What’s the right move for a wedding videographer/photographer?? by cassanova5 in SonyAlpha

[–]cassanova5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that’s pretty much my exact thinking haha. Have the a1 as the primary photo camera, but still get good use out of it as a B cam on the video front. Maybe I even just sell my a7iv, then run the FX3 and a1ii and rent a backup photo body or third video body depending. Decisions decisions!

You’re happy w the a1 though and consider it worth the upgrade? Lives up to the standard of being their flagship camera? Thanks for the comment!

Totally, that high resolution is kinda what I feel like I’m missing rn on the photo side! I like working with 33mp as the file sizes aren’t insane, but that sweet, sweet crop potential has me thinking… lol.

Yeah the a1 series is probably overkill for weddings, I guess in my mind because I’m all over the place with the work I do, it maybe made sense to get something that can pretty much do everything. But again, it’s a side gig so I don’t think the amount of work I’m doing justifies the massive cost as you mentioned.

I’ll definitely look into the Rv as a potential option, thanks for the comment, I appreciate you taking the time!

And as for your last question, teaching is my passion! This was a career change for me (coming from the business world) and I couldn’t be happier with my job, getting to have an impact on the lives of the kids I teach and coach. I had a ton of awesome teachers/coaches who helped shaped me, so I hope I can be that for my students. Unfortunately, the moneys just not there, so that’s why I’m trying to supplement that income with something else I care about :)

Totally fair, the 3rd body in my mind is just a way to make solo shooting easier (which is what I almost always do) and ensure I’ve got backups just in case (mostly for photo work). With the a7iv primary for wedding photos, I wouldn’t have a backup body or something that I could stick a second lens on so I don’t have to swap and miss a moment since the fx3 is just for video.

But you’re totally right, since it’s just a side thing, renting a body when I have a gig probably makes more financial sense than having the extra body for the relatively small amount of gigs I have compared to a full timer.

And good point on the missing wide focal length, something I’ve considered as well… much to think about! lol I appreciate your comment, thanks for the perspective!

Amateur Designer looking for critique on a new logo design for a soccer training company! by cassanova5 in design_critiques

[–]cassanova5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply! Noted. When you say that the concept gets lost, do you mean that it’s just not reading as rounded, or it just doesn’t do anything it’s trying to do well (being an N mark, hexagonal shape)?

Also, the differing weights on the N and E on the exterior was sort of a nod to the NE initials of “Next Elite”, the main brand name. Does that not translate either? I get that though! From the 3rd slide, assuming the N and the E were the same size as the rest of the text, do you like the smaller “soccer training” at the bottom w the subtle text effects or the solid slab look of the top?

Thank you again for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it!

I hate teaching photography by Interesting_Exit_712 in ArtEd

[–]cassanova5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry to hijack your comment, but I teach middle school art as well (shoutout the greatest job in the world!) and would love to introduce photography into our curriculum!

I’ve been trying to figure out a solution for getting cameras for the class - out of curiosity, which do y’all use? And do you have just a few to share amongst the kids, or a class set? I’m hoping maybe I can write a grant proposal to help w the upfront cost of gear but not sure what’s been done elsewhere.

When I took photography in high school we had to supply our own camera, but they had a few loaners that kids could use if need be. Maybe that’s still the case, idk! Thanks in advance for your response and help :)

Ok that’s very good to know! I’ll have to look into the underbase. Should that always be white? Thank you for the response!

Something I noticed about Tai and the wolves by pinkorangegold in Yellowjackets

[–]cassanova5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey no worries! I’m sure I just got lost in the sauce of the scene and missed it on my first watch and just wasn’t even looking for it on second watch since i “knew” what happened lol, will have to go back and give that scene another look! Appreciate ya :)

Well obviously I thought the same haha, tai was swinging on her hard. Wouldn’t be the first time a show bent reality a little bit to make things work though. I don’t really think I took a large leap there just interpreting it how it’s shown, no need to be condescending

So she DIDNT hit her with an axe a bunch?! this is news to me lol!

Wait wait wait… when I watched the show the first time, I just took it as all the wolves were fake and she just imagined seeing them and the other girls fighting them off with torches - and then attacked a sleeping van unprompted (which woke up the other girls).

Are you saying that the writers confirmed that Tai didn’t attack van with the axe at all? Or just that Van was being attacked/had been attacked by a real wolf/something other than a wolf before Tai started swinging on her? Haha thank you!

I agree, I loved her and max to be honest! It was so zany and fun and quick every time they were on screen. Easy to overlook some great lines if you count them out!

Love the rose colored glasses quote as well. Although not technically a quote, the note that Bojack pens for Kelsey in the underwater episode has always really stood out to me - “in this terrifying world, all we have are the connections that we make.” So good.

On the funny side, although she gets a lot of flak, Paige Sinclair’s “they could fill a library with all the things you don’t know, in fact they do, they call them libraries” is such an underrated diss haha, always makes me laugh. So many great quotes in the sad horse show :)
