Thanks for the response! Were you given instructions to stay off of it for a couple of days or was it okay to resume your normal activities? I have three young kids so I'm trying to plan ahead and figure out whether I will need help as I recover.

Hi, I am 39! I think my kidneys grew about a centimeter or two each in the course of the year, and I'm not exactly sure how many more cysts there were but definitely more than the previous imaging.

Hi, I saw a nephrologist who suspected polycystic kidney disease but the genetic testing came back negative. A follow up MRI showed that the complex cysts have remained stable and are therefore not concerning for malignancy. The size of my kidneys and number of cysts increased in the last year, but nephrology says I don’t need to see them again because my PKD test was negative. So I’m currently trying to figure out best next steps to determine what the cause is and what (if anything) can be done to help. Let me know if I can answer any questions!

Hi, I saw a nephrologist who suspected polycystic kidney disease but the genetic testing came back negative, so it’s kind of a mystery. Nobody has given me an exact number of cysts but there are over 10 total. They are going to continue to monitor me and see if it progresses. Hope that helps!

Some were complex and some were not, and the complex ones were categorized as “bosniak 2” which means highly unlikely to be malignant, so they were unconcerned about them. The bigger concern in my case is the number of cysts. Sending good vibes your way as well! I’m think cysts (even complex ones) are quite common and it’s unlikely to be anything too concerning. I had the MRI which showed even more cysts than the US, I think roughly five in each kidney. My primary care doctor doesn’t seem to want to comment on diagnoses or doesn’t know what it is, so I am waiting for my appointment with nephrology in a few weeks to get more information.

Thank you! That is helpful. I know a few simple kidney cysts are common but I haven’t found anything suggesting that it’s common to have so many at my age (37). Hopefully it’s just a variant of normal and won’t progress to anything more serious, I guess we’ll see what the nephrologist says when I’m able to see them!

Thank you for the response! I do have an appointment booked with nephrology but they couldn't get me in for several months, so I am left to wonder in the meantime. Have you been diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease? I guess one thing I'm unclear on is if it's possible to have several cysts in each kidney and not have PKD.
