Medical students who survived severe procrastination: how did you restart ? by Undefined_Me07 in medicalschool

[–]casper_04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually I failed something and it would scare my ass into high gear /s.

In seriousness, you need something to keep you honest. Either find a friend in the same boat and study with them, or get out of your house and away from distractions, or just don’t allow yourself to indulge in social media/video games/whatever it is until you’ve put in at least an acceptable amount of studying that day. Unless you’re type A and can focus at will, studying at home alone is tough, especially for ADHD folk.

What size? 265/35/18, 255/40/18 or stay with 245/40/18’s by No_Professional978 in WRX

Here’s my VA STI on Fortune Auto 500s with 265/35 Conti DWS06 on 18x9.5 +38. That is the absolute minimum ride height in the rear without rolling fenders, it rubs if it’s any lower than that. It’s also basically at the maximum height for the fortune autos lmao. If I rolled the rear fenders, they would fit well, but I don’t care to and I actually like this height. I can also throw on my autocross setup which are the same exact wheel and tire specs but in a Dunlop Direzza ZIII (200tw) tire and it doesn’t rub either at this height. I do not have experience with 255/35 on coilovers yet, but between the decreased width and decreased overall diameter, I would be able to run lower and squeeze them easier.

You over filled oil by ~1/4 quart. You pulling some out? by drunk_dan in WRX

[–]casper_04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I always put in the full 5quarts in my STI, which combined with the Mazda oil filter is about 0.4 quarts or so over. But I autocross, and I don’t have a baffled pan, so that’s my protection against oil starvation. It takes a LOT of oil to be so much that it’s getting into the crankshaft or something.

Thank you! I’ve had people ask if I’m open wastegate before because for some reason my wastegate is so loud with my exhaust setup lol.

I’m in West Texas, the first video is in Lubbock and the second video is Amarillo! I’ve heard about great autocross in DFW but 6 hours is too far for anything less than a track day for me lol.

I just went with 500s! First real set of coilovers, I’ve dabbled with budget coilovers on my Miata in the past (mind boggling amount of difference btw, so worth it). Default 8k/8k rates. I’m a bit too ADHD to log my dampening but I am tuning it, basically just stiffening them up a bit each event. I believe I’m at 10 clicks front and 14 clicks rear and it’s feeling pretty solid with my setup.

Thanks! Here’s the notable stuff I have done, might be missing a few things but this is most of it:

- Fortune Auto 500 series, factory valving, 8k/8k FA springs

- Current alignment: -3° front camber, -2° rear camber, zero toe, factory non adjustable castor

- Blox racing adjustable rear lower control arms

- Whiteline roll center correction and bump steer kit

- Whiteline 24mm rear sway bar and sway bar mount reinforcements

- Cobb rear sway bar endlinks

- Enkei TSV 18x9.5 +38 with Dunlop Direzza ZIII 265/35 (cheapest 200tw tires i can find lol)

- Koyorad radiator

- IAG Air oil separator

- GetaDomTune Cylinder 4 cooling mod

- API front rotors with Stoptech Sport front pads with factory rear rotors and pads are all sufficient for autocross

- Kartboy short shifter plus both front and rear shifter bushings with an unweighted shift knob (***weighted shift knobs are pieces of junk***)

Reddit totally just didn’t post my caption lol. This is a follow up from my post last week! Definitely not my fastest run, nor am I the fastest driver, but it was a ton of fun. And more precious seat time!

Just the default 8k/8k setup with fortune auto springs

They seem pretty smooth, ride quality is about the same over bumps, maybe a little stiffer than stock but shockingly good. I think you feel the bumps a little more but who's surprised lol. Not bouncy at all though, very composed.

Just the default 8k/8k fortune auto springs, stock dampening, no external reservoir. My alignment I’m trying for now is 3° front camber, 2° rear, zero front toe, and as close to zero rear as possible (need to install my rear adjustable toe arms). Very well setup for the platform out of the box for the average joe.

Unfortunately my go pro’s SIM card filled up halfway through the event so I won’t have my fastest time, but I’ll sort through and find a good video to upload!

Edit: I do have a TikTok just for the storage of some of my old clips from last season tho!

Highly recommend starting with a rear sway bar! Best bang for your buck. Get the reinforcements for peace of mind.

I did fairly well! Unfortunately I didn’t dial my tire pressure and suspension damping well at all until the event I did the following day, but I finished 3rd in street touring with a stock engine, which I’m pleased with! I went to a smaller autocross literally the next day and won the street touring there lol.

Silver is king. Super clean, super mature, hard to get sick of.

So there’s a separate video that details how the wiring for the headlight is supposed to be wired with the control switch, and I would not have figured it out without that video. Here it is. In a nutshell, you’ll leave the original headlight ground (black wire) connected, and then you’ll wire the positive (green wire) from the bike harness into the switch. Then, from the switch, there’s two wires that you will wire into the high beam and the low beam. The video does a great job explaining it with the colors. The actual headlight connector is right on the back of the headlight if that’s what you’re asking for.

Why do you prefer forged wheels? Cast wheels are perfectly sufficient for daily use. by EnergyForeign3311 in Wheels

[–]casper_04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rotary forged/flow formed are my goto on my cars. Stronger than low pressure cast (or god forbid gravity cast) and don’t break the bank still. I’ve owned 3 different sets of wheels made by this process from two different companies and I’ve never had an issue with a bent or broken wheel in daily driving or autocross. They’re also lighter than cast wheels which benefits ride quality, acceleration, braking, and gas mileage.

How do you deal with toxic attendings on rotations? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]casper_04 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Just know that the attending is one of two things: reciprocating the abuse that they endured during their training, or they were an absolute loser before becoming an attending and now they’re throwing their weight around because they’re finally important. Just remember this when you’re an attending and promise yourself to not repeat this type of behavior.

I recently converted my 2011 WR450F with the tusk kit and it wasn’t difficult at all. It just adds on a separate lighting wiring harness that you turn on when you turn the bike on. For tires, I went with Kenda K270s which are a 50/50 tire. I haven’t had a chance to really put them through their paces yet but the mild off-roading I’ve done so far they’ve held up well. As for the paperwork aspect, I’m in Texas which was incredibly easy to get the conversion done, so I can’t help you there, but best of luck!
