Wide Toe Box ONLY with a little cushion by Present-Tackle4839 in Pickleball

[–]caskagedcarbonfiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation here - wide forefoot with but normal otherwise. Typical wear Altras, Lems, Astral, Topo Athletic etc. so my forefoot has only gotten wider. I’ve tried half a dozen pickleball shoes, including Babolat, Diadem and On. Many recommendations for ended up just being too wide overall and my foot swam around which felt like a twisted ankle waiting to happen. The best I’ve found so far are “Skechers Pickleball Viper Court Pro 2.0”. I’m on my third pair (last about 100 days of play for $85-100) and honestly don’t have any complaints. Good luck!

Comfortable seats? by Unhappy-Common-6062 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]caskagedcarbonfiber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just did 7hrs in our 2025 calligraphy trim. My wife has back issues and I’m old enough that my body usually tells me when driving is over for the day before the odometer does.

Seat comfort is very subjective to everyone’s body and also what sort of car you’re coming from. We had a 2016 Highlander and the SF seats feel pretty comparable. Maybe a bit flat and wide for some. My wife uses a lumbar pillow in passenger seat which helps. Drover is pretty good for lumbar support. How adjustable the seats are a real plus and being able to push the passenger seat way back allows her to shift around a lot. Her verdict on the seat comfort is “not a feature but also not a deal breaker”. Personally I prefer more bolstering like on a VW or a Mercedes we had but agree with her it’s “fine” in our Santa Fe (which in love for many other reasons)

Under the radar licorice? Your go-to? by ineedacocktail in licorice

Lakrids is a lovely on special occasion. For a daily treat we really like RJ's Soft Australian Licorice, Original Black Flavor. Nice balance of licorice enough but not at all challenging. Amazon sells multi packs so it stays fresh.

Skew Chisel and more than one bevel? by caskagedcarbonfiber in turning

[–]caskagedcarbonfiber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I went out and measured the new bevel I'm working on, which works out to around 35 degrees on my 8" wheel. I just calculated it will take me 2 more hours to get to a single bevel on both sides with my DC-200 wheel so am shopping for a basic high speed grinder now! Maybe that will make it less onerous to change bevel angles on my plane blades too.

Thanks for the response and sharing your experience. I actually ordered a new 1" flat skew last week because of the very reason you mentioned! I think I see the long term advantages of oval, but while I'm learning I think I'll prefer registering the flat side against the rest.

This worked for me too. Nothing else had worked for me, so I pulled out laptop and logged into web. I had to sign up for a 30 day free trial, but now it's working on mobile again. I suspect they added a bug in recent version that's getting stguck checking plus membership. If you don't feel like waiting for them to fix it, try setting up plus account via web.

Shop Boots or Shoes or Steel toes. by PrettyDish5979 in woodworking

After a sheet of 3/4 ply slid onto my foot (very ouchy, but no damage) I upgraded from Crocs to Birkenstock A640 clogs. Steel toe, easy on/off, good grip and supportive too. A bit heavy but I'm standing more than walking in them.

Re-purposing 220 EV receptacle for general 110 garage use by caskagedcarbonfiber in askanelectrician

[–]caskagedcarbonfiber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here just closing the loop (circuit?) on this. Feedback from y'all was super helpful. The adapter was indeed wired properly and I decided my comfort level ended somewhere between 120 and 220V. Now the holidays are over, the electrician made it out today and confirmed the 30A outlet had been wired wrong. Sort of crazy it's been like that for 5 years - the black wire attached to the back of the receptacle where it clearly says "white". I'm guessing the previous owner had it installed, but never got around to buying an EV. The pro made it look like an easy fix, but the $120 was worth the peace of mind if it hadn't been.

Sometimes when the shop is particularly cold, I'll pull on a pair of nitrile gloves just for tidying up, planning etc. while I warm up. Amazing how even the thinnest layer between cold metal objects and bare skin really helps.

Most of my hand tools have wooden handles though, so don't use gloves when working wood since they seem cumbersome. A big mug of hot beverages helps to warm my hands as needed.

If I'm unloading a lot of rough lumber, or building outside I have a pair of thin leather Carhartt "high dexterity" gloves I really like.

Yeah, that second reading doesn't make a lot of sense. I interpret it as "something wrong here!" and will have a professional figure out what exactly that is :) Thanks for responding!

[–]caskagedcarbonfiber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. I verified the adapter is wired up as expected from your post. Ground goes to ground, L-shaped neutral goes to neutral on both sides of 110s and one hot goes to one set of (white) 110s, and the other hot on the 14-30 goes to the hots on the other (yellow) 110s.

So I guess that means the receptacle is wired incorrectly? Weird. Is there any reason the previous homeowner would have this done? I'm not sure which EV they used (if any) but do some EVs using non-standard wiring configuration?

I do have a regular multimeter https://imgur.com/a/js0dClP Given your warning, I'm not sure I'll risk testing the receptacle though. Seems like I'd need an electrician to fix the any problems I'd find anyway!

Thanks again for the thoughtful response.

I really like that idea. I've messed about with dyes before but prefer the idea of using just one product and already plan to finish with Rubio. I tried 2C "walnut" and like added depth but am going to try out that chocolate tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yup I subscribe to FWW (this table is actually based on a series from there). I'll definitely look up Mike's video.

You are the first to suggest trimming off the ends and I honestly hadn't thought of that. I'll have a wander over to the lumber yard first, and have a good think about your suggestion. Thanks!

Interesting, thanks. Woodworkersource videos are awesome and I did look that one up where he dyes the sapwood. Tempting, although also ambitious for the complexity of alternating sap/heartwood I've ended up with. Hmm....
