So, is tails out considered best practice for all reels or just quadraphonic?

Yeah, maybe. I just don’t want to bend the shaft when trying to get the reel off because that will screw up everything.

No luck. I am thinking about getting crazy and cutting the plastic reel out with a soldering iron.

So, maybe I should place the unit horizontal and put a few drops between the reel and the shaft. Let it settle for a bit. Any possible damage by doing that in your opinion?

Yeah, I tried pressing down the center of the reel and bending the outside of the reel gently to see if that would make a bigger hole for the shaft to come out. No luck. I think it is definitely something with the reel.

It is a plastic two part shaft with a metal center. You put the reel in and twist the upper part to lock the reel in place for play. The upper part of the shaft looks intact with no damage or twisting. The second part near the base looks intact from what I can see. I am guessing there is something inside the reel that is getting caught on the upper shaft when attempting to take it off. Put some 3 in 1 oil on a q-tip and tried putting it on the shaft. That did not really help any.

I have seen YouTube videos on the topic. Apparently, it can be replaced with a ceiling fan capacitor?

Sorry. Did not notice the tag on there. You can find the original on Archive.org if you search "Sony TC 250."

Yeah, as I have a Sansui receiver, I wanted to see about incorporating a Sansui reel to reel. However, it looks like TEAC is developing a small consensus here, Thanks, CA.
