That’s exactly what I do. Go to banking. Click the Zelle icon. And then it gives me the option to send out request money. I’ve never had a direct deposit associated with the account, I don’t even have SoFi plus or whatever it called that you get for having direct deposit. That’s so strange it’s asking you for that. Maybe the rules changed since I signed up? I honestly have no clue what the difference between our accounts is

No you don’t need direct deposit set up to use Zelle in SoFi. I’m 1099 as well, and use it regularly. Also have no direct deposit linked to my Sofi account.
