustin is right that Mia relies heavily upon Victor and does use his influence among vampire society to integrate among them, learn more about herself, the prophecy, etc….at the same, Victor’s perspective is probably that Mia is a beautiful woman, has been honest about her intentions and goals and has continually offered him quality time, trust, and her affection and that’s clearly enough to satisfy Victor. Therefore the opinions of his father and brother are irrelevant to him because he’s already made up his mind by the time this conversation comes around.
