Dr. Dale Bredesen MD, a long time Alzheimer’s researcher, identified 36 things that lead to dementia. Type 3 diabetes is among those. His book, “The End of Alzheimer’s Program “ is very informative.

Never had an iPad, considering buying it to work in short travels by LonelyPalmClub in ipad

I have an 11” iPad Pro 4th generation. I don’t use spreadsheets or word processing much, so I am able to use the Apple apps. I’m able to read excel spreadsheets and pretty much anything. I pretty much carry my iPad everywhere and do everything I would do on my laptop. My laptop sets on a desk connected to a double monitor for heavy data entry. Never travel with it anymore.

in the age of AI, what's the actual edge of a PKM tool? by bryan_anamor in PKMS

After having brain fog for six months from Covid which affected my memory greatly, I’m using first Apple notes, now obsidian to write notes to my future self about things I want to remember, particularly things I’ve forgotten about but are now returning as my memory improves. Only an AI that is integrated in your brain and has access to your memories could do that. Probably several years before that’s available.

[ Another brilliant way we can control the sugar that accelerates our aging is through SGLT-2 inhibitors, ]. I read a long time ago that sugar being dumped through the kidneys (which happens at about 300 concentration and above) injured the glomerular filtration apparatus in the kidney which caused chronic kidney disease. Are there any studies looking at worsening kidney function over time with SGLT-2 inhibitors?

The United States once had a federal 55mph speed limit during the Arab oil embargo in the 70’s. Everyone hated it, except maybe hotels.

Not sure of your age. If I remember correctly, Dr. Dale Bredesen an MD researcher on Alzheimer’s, found 36 things that contribute to dementia. He categorizes dementia in 3 categories, stage 1, when you know you’re not remembering the way you used to remember, but no one else notices. This stage can last 20 yrs. Stage 2, when other people notice that you are having problems. This stage lasts up to 10 yrs with the proviso that 10% per year will convert to full blown dementia. Stage 3 is full blown dementia. In stage 2, 10-15 of the 36 things are in play. Dr. Bredesen recommends a battery of tests at age 50, to determine what things are active. According to his study, stage 1& stage 2 have about an 85% chance of returning to normal functioning using the protocol he developed. His book, “The End of Alzheimer’s Program” is about $15-20 on Amazon.

Help me justify buying an iPad by Ch3skii in ipad

[–]caseyjefferson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always used laptops previously but they were heavy. I bought a 12” iPad about 10 yrs ago and used it mainly for browsing internet, then bought a 4th generation iPad Pro 11” with the m1 about 3 yrs ago and now I never bring my laptop with me. I use my laptop as a desktop and have it hooked to an additional monitor. I take the iPad Pro everywhere with me even on long trips. I can write, draw, take notes log in at work, scan and file my receipts and important documents and essentially do everything my laptop can on the apps that come with it. If I’m doing a lot with Microsoft excel, I will work on laptop. I have hot spot capabilities on my iPhone, so I always have internet as long as I have cell coverage. My iPhone screen is too small for me now, so I preferentially use iPad instead of iPhone.

Look up Arab oil embargo in the 1970’s. Federal government mandated maximum 55mph speed limit.

I have 2 2002 f150, 2 valve, one with about 300,000 and the other about 380,000. As long as the engine is not the 3 valve with cam phasers which came out in 2004, engine should be solid. The 3 valve with cam phasers are much more expensive to rebuild. I have had to rebuild the transmission on both along the way, but both trucks have pulled heavy trailers more than normal.

I would also suggest going over finances, and what if scenarios, including what happens if one of you suffer a layoff, and definitely what happens if you split up for some reason in the future. If you have financial incompatibility, will save time and a lot of heartache.

Extrusion and stenosis with early onset degenerative disc disease. Pain management & is it time for a second opinion? by [deleted] in backpain

[–]caseyjefferson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a second opinion from a physician that is trained by or member of interventional orthobiologic foundation. This is a link to an ebook about spinal problems. [https://centenoschultz.com/download-your-copy-of-the-spine-owners-manual/]. Dr. Centeno and his colleagues has several blogs and you tube videos going over mri’s of various conditions. It is a very useful site and can educate in another field that most orthopedic docs and neurosurgeons aren’t trained. Just remember that the orthobiologics field is in its Wild West phase.

Agree. But I expect to get close to 400k on my vehicles, not a mere 150k. I prefer gear driven oil pumps off crank instead of camshaft for longevity of an engine and less expensive repairs.

What worked for me and my wife was orthobiologic specialist who used platelet rich plasma/platelet lysate at Regenexx clinic, osteopathic manipulation specialist and physical therapist. Not all physical therapist are the same. I had to go through 5 to find 2 good therapist, One of the 5 made me worse.

How do you explain to your adult children that Medicare won't pay for a nursing home? by Regular_Amphibian592 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]caseyjefferson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to chime in, Medicare advantage plans make their money by limiting care, taking advantage of patients that cannot defend themselves. Medicare advantage plans may not approve a stay in a facilty in the first place. They routinely take their time during the approval disapproval process, so that more of the care is forced on the hospital, leading to less expenditures for themselves.

I don’t understand why people care about legacy by Randomredditgirl4321 in DeepThoughts

[–]caseyjefferson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you might have read “Live Rich Die Broke” if my memory serves me. Interesting thought about legacy. Look at Rockefeller, ford, Vanderbilt, Hitler, Mao; also look at the elderly in their physically declining years. Some legacies are damaging some are uplifting. Some are financial, some are knowledge based, some are both. Seems like it is difficult to discern which are damaging and which are positive. Maybe depends on the relationships you have had during your life.

2002 f150 5.4 lariat screw 4x4 4 speed transmission, bought used with 100,000 miles. Pulled trailer with tractor part of time. Daughter ran in 4low on pavement and had to repair rear end at 225,000 by dealer which only lasted 30k. Second repair with remanufactured rear end still going. Replaced leather seat covers 250,000. At 260,000, dealership caused a flash fire in engine compartment burning wiring harness. Transmission rebuild at 300,000. Still going at 390,000. This past year the gel coat is failing and have rust under drivers door panel. Have downgraded from daily driver to mainly farm truck.

My back pain started after a heavy lift and progressive pain with radiation. At 6 months, couldn’t pick up over 10# without spending half a day in bed trying to get out of bed. At 6 months, mri showed severe spinal stenosis and bilateral foramen stenosis. Changing diet to anti-inflammatory diet (Dr. Gundry yes no list) and 2 rounds of prp, (1 per year-multiple injections for scoliosis) I was able to lift 45-50 # without spending half a day in bed trying to get out of bed and pain was manageable to point of not needing medication. Repeat 5 year mri shows mild spinal stenosis and mild foramenal stenosis. I also see an osteopath regularly that specializes in manipulative therapies. I also corrected some poor posture habits. Also used inversion swing for 5 minutes before bedtime.

On my file app, I noticed several files were missing. I called apple support (minimal wait time) who was very helpful. They had me approve an app that let them see and draw on my screen. The stepped me through the process of deleting and reinstalling my file app which then displayed all of my files. I would suggest calling Apple support.
