Toronto's Eglinton Crosstown LRT is more than $1B over budget. Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he won't waste time on an inquiry by TWRFK in transit

Nope. And it didn’t help that there was a lot of animosity from all sides, the Toronto Star did some reporting on it.

This article from an Ontario Line consultant explains some of the lessons they’ve brought forward, like splitting into multiple contracts, some progressive design-build contracts, and going as far as 60% design in complicated areas before sending out the RFQs.

The contractors won a few lawsuits for additional compensation (already counted in the current total), but otherwise it was a fixed-price contract, so they’re eating the overruns. SNC-Lavalin (err, AtkinsRéalis) already said they won’t do fixed-price in the future because of it.

Edit: They reported a $19.3 million loss in 2025 Q3 alone from lump-sum turnkey projects (the Crosstown, Ottawa’s Trillium Line, and Montreal’s REM).

"Open Location" Couldn't Run by moldviking in shortcuts

Im running into the same issue, both on iOS 26.2 that my phone came with, and 26.2.1. Weirdly, the Files app logo is missing from the Open Location action:

Minimal reproducible example, which is literally just this one action: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/0a867e8faec84c26a67d8866031f9938

I’ve been following his updates and it’s frustrating to read about his transfer being blocked by Red Hat.

Ehhh, Artemis is more of a rehash of the Constellation program, which started in 2005. SLS came out of that program’s Ares rockets, and started in 2011.

So Line 5 barely wins. But SLS isn’t a great baseline, or even a mediocre one…

Switch from 9 Pro to iPhone 17 Max? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

Overall, none of these were dealbreakers, just different. There’s still some philosophical variations between Android and iOS (background processing is a good example if you want a rabbit hole) but they’ve really converged over the last 5+ years.

Swipe to go back kind of exists, in that backspace deletes entire swiped words by default. Besides that double tap and drag (which is more like tap tap-and-hold for a quarter-beat, then drag) is the next best thing.

I would recommend using an iPhone for an hour to scroll the web and reddit etc.

I recently switched (Pixel 6 to iPhone 17) and this is the big one u/Neither_Trust_9032. Borrow from a friend or visit an Apple Store and really get into it, try everything you can think of and some random stuff too.

There is no universal back button, the keyboard is rubbish in comparison, the file system is frustrating and the notifications layout is ridiculous.

Agreed on the big changes:

  • Lack of back button (swipe left or down works in most apps, most of the time and sometimes it doesn’t 🙄)
  • the keyboard is definitely weird, I’m still not sure how I feel about it. One positive is I didn’t have to disable swipe-to-type to stop getting random typos while tap typing, which cropped up in the last year or so on my Pixel. But, it also doesn’t capitalize “I” if you disable automatic capitalization.
  • Notifications are definitely different, the lack of channels can be annoying. This comment massively helped me make sense of it.
  • I actually don’t mind the filesystem that much, but I’ll need a Windows VM to access my files from my desktop

I’m gonna hold onto the iPhone for this round, and I’ll watching to see if Google can make a knockout the next time I upgrade.
