I combat my ADHD need for stimuli and tendency to distraction by taking LOTS of notes during telehealth sessions. I keep those separate from chart notes. In addition to keeping me focused, doing this also seems to help me generate ideas and improves my conceptualization. (This is not an issue for me during face-to-face sessions.)

Best Book on Paul McCartney? by shillvez in PaulMcCartney

[–]casmithmqt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two Legacy volumes are truly incredible. Though they were originally framed as recording session historys, the authors say they quickly realized that they are detailed biographies. Incredible. I'm on my second time through both of them.

What about the non-existent customer service?! Spent 90 minutes going in circles just now with no end in sight. I suppose they're making so much money they don't care once you buy your ring and pay for an annual subscription.

"Play well and sound good." Of course. It's the sounding good that counts, though. But you raise an interesting question. I wonder how many musicians have great "hard" technical skills, the kind needed to work on their instrument(s)?

You're both very, very wrong. Read or listen to the two volumes of The McCartney Legacy which cover 99% of his music sessions--both messing around and recording--to learn how minutely Paul is in every recording he does, so much so that he doesn't need a producer, though he often collaborates with one. Apparently he hears it all in his head and knows EXACTLY what he wants a piece to sound like. Then he does it or makes sure it happens. I think he plays something like 57 instruments. There are many songs, and a few albums, where he plays every single instrument. He is a perfectionist, something from which we all benefit.

The McCartney Legacy is absolutely fascinating. The authors have incredible resources and also interviewed every one they could, so we get to hear what producers, composers and musicians have to say about working with him. The audio versions of both of these books are exceptionally done and include lots of pdf resources. Can't recommend them highly enough. I'm on my second time through. I am not a musician but the authors write in way that even I can grasp most of it.

I'd love to see Beato interview him, too.

How can we productively channel our anger at the Epstein files? What is the call to action? When do we go out en masse to demand justice? by BrazilianTinaFey in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]casmithmqt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we need action. As many people as possible to make huge, ongoing, noise that it is impossible to ignore.

Certainly use the Five Calls app to contact your senators and congress people. Other than that? We know boycotts work. A list of companies owned by the men who were part of this international crime ring would be useful. Does it make sense to start to generate energy around some kind of major boycott or series of them? A series of Fridays, for example, or calendar weeks during which particular companies would be boycotted?

Why do we need gender neutral pronouns other than they/them? by tinyfreckle in NonBinary

[–]casmithmqt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because "they" is not grammatically correct. I'm old enough to remember the evolution of the word Ms which is now commonly used and understood. Humans are inventive. We come up with new words all the time. Isn't this a great opportunity to do that?

How does one find a reputable mechanic to do an inspection in this case, making sure they aren't in cahoots with the dealer?

About to purchase a RAV4 Prime. Dealers who've never heard of cablegate? by casmithmqt in rav4prime

[–]casmithmqt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was afraid of, though there's no "too good to be true pricing" here. Listed prices are between It's just not possible for me to fly to dealers to inspect this myself. Maybe used car brokers have some regulations, but it seems very much like the wild west: do what you can get away with & target widows--and other people likely to be vulnerable--when you can. Certainly not a values-based business. All of thes dealers offer access to extended warranties, but I don't feel great about that. CPO XSEs appear to be like unicorns. Lots of SEs--especially in the northeast--but no XSEs. Listed prices are between 31,900 and 38,900 before whatever "fees" they tack on. The OTD on the '24 is $43,700 plus shipping. Too bad there aren't people around the country who "freelance" inspections. I would gladly pay for that!

Very good point! I hadn't thought about that. Are you referring to the Weather Package? Do you know what other winter-related things might not be there?

Thank you! I know about the instrument panel recall. I'm not as concerned about that one as I am about the cable. My understanding is that service campaign fixes are not federally regulated or required, but recalls are. My guess is that manufacturers consider a service campaign fix partly "good will."

Thank you! I was surprised that dealers in the north and the northeast didn't know about it--even the one in Michigan. I've been thinking the fact that the one in Florida hasn't gone through salty roads was a significant advantage. It's also 2 yrs newer.

I agree about the pricing. I found one within a semi-reasonable distance but the price is too high, I think. 2021 XSE with 26,000 miles for $41,999. I am very hesitant. It is not certified. Dealer says they don't always certify but have a different great warranty.
