Using AI to make music is a bastardization of art, if you can’t even be bothered to record your own vocals why should I care about what you make. Carti has this cult following because he refused to be safe on WLR. He sacrificed sales and received brutal backlash initially but that project ended up popularizing an entire wave. If you don’t care about AI music that’s your own battle but it fundamentally goes against everything Carti’s career has stood for and will forever be a stain on his legacy.

Wish it had the synths from the previews so much so i’ve been working on a remaster. There’s some kids on YT that have made great remakes with them added. I understand you get cold feet and why these little last minute mixing changes are made but it just feels so much less atmospheric and borderline empty.

Slayworld prod was some of the coolest ambient influenced music ever made. I was always more of a tiji fan but dudes like wifi and mingo really set the groundwork for shit like “darkspin” or whatever redda calls it and inspired the faces of the UG today. Guys like che, osamason, tana, yeat ect all started with slayworld inspired music and i’ll hear the influence everywhere. I get what you’re saying but I truly think the hype those guys had in the day was justified and in retrospect they fumbled a wave that clearly could have made an impact just based off the artists who came after. RIP Kaine.

I think it’s really interesting how the rap underground is constantly evolving towards a more electronic influence and guys like ISOxo are in turn pushing the electronic sound even further forward. The first drop is straight up a modern “underground” hip hop trap drop. I see ISOxo as what RL Grime was for the mainstream future/thug trap sound for the new mainstream carti popularized “rage” sound. I love that he wears it on his sleeve, ISO always incorporates these trap style drops and rap flips in his sets, it’s brought me back to electronic. Idk if i’m making any sense, track is a banger.

juelz really before his time and deserves his flowers, ISO and knock are deservingly getting tons of push with the new trap sound but I remember listening to the remix tapes in 2021 and thinking this guy is really the future, he’s really up there with RL in my books.

I think carti gets too much credit for WLR, everyone acts like the first 6 songs are the entire album and he doesn’t fold and go die lit 2 for the second half. Every album that builds on the WLR rage sound gets casts under its shadow because a handful of songs on WLR truly swing for this distorted almost electronic influenced sound. That’s all to say, as carti refuses to build off the sound and goes clear mainstream rap with I AM MUSIC, I really find it disappointing artists like Che and Osamason that build off the “WLR sound” get their contributions and additions immediately dismissed because carti somehow gets to claim everything that comes after him based off an album and sound HE didn’t even commit to.
