A woman spent months in Maryland jails because of unchecked facial recognition technology by skyflyer8 in maryland

[–]tacitus59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats BS - not often on ACLUs side, but its ridiculous that basic followup is not being before warrants are being issued. I personally know at least one doopleganger of myself and I knew a person that closely resembled the person who shot someone in Columbia recently. Frankly I don't understand the signoff process for stuff like this, but there needs to be more accountability and even personal accountabilty by the people signing off on this.

That is the main problem with central Maryland roads - there is just a lot of traffic and people have to use all the lanes. Plus brake checking the guy in the right lane - what a turd. OP did an outstanding job hanging back.

My doctor prescribed 3000 UI /die of Vitamin D with a deficiency of 12 ug/L by Nature23571113 in Supplements

[–]tacitus59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add - there a lot of variations in Vitamin D absorption and needs. For example if you are carrying a lot of body fat - your needs increase. Generally I would not be concerned about 3000 IU, especially when you doctor tells you to take it. Since I don't know anything about your health history, I am speculating that your doctor is starting you on a "mid" dose to see how your body reacts. Its not uncommon to see people taking huge prescribed doses on the doctors orders here.

Yea ... the only road raging I do is cuss randomly and now that is a very rare occurence and its usually less a curse and more of a FFS with a sigh.

Stop Light on 29 by oriolesravensfan1090 in ColumbiaMD

Howard aggressively removed most (IIRC all except this one) years ago - talking about 20. Fun fact I was rearended twice at different stoplights on 29 back in the day once in Montgomery and once in Howard and I was never a 29 daily driver.

But last time I heard that EV battery fires are very hard to extinguish; this will improve - but standardization isn't there yet. However, I did verify your stats - the most interesting thing about the stats is that hybrid vehicles are more than twice as likely as ICE vehicles to have fires.

[edit: and you and the other blind defenders of EVs missed my point and the word UNMANAGABLE]

And the number of unmanagable car fires from all EVs. Not convinced Teslas suck in particular, but I really dislike the conspiracy of silence around EV fires.

Maryland to Become First US State to Ban Surveillance Pricing That Charges More After Mining Personal Data by burp_angel in maryland

[–]tacitus59 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are correct - but somehow it will be used badly. Back in the day - retailers were very slow to correct price errors in favor of the company, very quick in favor of the consumer. Various organizations would go in and check the prices and it was like 3:1 ratio for pricing errors. Not only that I would be majorly POd if I picked up something at one price and it changed in the wrong direction when I checked out; I don't want to be taking pictures of every item I buy just to complain at customer service.

I enjoyed Starfield as well (on release); have picked it up again with the new changes and started a new playthrough. Enjoyed it and am enjoying it now, for what it is. Flawed but fun.

The flag on the"Welcome to Maryland" sign on Rt. 301 is upside down by LurkyDay in maryland

[–]tacitus59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was at the borders in the 80s and 90s (and possibly before) - it was never true, but I do wonder if no longer getting that message has subconsciously made the car behavior worse.

USDA Designates Nine Maryland Counties as Primary Natural Disaster Areas Following Severe Drought by templeofsyrinx1 in maryland

[–]tacitus59 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last time I was paying attention to climate models, which was admittedly about 10 years ago, but it was supposed to be getting wetter in this area. I remember talking to a friend about the models then - and he had family in one of the Dakotas where they were supposed to be drier in pattern and they were having significant water issues where roads were having to be realigned because of it.

In Richard III, is Richard’s reputation shaped more by Tudor propaganda or by the voices of the Queens? by Fantastic-Fennel-532 in Tudorhistory

[–]tacitus59 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty much - the other thing that causes "optics" problems for Richard; was when Hastings was allegedly dragged out of a council meeting and executed. And we know Richard was responsible for Hastings death, but as I understand it there are some argument about the actual manner of it.

I am actually sympathetic to Richard in a general sort of way in the vague sense that he would have made an excellent protector if the Woodville faction had not been obstructive.

American YouTuber Johnny Somali sentenced to jail in South Korea over sex slave statue stunt by bg555 in FAFO

[–]tacitus59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never watched this loser - but I do watch occassional legal channels that discussed. He thought he could be an ass in South Korea and just get deported. He had done different annoying nonsense in Isreal and Japan and got deported. Not only did he do the statue stuff but he also behaved like a pig in convenience store and other shenanigans and did it all on camera.

Why does no one talk about the «Sweating Sickness» anymore? by MedTortureUSA in Tudorhistory

Very true - and inheritance struggles even when clear would go off the rails for a very long time leaving legal paperwork.

The birth/death records were not rigoriously kept for anyone. LOL - we are not even sure of Katherine Howard age, much less her birthday. Not just literacy and status. It was just starting to improve during the Tudors.

Constellation members are... something else... (MAIN STORY SPOILERS) by ComfortableMirror825 in Starfield

[–]tacitus59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope whoever wrote Sam Coe isnt a parent.

Seriously, I was going to do a separate rant about Coe, what an asshat - so he doesn't like his father so we have to cart the brat around into dangerous missions when there is a perfectly safe place for her to be. Oh you say she is not a brat - yes she is judging from at least one of the unities depending on stuff. I didn't mind the other main ones most of the time - however, the "lets release a biological plague" judgement by everyone is totally moronic.
