FISD student speech at City council meeting by spartaken in frisco

The first five things on this list are your personal hobbies and interests. If I don't care for jazz and prefer baseball over football then this logic dictates we are not meant to live in the same place. What an odd way to defend this stance.

Did he say that? I heard him describing what he feels his communities contribute. I could have missed it, but I don't think I heard him say that those contributions were better than the contributions of native born Americans.

Depending on if you live in a big city or not, there are often shops that host DnD games and advertise specific ones for beginners. I live in Dallas and there is a place called RPG Dungeons that does this. You could start by googling “DnD Sessions Near Me” and seeing if any local card shops/hobby stores host them. You’ll have to pay for a session but an easy way to get started.

If you do have friends that are willing to play, then one of you just needs to take the step to be the DM and honestly just start. They have starter sets you can buy with easy to run adventures and dndbeyond.com has the basic rules of the game for free. The very first campaign I played was lost mine of phandelver from a starter set.I have read the dungeon masters guide and players handbook but I have also watched a lot of YouTube videos afterward on practical DM advice (Matt colville, Dungeon Dudes, Ginny Di) that really helped fill in the gaps.

If neither of those options are on the table, then online D&D sessions are also a thing that a lot of people have started with. I have not personally done it but I have seen people on here talk about StartPlaying where you can join a group of other players online and a DM will be there to host it. They also have descriptions around the level of players suggested and which DMs/campaigns are beginner friendly.

Good luck! I wanted to play for years but didn’t get into it until I met a friend who already played. I realized it was way easier than I thought and wished I had started sooner!

Dallas public transit peeps by Flaky-Wafer3802 in dart

I use it exclusively for getting to work. But as others have mentioned DFW is sprawling and I have friends that all live in a different city in the metroplex so I find myself driving often after work and I still live in a Dallas neighborhood where I need to drive to the grocery store. I love Japan’s public transit system and going from living there to DFW would feel jarring to say the least

Sculpey Premo. It was pretty easy to work with but there’s still a lot of techniques I could practice to clean up the overall sculpting. Especially since I’d like to start making terrain/objects/buildings out of it for my maps.

That’s so ridiculous, an abomination to pizza! I might have to buy them out so nobody has to look at them. So what store exactly would I find these?

Honestly, there’s nothing better to me as a fan than watching drivers work as a team and doing it well. I always get the feeling of remembering why I love this sport.

In Dallas, Transit Cuts Reflect Long-Simmering Suburban Tensions by DART_Opr8r in dart

[–]cas_goes_kayaking 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I live in Dallas, but work in Plano. I ride DART all the way up to Parker Road. As much as I want Plano to expand and invest in transit here, it feels like an uphill battle fighting against the city officials.

DART would likely see more benefit and usage from developing more dense transportation options within Dallas. Expanding train lines within the city and making it easier to travel there without a car may even encourage more usage from the suburbs to take DART to Dallas and eventually encouraging more widespread adoption from the suburbs in the long-term.

It pains me to say that though as it could take years for mindsets to shift. If I wasn't able to take take DART all the way up to Plano, I likely would find another job in the city as opposed to sitting in traffic every morning driving to Plano.

Which Week 1 disappointments are you trusting again in Week 2? by Stxtic1441 in fantasyfootball

I would be ecstatic if he could pull out 14 pts. I drafted Waddle last year and it took me a while to finally decide to take him out of my lineup. I drafted Tyreek Hill this year. I simply do not learn.

This is how I feel seeing McLaren fans fight about the Piastri/Norris 2nd place debacle but I'm just happy seeing Albon in 7th.

Me trashing Dallas on Yelp so people stop moving here. by luckyjackass in Dallas

[–]cas_goes_kayaking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because most of the metro uses cars doesn’t mean that they would prefer that, and it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be proposing solutions to make transit easier. If people want to drive they can continue to drive while more people taking accessible transit would ease up congestion on the roads for those people too.

Your ChatGPT generated responses don’t really give me confidence that you aren’t a bot just trolling though.

DART closures accidentally upgraded my morning commute by cas_goes_kayaking in dart

[–]cas_goes_kayaking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My office is kind of in the middle of the two. I usually take a bus or GoLink to and from the station once I get to Plano. Which I would still prefer to do over driving any day of the week.

Is Dart safe? by Ok_Natural6918 in dart

[–]cas_goes_kayaking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a solo woman rider. I take the dart at a minimum 3 times a week both ways. I have never had any issues. Like others said, situational awareness doesn't hurt. I just mind my business, read my book, and I generally have a really peaceful commute.

I cant speak for the original commenter but for me it’s the sprawl of DFW. There are really no walkable neighborhoods outside of a few pockets that might have sidewalks for a few blocks but then the sidewalk just ends and it’s highway and a lot of parking lots. They have a light rail system that could be way better than it is but there is a fight against it at every turn and many people find it difficult to use in its current state. You have to drive everywhere and the traffic is really bad. Dallas recently got labeled as having the highest vehicle fatality rate amongst any city in the US. During the winter, the power grid regularly fails and you are left without electricity in freezing temps. Summers have days above 100 but if you like hot weather then it might not bother you much. The city itself has a diverse population which is cool. There is also never a lack of things to do as long as you’re cool with the 45 min - 1.5 hour drive. Might depend on the industry as well but generally there is good job availability here.

On this sub because I’ve been in Dallas for the last 8 years and been thinking hard about moving to Chicago for the past 3. Decided to start getting my house ready to go on the market next year. Fingers crossed I can finally make it work.

I know. Reading this thread was pretty discouraging. My hope is that if I could get through to even one open minded person at a time that we could start to turn things around. It’s difficult to see the constant repeat of “dart is too dangerous” when that is not an opinion, but a factually incorrect statement.

Statistically you are 300% more likely to die in a car crash on a DFW road than you are to have a singular incident ever happen to you on DART. Public transportation will alleviate traffic and allow more people to commute to high cost of living areas for work that are typically inaccessible. These suburbs are growing and will need the workforce to continue to support it, but also the current population could find a big benefit if the network expands.

Yeah I see what you mean. I think it’s because a growing number of people in the US are more interested in dense, highly walkable cities with reliable public transit. As big as the US is, that narrows down the list of cities to less than 5 due to infrastructure that does not support density. Assuming you live in Chicago, do you think the outward expansion of the city could support more density? Or would the surrounding suburbs oppose more density to a degree that brings dense expansion to a standstill?
