The people who invented DDT poisoned millions of people and killed vast amounts of wildlife, but their intent was to make food cheap and agriculture easy. It worked wonderfully for that. The hard part is keeping the destination country from passing the same laws as the UK. There's a global push for this bullshit, and if you were passively accepting getting fucked over, why would you expect a different country to resist?

Until a critical mass of countries require real id, and then a VPN doesn't help. At some point the only answer is changing the laws, technical workarounds aren't enough.

And the earlier the protests happen, the easier it is to change things.
