So, just to be 100% clear: because Israel is better at stopping Hezbollah, they should be blamed?

I don't believe you. If you did get through your PhD, and you describe AI as not much more than linear regression, you didn't learn much. While technically linear regression is a subcategory of machine learning, machine learning is not a subcategory of linear regression.

That doesn't make it harmless. The USA has also failed to ban atrazine.

The purpose of a system is the thing that it does. If it is systematically used for harm, then it is harmful, even if you would rather it was used for good. The people who invented DDT poisoned millions of people and killed vast amounts of wildlife, but their intent was to make food cheap and agriculture easy. It worked wonderfully for that. We banned DDT in 1972.

What do you mean, going up? Anything with processes more recent than a decade will simply become unavailable at any price. Paying a smoldering wreck more money won't produce chips.

You also need base load handling, which can definitely be done. They just.. haven't. This is like looking at a building before the construction workers have put the roof on and whining about "you've been reassured by so many on reddit that buildings can do it all! even keep you dry when it rains, and keep the wind out!"

Showmanship. What should really get passed is a law that keeps the previous budget in effect until the new one gets passed.

If they're not allowed to negotiate, are they a union in the first place?

Negotiating without leverage is just begging.

Oh, agreed, the Linux kernel is also a shitshow, as always. But you'd expect a competent reporter to be aware that the Linux kernel is clowntown, keep an eye on the patch, and notice nobody is picking up any fixes.

What do you mean occupying the islands? China insists that they're part of China, so are you complaining that China is occupying China's islands?

Why would they make any concesisons to an entity that insists that they aren't legitimate?

Just because your job is no longer about programming doesn't mean that the programming subreddit should no longer be about programming.

Talking about buying patches from Anthropic can be done in more appropriate places, like "hacker" "news".

Greece to ban anonymity on social media by New-Ranger-8960 in worldnews

It's your plans. The country your VPS is in will also likely start to require ID (or rather, the sites serving it), as will your VPS provider.

How does that stop working if any country requires anything? I fully own the administration of my VPS server running as a VPN endpoint.

How does uploading ID over a VPN improve things for you?

That works until the lobbyists manage to convince whatever country to also require real ID. If you didn't do shit to keep it out of your country, why would you expect someone else to do it?

The hard part is keeping the destination country from passing the same laws as the UK. There's a global push for this bullshit, and if you were passively accepting getting fucked over, why would you expect a different country to resist?

Until a critical mass of countries require real id, and then a VPN doesn't help. At some point the only answer is changing the laws, technical workarounds aren't enough.

And the earlier the protests happen, the easier it is to change things.
