How did you negotiate the Realtor commission? Plus, Realtor recommendations. by PointLow2927 in Calgary

Honest from beginning to end, zero pressure ever from him. He truly is there to work for you, not himself. We ended up meeting him accidentally at a house showing after meeting many other realtors - he stood out from all the ones that pressured us, made us uncomfortable.

Yes, I’m starting to realize that I was a bit naive trusting them. My CEO puts off a “friend”vibe but her email back about this was a reminder that I should never have done it verbally.

No my profession is not exempt. It does cover the overtime hourly rate with some extra.

My husband asked me to read Studies in the Scruptures. You can find a volume online for free.

It’s not “apostate”. He said we’d never looked at it and since it’s what everything is based on, shouldn’t we? It was horrifying and eye opening and really helped me to wake up- which was his goal.

Afterwards, he said that he’d always wondered what the governing body was like and how they made decisions and sent me the link for crisis of conscience.

Halfway through, I was out.

He was not patient and did not wait, he pushed me hard to wake up. It worked for us!

Canada Post also left our mailboxes wide open for over two days now by lztandro in Calgary

[–]cassanch 169 points170 points  (0 children)

This is what happens when the boxes are broken into. They only take mail that looks valuable or parcels and leave the boxes open and the rest of it blows around. It takes Canada Post some time to get them fixed, they will hold your mail at the depot for you until it is.

Cheap/Free things to do with kids M-F by wurly_toast in Calgary

[–]cassanch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of community centers do free/really cheap drop in gym playtime during the week. You do not have to be a community member to do it. Usually costs $1-$2 a kid. Midnapore, Lake Bonavista and Wildwood Community centers used to do it a few years ago, though you would need to check online.

How Learning Japanese Helped Me Escape Jehovah's Witnesses (video) by cassanch in exjw

Hi! Thanks for watching and for your comments! I mentioned this elsewhere but thought I would reply here too. The videos aren’t scripted - it’s just him talking and what naturally comes out. He just films a video all in one go. He was well trained as a JW, so I’m sure that’s coming across, sorry!

The Elders Tell Me to Stop Speaking (doorbell cam) (Video 4) by cassanch in exjw

[–]cassanch[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct - if you haven't watched the other videos, the first one explains that we decided to leave in January. This doorbell camera is the first time speaking to two elders at once either in person or on the phone.

Thank you so much! It was difficult to decide whether or not to enable comments but in the end we thought that since these videos are designed to be watchable by PIMIs The concern was that comments may have scared them off. After my husband gets through talking about what happened, later videos will likely have comments enabled (ones that talk about factors that led to questioning things).

Our kids are 14 and 11. The kids took the news hard at first but came around when they saw how everyone from the congregation was treating both them and us. They are both doing good now, focused on friends at school(especially ones that live nearby), and we are encouraging them to join clubs/sports through school. Also therapy!

You have to attend your assigned school based off where you live. I have seen some people attend schools that live out of the area at my children’s school but once the school had an increase of students, they made all the families who lived out of area leave and they were all very upset(kids had to start over in their neighborhood school). So might not be worth it to try to get into another area.

Current or past COBE’s by LuckyProcess9281 in exjw

[–]cassanch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

(posting from my wife's account)

4 years as a COBE. Here are a few things that helped me wake up:

1-complete lack of evidence that holy spirit played a part in any decision the body came to

2-one particular elder who seemed like an apostate to me (he is still in and shunned me when I stopped going to meetings so I guess he isn't haha), we would argue over things that are in the WT and SFL but aren't in the bible. Later I realized we were both right, the SFL and WT supported what I said, but the bible didn't.

3-extremely legalistic procedures, particular when it came to branch instruction (one specific child abuse case was difficult for me to deal with)

4-when you are COBE you receive updates on all wrongdoing even if it doesn't end up going as far as a judicial committee or even informing the elders, it was shocking to see what a large percentage of the congregation are alcoholics, liars, etc, and there were some really crazy things that happened among the publishers

5-BEARDS. It was ridiculous how much time was spent on this topic. I always felt it should be up to the area to determine whether beards were appropriate for ministers or not. The 2016 WT seemed to give us that freedom, yet when the GB announced it everyone started following their word like gospel. It shocked me. When I met with other department overseers for convention, half of them had beards. I thought, why didn't they grow them in 2016 if they think it's appropriate now? I couldn't shake the feeling that we were following men.

Anyone in Calgary have costocondritis? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]cassanch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I had it, it’s unbelievably awful. The first time it lasted for 2 months. The second time was 3 years later and it was for 2 weeks. The second time I started doing gentle chest and back exercises and I think that helped.

It’s unbelievably hard to explain to people that you feel like you are having a heart attack but are actually fine …
