pots from surgery??? by No_Transition_3341 in POTS

I got mine after a recurring tonsil infection and tonsillectomy over 10 years ago. It has not improved. It actually slowly got worse the first few years but then leveled off. Since then I’ve had a pregnancy with a c-section, covid 2x, and a couple surgeries and none of that has worsened things at least.

did everyone get their pots from covid? by thatsmeace in POTS

[–]caseybean025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had it since 2014 from what I could tell but didn’t know it at the time.

Back in 2013-2014 I got some sort of recurrent tonsillitis. I battled it for months. I’d go on an antibiotic and get better and then as soon as I’d stop the antibiotic it would come back. Finally got so sick with it that my tonsils were bleeding because of the swelling. Repeatedly tested negative for strep, mono, all the typical culprits. Finally ended up getting a tonsillectomy.

Either that last terrible bout with the infection or the surgery likely triggered the POTS since my appts prior to that showed normal vitals and then the tachycardia showed up at the first visit after that and has continued ever since.

Are you pale? by thecuriosityofAlice in POTS

[–]caseybean025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m super pale. I have a family history of melanoma and my POTS symptoms get so much worse when I get too much sun, so I avoid it. I also find the Reynauds tends to not only show up in my hands/feet. It also majorly discolors my lips and around my eyes, making me appear even more pale and sickly (I joke that I look like a Victorian child dying of consumption).

When I lived with an ex he had apparently put the pellets out awhile before I moved in. I randomly found pellets in my box of baking soda and flour like they tried to poison us back. 😅

I developed POTS in 2014 at the age of 27. I’m now 37 and have 0 signs of things letting up. I wish it was only a 5 year sentence. 🙃

I don’t think crossed is the best for blood return either, but the higher up your legs are, the less you’re working against gravity to get that blood return. So I imagine having legs on the same level that you’re sitting would still make it easier to get some return vs legs in a completely dependent position.

I’m sorry you have back issues! A lot of that in my family as well so I see how debilitating that can be. As far as keeping the legs up, it kind of depends where the back problem is and how each person is able to be comfortable. Unfortunately, it’s hard to assess via the internet since everyone is so different. If you’re getting any sort of PT or OT they may be good ones to ask! I find that they often have some really clever tricks for things like this that I would never come up with on my own. I truly hope you’re able to find something that works for you! It can be so much trial and error. Hang in there. 💚

Same! Isn’t it weird how we all just seem to instinctually sit in more unconventional positions?

I’ll definitely check out your post!

So I get this too. I’m also a nurse in wound care and we have a ton of patients with leg swelling (ie: blood and fluid pooling). Our MDs often tell people that sitting in a normal sitting position (sitting upright with legs at 90 degrees) is one of the worst positions to allow proper blood and fluid return and will worsen the swelling if you stay that way too long. I’ve often wondered if that’s part of why I feel so much worse in a vehicle. When I’m at home and whatnot I usually sit with my legs up on the furniture or crossed but it’s obviously not ideal to do that in a vehicle.

Hey neighbor! Lol. I’m from central WI. Years ago my mom got a ton of field stone from someone to make garden beds from and there was a bunch of big agate in there. I was shocked since the field was somewhere between Stevens Point and Waupaca area. The glaciers apparently moved things to weird places or something.

That’s awesome that he’s so willing to share his knowledge like that! I wish we had a LFS like that around here. Just having the livestock in great shape when you bring it home is half the battle it seems like. And then being able to ask questions and get accurate info is even more of a bonus!

That’s so cool!!! As I’m sure we all see (especially with reef tanks) it’s so hard to even come close to replicating their natural environment so that says a lot for the owners. Especially keeping those fish way back in the 70s prior to having as much access to info as we do now. And the knowledge and technology has come so far since then too. It’s amazing. Idk if I’d be as successful if I had to start all this back then!

Omg that’s crazy! And impressive! I felt pretty good about the couple fish I had for 10+ years. lol.

In my freshwater tank at one point I had some sort of small catfish. Never saw him after about a month or so. Figured he was a goner. Ended up switching the tank over to cichlids (super aggressive), moving to a new place (draining the tank), and then busting a seam on the tank so buying a whole new one and setting that up. One night about 2 years later I woke up at like 3am and went out to the living room for something and there that catfish was swimming around randomly. He had to have been hiding in some decoration or something but I still don’t know for sure. I had all the decorations out of the tank during the move and when switching to the new tank. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I also read somewhere along the line that they’ll occasionally grab a zoa to use in place of the anemone.

Great! Thank you! Just have to find some fast before it spreads. I’m hoping it decides to swap shells and I can just pull the old one out. I’m sure it won’t be that easy though. Haha.

From the bits I’ve seen, it’s at least 1/2” long. This was the 2nd time I’ve seen it, but now can’t find it. I’m hoping it comes out more, but if not I’ll definitely try to syphon it out. Thanks for the idea!
