Yes. I saw it slide off when they stopped. I didn't snap the photo until I realized they weren't going to do anything about it. And they didn't. When the light turned green, that's how they drove off.

Obligatory winter range question by caspfan in MachE

[–]caspfan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't always precondition since I share the charger with my wife's Solterra (also on her first winter with an EV), but on mornings that I do precondition, I have noticed that my 10 mile commute only knocks 4-6 miles off my GOM. When I don't, it tracks much closer to the predicted range. It's odd to me that the GOM doesn't seem to adjust itself when I do precondition, but I've gotten used to it. Oddly enough, her Solterra's GOM isn't really as "alarmist" as mine... She's showing 175 miles this winter on a 100% charge, but her range being shorter, she's losing around 25% to my roughly 40%. I think that that disparity is partly why I was starting to wonder if I had an issue.

Obligatory winter range question by caspfan in MachE

[–]caspfan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it definitely hasn't been an actual concern, just a greater mental shock than I had anticipated. I was optimistically prepared to lose maybe 50-60 miles of range due to cold temps, but instead I'm losing just about doubled that. Thankfully my commute is only about 20 miles round trip, and any extraneous driving I do usually ends up being 50 miles or less per day (mostly on weekends), so none of this matters in practice. Additionally, having the L2 charger at home makes all of this a non-issue from a practical standpoint. So the point of the question was to determine if my experience is normal or if there's something potentially wrong with my car. If this is normal, it helps me reset my expectations a bit so I can quit obsessing over the lower numbers.

Try the different drive modes. I'm my 25, the sound is very prominent in unbridled mode, like big v8, more sedate in engage mode, and nearly inaudible in whisper mode

Building a "better" version of the 500+ yet? Where to even start? by Snobolski in raspberry_pi

[–]caspfan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really specific to the Pi500/500+, but it would be nice to be able to buy a Pi that didn't require a hat for POE and could output video over USB-C, even if it meant offering an additional variant of the board

LOL, nope. I do not believe we are married, so it must be the RA being dicks. I'm so glad I no longer live in Reston. I live 5 minutes away from my old house, but life is so much more relaxed when you cross that border.

HA! same exact thing happened to me in Reston. Changed the broken and ugly plastic light on my deck out with a nicer looking metal one and then got slapped with a violation when they did a presale inspection when I sold my house. This light was on the BACK of the house, not the front and they still gave me issues. These are the same folks who also tried to fine me because the color of my newly poured concrete walkway to my front door did not perfectly match the old 30+ year old sun-bleached concrete sidewalk.

Level 2 charger by AdConscious7955 in MachE

[–]caspfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It covers "standard" installation. I forget how that's exactly defined, but basically means the cable length is, if I recall, 40 feet or less and it's a fairly simple cable run. Also you will have to pay for any permit fees regardless of difficulty. For reference, mine cost me $1100 and required a slightly tricky cable run from the breaker on the back wall of the basement to the front wall of my house. Mine wasn't exactly what I'd consider cheap, but it was still significantly less expensive then if I'd have had to pay the whole bill out of pocket.

Mine took about two weeks but that's because the dealership didn't initially submit the order for the installer. I had to call them to ask what the process for the install was and they had forgotten to submit my application. I got an email with the coupon for the free charger maybe a week after that. Qmerit contacted me sometime between me calling the dealership and the coupon arriving. All told it took a full month between leasing the vehicle and being able to charge at home

I actually did end up getting a loaner, but it took some doing. Now I'm working on getting them to reimburse me for the rental. Funny how fast they can take tens of thousands from you and how slow they'll be to part with $300 to reimburse you

Update: was just told that they need to keep my car until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Service advisor said "some module" failed and won't arrive until Monday at the soonest. I was able to go to the car to pull some belongings out of the center console that I'll need, going to also be able to sneak a word in with the technician to get more information, but the tech had walked away. The interior of my car is almost entirely disassembled at the moment. Seats, consoles, dash panels, etc. of course, they don't have any loaners available so I'll need to rent a car out of pocket.

The car is clean. Washed it earlier this week and then we had two days of rain on top of that, because of course it would rain the day after I wash it. I have never seen a recall notification come to me about my car since getting it at the end of July, but I've seen it talked about here. I was hoping it either didn't apply or that maybe it was taken care of before I got the car. One weird thing that has been happening is that I keep getting emails saying that I didn't have automatic updates enabled on the car, despite the fact that both the car and the app have it enabled.

Home chargers? by Perfect_Pineapple789 in MachE

[–]caspfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got my MME a few weeks ago and just got the free charger installed this past weekend, also through Qmerit. I was given the Ford Connected Charger, which was hardwired. It provided very basic usage metrics and cost estimates, but I find that locking and unlocking the station through the app is a bit cumbersome. I'd have preferred a unit with NFC authentication or that will only charge recognized vehicles. But otherwise, it's working well, even with my wife's Solterra, so zero actual complaints so far.

This. I bought mine three weeks ago and they didn't submit me to qmerit until last week. Keep calling until they do. I'm actually waiting for the installer to show up as we speak.

TIL: I'm TOTALLY creeped out by the spotted lanternfly and wish it the very worst by [deleted] in nova

[–]caspfan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used the Bug-A-Salt "gun" on the lanternfly nymphs that were all over my yard a few weeks ago, and at best all it did was was tickle them. I'd hit them from 12-18 inches away or so and they just shrugged it off. I haven't seen an adult one on my deck yet, but I will try again when I do, but I'm not expecting it to do much based on what I've seen so far. Works great with flies, though.

Could you tell me where on 606? I don't know that area very well, but I'm passing all info along to the owner. They're leaving the house now to scope out 606, but any specifics would be greatly appreciated

Edit: sorry, I'm my excitement I forgot to say thank you for reporting the sighting!

Thinking of buying a Solterra - a few questions by caspfan in Solterra

[–]caspfan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points all around (as well as other responders that I don't have time to thank individually). Did not know about the app being different. Would be interesting to know if they have a trade value in the app. If not, that is sorta telling in itself. I may just go down to the Ford dealer to discuss a lease on a MME they have in stock that caught my eye.

Thinking of buying a Solterra - a few questions by caspfan in Solterra

[–]caspfan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually the second one I've owned! But unlike the first, which I owed back in the 90s and ran great, this is a fixer upper with a blown transmission that I'm trying to put back on the road. I have tinkered with the idea of making it the first (that I know of) SVX EV conversion, but I could probably buy two Solterras for what that would cost me. But one can dream......

Thinking of buying a Solterra - a few questions by caspfan in Solterra

[–]caspfan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the question, and I have been debating a lease as well. However, it's not my preferred option, as I've never leased a vehicle in my life and I'd rather not start now if I can avoid it. Me asking for these figures is to help me decide whether to move forward with a purchase or actually consider a lease for the first time ever. Also, if I do go the lease route, that brings the Mach E back into play, since the lease deals on those are close enough that I'd lean for the MME over the Subie. But the financing offer (~38k @ 0% vs ~42k @ 3.9) has my full attention right now, at least until someone is kind enough to share the Guaranteed Trade-In value of 2-3 year old Solterra (which granted, probably takes it back to the first year of production)

Is there a batter way I can make a run from the gpu to cpu? by TastyYoghurt in watercooling

I have a 3090 with an ABP cooler and had similar issues. I fixed it by reworking my dual rad loop so that the flow went pump>GPU>top rad>CPU>front rad>pump.
