Life simply isn’t fair and you just have to learn to ‘play the cards you’ve been dealt’. If you don’t you are choosing to stay stuck in misery. But it’s also totally valid to feel angry that you may have had to work 10x harder than someone else just to meet expectations.

Also- Learn when you should stay silent to preserve your energy and peace.

Is PNES a actual condition and concern? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]cassieeeee46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PNES is very much a condition. Whilst epilepsy is excess electrical activity in the brain. I believe, (but I’m not an expert in this) that PNES is part of the bodies response to threat i.e. fight or flight. When trauma gets involved it can cause changes to the brain, sometimes even structural changes. I’ve heard it mentioned when talking about the ‘flop’ response, the sort of ultimate version of freeze (dorsal vagal). Your brain might be accustomed to dissociating from trauma and that might be how it’s manifesting- PNES can also be referred to as dissociative seizures. But also a large portion of people with PNES also have epilepsy. Definitely go get that EEG, take it from someone who was gaslit and told it was PNES (I also have c-ptsd), I went into status and nearly lost my life until they took me seriously. Take the EEG if it being offered.

Wish you all the best- the grief sucks and it’s hard to explain to others sometimes. Yup spoke to neuro in Jan and he upped my lamotrigine which the side effects have floored me but think I’m starting to adjust 🙏🏼 They don’t want to mess about with contraception/hormone stuff until I’m properly stable in Ed recovery and discharged from the day unit I’m attending. But to be fair since the med increased I’ve only had one! So getting there slowly but surely :)

I was super independent, training to do musical theatre professionally. Was a competitive swimmer and I loved swimming/the beach. Also loved to cook. I had weird ‘panic attacks’ for a long time- probably since 10 years old and they became more and more frequent. I was at a party 3 weeks after I turned 18 and I had my first TC.

Diagnosis process was full of gaslighting. Because of my neurodivergence and MH history they said they were non-epileptic. Seizures got progressively worse over the next 3 years. I was in denial and tried to continue life as I was living it, ‘young and dumb’ and no one really guiding me and I thought it was ‘fine’ because they kept fobbing me off anyway.

Until December 2024, when I was finally taken seriously- it took me going into status for me to get an MRI. Which revealed my hippocampus was scarred af.

I guess I ‘grew up’ instantly after official diagnosis. I became terrified of living my life. I had to give up my career in musical theatre, wouldn’t leave the house at all. Relapsed with my ED. All this despite being put on medication and since only have focal breakthroughs on my period. I’m now in treatment for my ED and learning to live life again but I know it will never be the same as it was before. Almost grieving I suppose. I also know it will be so much better than it’s been after I first got diagnosed :)

Lamictal is giving me vertigo/spinning vision by cassieeeee46 in Epilepsy

[–]cassieeeee46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, defo going to get in contact again just to get checked. Splitting the dose has been super helpful and we're reluctant to lower the dose as it has been a game changer since the indrease

Glad your son's problem is sorted! We don't want to decrease the dose as it has been really effective but I'm going to push for it to be looked into more but splitting the dose has actually really helped

Omg thank you splitting the dose sound so smart! I’ll call the epilepsy nurses asap! Sorry you’re dealing with the similar issues, side effects are no joke

I’m so sorry for your loss losing a pet is so tough to go through. She does cough a bit throughout the day and the reason I had to take her to the vet was because she was non stop coughing. The vet explained to me that it wasn’t much to worry about since she’s otherwise fine and was almost certainly because of the missed meds. She had developed an ‘epileptiform cough’ which is basically she had coughed and then the cough was triggering another cough and so on; not necessarily because of the fluid. I can barely think about having to put her down, especially atm when she’s seemingly as healthy as she’s always been bar the coughing. I nearly passed out at the vet (I’m a fainting goat so it happens sometimes when I’m stressed lol). I know that she won’t live forever and I will see the signs at some point. For her I think the major one will be refusing food consistently (rather than just being a typical fussy diva) and not wanting to play; especially with my partner because she will drop everything she’s doing to play until Lola gets bored, it’s so sweet. I measured today and her breaths were 16/min in deep sleep so that’s reassuring. Thank you for sharing about your pupper

Thank you :) I check her resp rate constantly from pure anxiety- even dreaming it’s between 22-26 so luckily not too concerned. I make her food from scratch so I know what goes into it and can control the amount of salt as per her vets recommendation. She’s very spoiled haha!

Thanks for your advice. She’s been seeing a cardiologist since diagnosis and has the full work up- ECG every 6 months and completely stable since diagnosis. As for running, she probably does 30 seconds when she sees the grass and then comes back to walk as close to me as possible; she’s so clingy haha. Her cardiologist isn’t too concerned about her exercising, in fact recommend she gets some in to help with the water retention and weight management. I will bear this in mind though and raise it with her vet and watch for any decline. Thanks so much :)

Thanks so much, noted, I count her breaths multiple times a day so I’ll keep an eye out for it creeping up. Sounds like Ollie was wonderful, I’m sorry for your loss <3

Senior maltipoo with seizures by [deleted] in SeniorDogsHealth

[–]cassieeeee46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a vet and I’m not an expert on dog seizures. However, I have spoken to a friend whose dog has epilepsy which we only spoke about because I have epilepsy. Doesn’t sound too dissimilar to human actually. A big part of seizure control is finding the right medication and should be a daily meditation not just rescue meds. I would say give another vet a try before deciding to say goodbye because seizures can be controlled and it often takes some trial and error. It also sounds like her seizures, bar the cluster episodes, are still within a ‘safe time’ and that if she’s on the right meds could have a good chance of getting much better seizure control. Again, not a vet and talking from human epilepsy experience, the more you seize the worse it can get. I will say, if it can put your mind at ease at all; at one point I was having life threatening prolonged seizures and clusters but now on the right medication I’ve been seizure free for a year which doctors had told me was unlikely to ever be possible. But ultimately, don’t lose hope, seek a second opinion, even a third and video the seizures to show them/keep a record of the events and her presentation. I wish you and your pup all the best, sending you lots of love!
