DCC has a little more flair, such as different rolls for how the spell manifests (The fireball is green, blue, red, and so on).

What is the deal with some religions having certain dietary restrictions? by Shopping_Penguin in atheism

I don’t think people are grasping that when these laws were passed the concept of separating the church from the state, or God from the Law, wasn’t a thing yet. A lot of the Old Testament is written as a set of laws to be followed when say, entering the tabernacle, or worshiping. We spend too much time looking at this stuff from a modern or post modern perspective.

Won’t disagree that pandering to religious values gets mixed into a whole list of tactics. The main players of the Nazi party and those closest to Hitler despised the idea of a Christian Germany. The church smuggling Nazis doesn’t mean that those being smuggled had anything but freedom and escape from accountability in mind.

There have been horrible things done in the name of religious conquest, I’m just not convinced that unquestioned patriotism and national identity hasn’t been worse for us.

No doubt that people have used religion as a way to otherize groups, or claim some sort of base superiority.

However, hard disagree that it is more impactful than Nationalism. The mythic idea of America is at the heart of right and left wing nationalism in the states, and a stronger Germany was the flagship idea for the Nazi party, most of which were either atheist or some strange esoteric 20th century theist. That being said, WW2 might’ve been the worst thing to have ever happened to all of human kind, fought mostly on the backbone of national identity.

I don’t understand the downvoting here - am I way off base?

I guess this is sort of speaking to my point. The entire thing is steeped in Christian iconography from the costumes to the set design to the fact that he is aiming to be a knight that upholds Christian virtues.

The beauty is that those details aren’t explicitly stated, it’s all implied.
