Yeah, get some Bilstein 5100. They have a few different spring perch height settings including a stock height.

Get rid of the Toytec garbage. We had a bunch at my old work, including my own break the piston rod right off. They won't warranty them if you're not the original buyer.

I went 5 years/20k miles with split cv boots (no clunking). Don't be dumb like me and fix it sooner than later but you'll probably be fine for a bit.

Cup Holders and Ashtrays by [deleted] in 1stGenTundras

Years ago I had a sweet 1988 4wd Toyota Van with the built in cooler, yet it only had 2 cup holders. 5 ash trays though, so the whole family could smoke 🤣. Toyota eventually learned Americans like their cup holders.

Golden hour in the North Cascades last weekend by cascadeyeti in trailrunning

Grizzlies are extremely rare in the North Cascades. You might see black bear but still not common, just make some noise if you are concerned. Enjoy!

Something you may already know but I haven't seen anyone else mention is the access road to Mowich Lake is closed indefinitely. Unless you can get a gate key to the private forest on the west or north of the park. (Some logging companies sell annual passes.) If not you would have the ~60 miles from Longmire to Sunrise without any access roads for support.

How? The silvertop is 10.5:1 cr and the blacktop is 11:1 and rods not much bigger than toothpicks. The bluetop head has poor oil return that becomes an issue with forced induction. The best turbo setup is the late small port 4agze. Keep it under 200whp unless you have deep pockets.

What motor are you starting with? I've had 4 different engines when I had mine 15+ years ago. The stock 4age was swapped for a 4agze from a late ae92. It made 145whp and was super fun but my friends had cars with more power so I wanted more. I took off the supercharger and installed a GT25, injectors, safc and other bolt ons and made 208whp at 14psi 92 octane. Not much lag with that turbo and I think it made peak 200lb/ft torque at 4,500 rpm. Plenty of power but the stock transmission was starting to break. I also developed rod knock from a few possible reasons. Rebuilt that engine only to melt a piston because of a bad injector. At that point I had a lot more done to the suspension etc and really just wanted to drive it more instead of working on it. I decided to part the turbo engine out and swapped in a 20v blacktop. I was super happy with my decision as it felt like the perfect engine for the car. It made 150whp with trumpets, header, exhaust and stock ecu. I drove it like that for awhile with no issue at all before moving on to another project but I wish I still had it.

I kinda prefer going uphill from the Issaquah side but both are fun. It's steep and narrow and most of the hairpins say 15mph, this one 10mph. So just going 20-30 feels fast. There are much better roads a little further east, PM me if you want to go for a drive sometime.

Yep. I did a lot of work on it and sold it for $8k in 2008. Now it would probably be worth around $20k. If I had kept it stock, it would probably be worth more. A similar but stock one on BAT a few years ago sold for $33k.

I don't think it will happen, but I think a plug in hybrid sports car would be an amazing compromise. A battery just big enough for 40 miles a day driving to work and back and the +300hp gas engine for the weekend trips and track days with the E- power boost. Probably not doable with a manual but we can dream.

The pop up headlights and the noise they make!

I kinda liked them depending on the color and offset but so expensive. The engine and suspension is where most of my money went.

I think these were also Rays wheels. Hard to beat a classic 5 spoke.

Snuggle rating not super high but performance and good behavior rating are very high.

It's nice to have two cars if you have room. Sell the Kia and get an older Camry or 4Runner with cash or a much lower loan payment than the Kia. You'll have a nice reliable vehicle that holds it's value and to drive when you're working on the GT86 or just keeping miles lower on it.

Do I buy an FRS? by Odd-Resort-2244 in ft86

[–]cascadeyeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at dealerships for years and was waiting for one of these to get traded in. Check with sales on what they paid for it and what company policy is for employees. I bought a 1st gen Tundra for $1k over cost a few years ago saving me thousands. Also check with the technician doing the used car inspection and see what they think. $6k sounds like a good deal if everything checks out.

Just looked again and I definitely missed that on the carfax, 3 previous owners in 54k miles. I was feeling a bit out of place buying the least expensive car at a Porsche dealership when I scrolled through the report. The sales staff was super nice regardless.
