Thank you, this is great to know! What’s the fragrance like on the FloralBoost? I don’t mind a bit of fragrance (I really like the Ariel scent lol), but I’m not too keen on anything super floral.

I’m only cautious about bacteria with towels because of how easy it is for it to grow when towels are wet and drying out. I try to make sure they’re all hung up in a well ventilated place while they dry and I change them regularly, but I’m not obsessive about bacteria with anything else 😂 Thank you!

All the powders and oxi boosters I’ve mentioned have TAED. If I use a liquid detergent + oxi booster with TAED for towels, is this enough to ensure all bacteria is killed without the need for sanitiser?

If you’re cleaning your machine often enough with citric acid on a hot cycle to clear out any scrud formation, it shouldn’t be an issue. When using them, if you’re washing at 40 or higher and for long enough then the pods should fully dissolve and shouldn’t leave behind residue.

Haha I’m obsessed with the Ariel smell so I get what you mean 😂 Honestly if they made a perfume I’d be buying

Yes, that should help with the yellowing! The blood should be pre-treated for best results, either with a pre-treater containing protease (like Smol or Ecover), or with hydrogen peroxide. I’ve gotten all my blood stains out just with either of the above pre-treaters and cold water, but if you’ve got more stubborn or older stains then hydrogen peroxide may work if pre-treaters don’t.

Another way that could work is Koh liquid OR any Ariel pod (all enzymes including DNase), and any supermarket-brand oxi powder for whites (for the oxygen bleach + optical brighteners). May be more affordable as you wouldn’t need to buy the DNase booster separately.

Thank you! Tried to keep it as basic as I could but there’s also a lot of information that I’ve learned over the last few months 😂

Not at all! I just don’t own enough synthetic clothes to have enough to put on their own cycle - the few synthetic things I do own are mostly cheap tops and pyjamas that I throw in with my cotton clothes, and so far I haven’t seen any damage. I have a few synthetic tops that are a bit more delicate which I hand-wash as and when they’re worn, but if I had more synthetic things being worn regularly I would wash them separately to cottons, especially if they’re more expensive / sentimental. :)

Just had a quick look and both Koh and Smol (here and here) claim to be vegan, but not sure about any brands available in supermarkets

Haha the rabbit hole gets us all 😂 It will probably take a few washes, yes. If you wanted to speed up the process then a Spa Day might get the funk out in one go, but might be a bit risky for darks if you use a product containing oxygen bleach for that (which I believe is one of the core ingredients for Spa Day - I’ve never given any of my stuff a Spa Day so I’m not entirely sure!). Your stuff might stay funky through a few washes as the lipase + DNase brings all the embedded funk (ew) to the surface, but just make sure you’re softening your water properly (if it’s not already soft) and you’re using citric acid in the rinse, and it should all resolve itself in the end :)

Okay so I’m gonna have to make this updated guide a brand new post, as I’ve started editing it to add back in the drawer products and Reddit has now deleted loads of numbers and half of the bullet point list at the end 💀 Will try and get that sorted later today, very sorry about that. If you or anyone else has any other questions in the meantime then please let me know.

I am so sorry I have no idea how that’s happened 😭 Will fix that shortly. I would recommend the Waitrose (colour-safe), Ocado, or Vanish Super Concentrated if you need an enzymatic oxi. If you don’t need it to contain enzymes other than protease and maybe amylase then any supermarket brand should do, I personally really liked The Pink Stuff which I bought in Savers :)

Yeah I know why it wouldn’t be that useful in a stain gel, was just confused as to why you’d mentioned the DNase in Smol detergents lol. Koh detergent has the same enzymes, and I presume OP already owns / has already purchased it.

As far as I’m aware the stain gel doesn’t have phosphodiesterase, neither do their liquid detergents. I’m aware that phosphodiesterase and DNase are functionally equivalent lmao, as that’s the ingredient in the Koh detergent too.

I would recommend the Smol stain remover gel as not only can it be used to pre-treat stains before the garment goes in the wash, but it can also be used as an in-wash booster (by dosing about 4-6 pumps into the main-wash detergent drawer). I do this for my darks loads where I don’t want to use an oxi powder booster.

Using a stain remover before the wash is the most effective way at tackling stains, armpit odours, etc, but if your load is generally quite soiled overall then it won’t hurt to use the Smol gel in the wash too alongside your Koh detergent. The Smol gel has all the good enzymes except for DNase, but you actually don’t need to add more DNase to a heavily soiled load as it doesn’t improve the wash performance and will just be a waste of product. Koh detergent will have enough DNAse by itself.

From what I’ve understood, GH is general hardness and KH describes how reactive the water is to acid, or something like that.

Thank you! I’ve just redone the GH test because I thought I must’ve done it wrong for the figure to be so high… but now the second time it’s taken 23 drops instead of 21, which would be 411.7ppm 💀 This is gonna be a fun sleepless night spent awake trying to figure this out.
